Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

So uh kind of a stupid question but how do you upgrade your resource gathering items? I turned my stone pickaxe into a copper one at the anvil no sweat but I'm not given the option to do this with any of the other tools. Am I bugged or just missing something really obvious?

Any one that gotten as far as to kill the first bossand gotten the soldier tier armor? I though that once I got that. More armor upgrade would unlock. But so far I've gotten nothing, don't really know what to do from here on.

Gear up to that, and then kill the second boss?

I found a Tech, but I can't figure out how to equip it. Anyone know?
Edit: Never mind, the UI doesn't work well but clicking it, then lock in, does it.

If there are a bunch of people present for the boss kill, do they all unlock the next tier or does it only work for one person at a time? (Do they need to craft the beacon first?)

Didn't play Terraria (although I bought it when it was super cheap once), but I'm absolutely loving this. And this is just phase 1 beta, it can only get better from here.

The quest is bound to crafting the beacon. The tier progression is bound to an item craftable at a station using the boss's 100% drop.

Since several updates have apparently hit since the server went up last night, server will go through maintenance later, maybe for about half an hour, so I can let the updates actually kick in.

I'm guessing maybe 8pm/9pm EST.

BTW, looking through the Starbound launcher, it had an ad there for private servers that can be rented out. My computer seems to be running ok, but if bandwith becomes an issue, I might consider shelling out some cash for one of those servers.

I wonder how much a small server would run. I'm half tempted to start one just for my immediate friends but if it's cost prohibitive I'll just do normal jump in multiplayer like we did in Terraria.

Yup, it freezed when I left 10 mins ago.
Also I was lagging more and more through the day.
Stop digging so much caves/going on thousand planets, haha.

According to the Starbound forums, there's supposedly a memory leak, which is another reason I'm doing maintenance later.

Yeah, I had to log out as I was in a HUGE cavern (seriously, this thing was massive, I still haven't found the bottom) and couldn't place any bricks or torches to light my way. Wood scarcity is a huge problem on the GAF starting planet as well.

Anyone that have killed the second boss? I can't figure out how to activate it. I keep getting the message that I should take it to the planet surface before powering it up. But I am ON the planet surface ...

How did you guys beat the first boss? I'm fully decked out in silver gear but haven't had much success.

Spend around 15-20 minutes kiting it left around the planet on the starter planet :|

What bosses are you guys talking about? I didn't encounter a boss on my starting planet. At least, I don't remember one.

Lets share useful or interesting coordinates!

So once you beat the first boss and head to Sector B, you should start being able to find dungeons on planet surfaces.

Here's a level 11 arid planet that has a fairly straightforward Avian temple dungeon. After porting to the surface, head left for about five minutes or so to find the entrance. You won't miss it.

Good starting dungeon for folks freshly into the second tier. Most of the mobs inside just walk towards you fairly slowly so it shouldn't be difficult to kill them. They drop plenty of level 12-15 weapons. This should help you gear up for further dungeons runs on higher level planets at this point.

Buyer gets his copy added to his library and then gets 3 gifts to send. We pay the guy who host the pack via paypal.

Ahh man I was hoping that four people on Steam could just split the price through their store. My paypal hasn't been used in a long time.

Hmm whether or not to try this before tonight's patch makes it impossible...

Sorry...I had to do it :p

You can just connect your credit card to paypal and make a regular payment without adding funds to your account. That's how I've always done it.

I'm having ridiculous amounts of trouble finding Iron. I just landed on a level 3 forest planet...so fingers crossed.

I see screenshots with everyone having insane weapons & armour...and I'm still stuck with Copper stuff = /.

So, if people need anything, you're pretty much gonna have to PM me because the thread is moving too fast and I'm too busy playing. I made a nice little house and explored a few planets looking for trouble. Screenshots... eventually.

This game has taken too many GW2 GAFGuild officers away from GW2...I therefore do not like this game.

I'm on our Mumble if you need me!

Gaf Server's Home Planet has no wood on it, people aren't gonna get very far if they make a new character on it.

We may have to take desperate measures; grab a couple people, find a nice jungle planet and strip it bare. Import that shit.

Much better

So so so so SOOOOO much better.

It grows back over time or something, there is TONS of it on the GAF server.

Man, Starbound, Darkout, and Steam World Dig all out within a day. This is genre explosion. The great thing is that it will only get better. I look forward to the day we get a Castlevania SOTN teir quality gem that defines this playstyle forever.
