Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

ive been playing the games, and i have grown fond of the gamepad that it has replaced normal gaming gamepads for me entirely.

I couldn't decide between pikmin and Deus X, so I went with gafs, why not both?

After 1 month I got myself some fun ass games, before getting the Wiiu, I hadn't touch my consoles in months aside from big releases, and even then I couldn't finish em. Off TV play is a godsend, What am I missing GAF? I just ordered Zombie U, so I think I'm good for a bit

... no seriously. Jump'n'Run is a term (seemingly) exclusively used in Germany to describe what is called a platformer in the English speaking rest of the world (=internet). Maybe other European countries use the term too? I don't know.

Same thing with "Ego Shooter" - it uses two English words but English speakers don't use this term. Another example is the terribly stupid word "Handy" being used for cellphone. It's especially funny when Germans think this is the actual English word for the thing native speakers are just like "WTF?"

*mind blown*

I Did know about the handy thing, but Not about the other two. How do you call the Shooter Genre than BTW.?
Aaah, damn the stupid Auto-Correct thing...

I would also like to mention that after I got Super Mario 3D world I also decided to buy a Wii U game pro controller. I did this because I really don't like playing with the Wii motes (which I have several of), my daughter plays with the gamepad and she wants me to join her in the game... So I got a new shiny black Wii U pro controller..

I must say, I really do like this controller. It fits in my hands well, it holds its charge long, no batteries to constantly replace (like xbox) and its not expensive...

I am happy with my purchase :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I mostly game on my PC these days, but I just wanted to play some friggin Mario. I broke in my Wii U last night, and I'm really happy with it

Me three.

I'm telling you guys. This is a sales trend. A demographic of gamers who reject 'next gen' consoles because they get all of that and more on their PCs, but they also want to play some flippin' Nintendo.

It's not just that guy, and you, and Me. There are a lot of people taking this route.

I always thought it's used by english users too. :lol

Platformer sounds strange in German (but I use it sometimes on the internet).

Get lego city

It's laughably cliche at this point but gamers in the internet age tend to overanalyze and be hyper critical. I'm an older guy with kids and really sometimes you just need to chillax and just play some goddamn videogames.

Queue the whole "PLAY. THE. GAMES." meme.

Yes, it sure is cliche and everyone laughs at this and with the recent Resolutiongate, some of this technical aspects do matter to some people.
But when you finally sit down to play great games you just forget about all that shit.

About the controllers I love options so I have Wii U Pro controller and 4 wiimotes+, you never know. I like how Nintendo did not limit any options. I like to relax with off tv play just on the gamepad, Gamepad + Wii U Pro and we even have the option to play Gamepad + Wiimote+nunchuk

+1 more right here I have a gaming pc I also am not liking the next gen consoles, but have picked up a wii u for nintendo.

I would get Nintendoland, lego cities and Rayman next. Good hawl!

Kind of weird how positive and active the thread is, but also really heartwarming - especially since the GAF U family seems to be growing these days :)

sell Lost World and get LEGO CITY, thank me later!

So much this. I bought a Wii U for MH3U and put a ton of time into it and then didn't touch it for a few months. Last night I put in a copy of New Super Luigi U that I picked up for $15 and had a blast. What a fun, challenging, mario platformer. I don't even like the NSMB series, but this game is something else entirely. Highly recommend it. Looking forward to spending more time with my Wii U in the coming year with Smash, Mario Kart, Bayonetta, Donkey Kong, X, etc. The Wii u is going to be THE PLACE for good exclusive games next year.

I don't have a gaming PC yet but will get one soon. Paywalls and PC digital pricing really killing for me the next gen consoles. Maybe 3-4 years down the road if they are worth it I might consider a purchase for SP as I hate paywalls and no BC.

When you think about the Wii U library + Wii library you can't go wrong.

So how was RE4 Wii edition? Worth getting?

Amazing game, played it to the end on the Wii. Just please know that it looks like ass on an HDTV. I played it on a CRT TV, maybe it does not look that bad on the gamepad.

****shhh, I am hiding here from all the Doom threads, warm and fuzzy in here****

Pointer controls were amazing, but they made the game so much easier to breeze through. Some, including myself, would say it's the definitive version of the game.

I highly recommend checking it out. Don't expect it to look pretty :p

Haven't you noticed how everyone is talking about FPS (First Person Shooters) all the time? ;)

Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Resident Evil Revelations (unless you played it on 3DS?) and maybe both of the Batman games if you like punching dudes in the face while saying "I'm Batman!" all the time ;D. Oh yea and Lego City Undercover unless you know you hate the Lego gameplay style. Can't personally vouch for Rayman but others like it and there's a demo so go for that! Nintendo Land* is a must is you ever plan on having friends over or play with your family. It also offers a good solo challenge in the vein of classic arcade/early NES games (plus it's cheap these days).

*Fireworks sold separately

edit: and I hope you got Toki Tori 2+ off the eShop!

This is the one thread that made it :D

Yeah sure, but I really thought those two are pretty much interchangeable and the only reason why FPS is more popular on GAF/internet message boards would be the easier abbreviation lol ^^

oh of course haha

And like others, I got a Wii U because I have a gaming PC for any of the "major" third party titles. I plan to own a PS4/Xbone eventually but right now, I don't see a need. Also, I didn't have a Wii last gen so there is a whole library of games I want to check out.

Let me guess... the "many" that don't actually own a Wii U, and therefore aren't aware of how great it is to have the gamepad?
Before using it myself, I suspected it would be cumbersome and pointless. I bought one blindly about a month ago. My doubts we're gone after two days of NintendoLand.

There are plenty hidden gems in the Wii library. If you're into fighters, check out Tatsunoko vs Capcom. One of the best fighters I've played last gen. I'd even say it's better than MvC 3.

I helped throw tourneys for that game years ago. While I myself never really cared for it, I did enjoy watching it.

And a lot of fighters are better than MvC3 :P

You know, i think Nintendo has a very good lineup for the Wii U, a lot of people may critizise them for games like 3D World instead of Galaxy or funding Bayonetta 2 , but it has probably the best first party exclusives next gen.

The problem is that their current hardware strategy is a disaster, its very difficult for any company to justify 300 dollars on the system, and the Wii U seems to me as a machine with very limited appeal, a controller that is barely advertised as a selling point, a price that is too high for kids and families, hardware that is not very capable compared to the competition etc. The Wii U is a very flawed product, and its never going to sell to the masses, but maybe for a small audience that gives it a chance, they could find a lot to like on the gamepad and some great games to play.

Beneath all the problems, there are some good ideas on that little system.

Yeah, I had been thinking about getting a cheap, refurbished Wii just so I could play Mario Galaxy, Zelda games, Xenoblade, all the good games I missed out on. Then I started researching if Wii U was backwards compatible, and things just kinda snowballed from there

Well what you COULD do as an alternative/addition is still buy a refurbed older model Wii and use it as a Gamecube.

Unless of course you already own a Gamecube.

I really don´t want to derail this awesome thread but i want to answer this: This is the one thing that i really don´t understand with the media and the Wii U. Why the constant demand to "justify" a controller? Does the PS4 need to justify the touchpad? Does the one need to justify kinect? I feel the treatment for nintendo is not fair for this one. It´s a damn controller with a screen. It´s justified, if you really need it to be, by the whole system. The OS is build around it. Miiverse, which is always forgotten, would be impossible without the pad, the browser kicks ass because of the pad. It´s justified whithout even touching a game. For the games: The usage in ZombiU is awesome. Pikmin was awesome. Asymetrical multiplayer is awesome. Off-TV play is awesome. And yes, sometimes it´s just a map. You know what? It´s an awesome map. Why does this not count?

/rant.

Personally, I agree. However, I think the gaming world at large would be more receptive towards a Wii U if it showed a compelling usage that's novel and essential to the gameplay experience. The reason I posed this is because I think it would contribute to aiding the Wii U in terms of sales, and I want to see it do well so more developers decide it's a platform to develop on.

But you guys have convinced me that picking up Zombii U needs to be on my to-do list. I really doubt I can play it solo as I was nearly done after just the demo, but I'll give it another shot. Also, I have played NintendoLand and it was great to play, until I got Pikmin 3 which just took all of my, and my friend's, time on the Wii U.

I'd like to think this is happening as well, but we'll see when sales numbers start showing up after the holiday season. UK and Japanese numbers aren't encouraging thus far, but things could very well improve.

Now the part I most fear system update.

2/3mps internet user. :/

If you have 3D World there is a big update on the disc...it's much faster than downloading it (took me 15 minutes max), if you update via the 3D World disc then there is a much smaller update available after that took me roughly 5 minutes.

^yes skip the network configuration and stick in 3d world. then set up network after.

I guess I should have bought it physically. I plan on downloading it. Its alright though I'm almost half way there. :P

Just snagged the Wind Waker HD Edition Wii U, Super Mario 3D world and a Pro controller.

Joining the WiiOne (?) Club!? lol..

I've approached the final Operation on Wonderful 101. The game delivers satisfaction from learning to play on a level close to the Souls games. Easy GOTY material right here for me. The game is simply astounding and has made me a new fan and firm believer in Kamiya and all things Platinum.

I decided to borrow my friend's WiiU again so I can replay Mario 3D World

but oh wowow

>go to eShop
>hear the cheery Christmas tune

It's the small little details Nintendo does right.
