Joel McHale hosting VGX (with Geoff)

Pretty good choice.

Is this thing going to be good for once? I feel like every year it's terrible, then Geoff goes on to publicly saying "We take this feedback with us to next year" and then it's terrible again.

the most prominent memory i have of joel mchale and video game event hosting involves that ubisoft laser tag thing so hopefully this ends up being a bit better

Dude is great on The Soup and Community, and he did the best he could with the trainwreck Ubisoft conferences he hosted. Should be a good show

I think that's Aisha Tyler.

Joel did the two years where Ubisoft had like zero shit together. The year James Cameron talked about his movie for an eternity and then didnt show the game, and the year they had Laser Tag

To give him (perhaps undue) credit, it's never as terrible.

For the target audience, that seems about right.

I really like Joel McHale so I'm happy with the choice however I really don't understand why they would wait to the day before the show for confirming who the host is? Sounds fishy.

Oh boy, hope Geoff knows what he's getting into. The show better be put together decently, otherwise Joel WILL go off teleprompter and start roasting the show. Loved that Ubisoft press conference.

Is this an awards show still?

It really doesnt seem to be getting much hype this year.

You missed the threads where games that weren't out already had nominations for GOTY. The award show part of this will be a fucking joke. This is a very real attempt at an e3-esque hype train for next summer.

Can't wait for all those pop culture references to go over my head like his E3 presentation or whenever it was he presented last...

That's a really awesome choice. I love the guy.

I'm excited for this now.

I know it'll still be the worst games that win, and the announcements will disappoint, but hey I might get something not completely cringe worthy.

never forget the tea bagging

It's who they could get because someone dropped out at the last minute?

The fact they're confirming this the day before the event really says a ton about how seriously they're handling the actual "awards show" part of the event this year.

Last year's show wasn't completely awful, which was a step in the right direction. This year they added a X which is so, so dumb... but Joel McHale? Maybe not completely awful is in the cards again this year!!
