He probably has personal connections to a lot of these developers and he needs to stay in good graces to secure all these first reveals. I wouldn't expect anything other than effusive praise.
I will preface this by saying this years show was easily the best he's produced and I actually enjoyed it this year BUT, in saying that, I'd much prefer E3. Give me a 1 hour show for each of the big 3 and they drop massive bombs at each of their shows. Don't really need musical numbers or "funny" interludes with Miss Piggy. And I could care less about awards to these dumb fuck people. I just want to see game reveals which is ALL I watch these things for.
It's funny how this presentation is supposed to be an awards show but E3 had a much bigger sense of rivalry and competition. With E3 you really felt like these companies were sweating up there trying to outdo their competition or at least not look like they didn't know what they're doing. With Geoff's show everybody who pays wins.
