Weltall Zero said:That's funny, because Spelunky is one of the games that respects your time most. In a world of cutscenes, QTEs, "press forward" gameplay and general mindlessness, it's hard to find a game that gets to the point faster than it; from stage one you're engaged and focused or you die.
I've rarely felt that I died in Spelunky to something that wasn't my fault in some way. Which is more than I can say of a lot of games, in fact.![]()
Don't kill an orange frog near a shopkeeper. True, it can be killed by a tiki trap and rebounded to the shopkeeper, but this is quite rare. Also, angering shopkeepers is by no means a death sentence, least of all in the jungle where they tend to get killed by tiki traps themselves.
There is no such thing as "game's length" in a roguelike. The very point of Spelunky is to learn about Spelunky; each and every death is a lesson learned. You learn not to throw stuff where it might rebound and hit you. You learn to detonate crates from a safe distance. You learn to spring tiki traps before climbing to them. There's a staggering amount of things to learn, from what each enemy drops to how to kill them efficiently. Roguelikes focus on learning the ins and outs of their systems and interactions, becoming better at the game (leveling yourself rather than your avatar).

Guacamelee and Wipeout are awesome. Lumines is lumines, which is great. Still need to check out Gravity Rush and Uncharted.
I just bought Virtue's Last Reward without even having the console. Hopefully they'll release the 2000 here soon so I can actually play it.
That's many important games, no wonder the Vita TV is not doing well...
So my backlog between Vita, WiiU and PC is fucking ridiculous as is but I'm looking at getting some more Vita games.
Currently have:
Tearaway
Killzone Mercenary
Jak and Daxter Collection
Sly 4
Stealth.Inc
Persona 4 Golden
LBP
Guacamelee!
Hotline Miami
Spelunky
Uncharted (PS+)
Munch's Odysee (PS+)
Sonic & All Stars (PS+)
I was looking at getting Dragons Crown and Soul Sacrifice and maybe wipeout 2048 (how is this game btw? I'm not normally into racers but Ive been craving one lately) Anything else worth looking into at the moment? I should mention I already own Rayman Legends on WiiU and Origins on PC.
Thanks
Picked up Rayman Legends, loving these discounts!
Looking forward to playing all this stuff once I get a new Vita. Been reading impressions and if I'll be able to get a refund rather than a replacement for my OG Vita, I'm going for the 2K model. I'll get the 64GB memory card from Nippon Yasan as well while I'm at it.
$17 for Terraria would be crazy. It's 10 on Steam, which is what I'd be willing to pay for it on Vita, but definitely not more.
Choices choices. What to play next Tearaway or Killzone?
Wipeout is amazing. I'm not very good at it, but it's incredibly fun. You should still consider Rayman on Vita, it's awesome to have portable Rayman. You can also get the first two games on PSN. SCEE cares... Tearaway ads, general ads (saw one with Tearaway/LEGO Marvel/Invizimals) plus *NEW* games like Killzone, Tearaway, Invizimals, PS Vita Pets... plus they're going to do a huge push of PS4/Vita bundle. Oh, and the memory card/game bundles are a marketing tactic as well. And better hardware bundles.Of the top 10 best vita sellers, only 2 aren't compatible (Hatsune Miku and Minna no Golf). Of course, Sony should push harder the compatibility list for those games that could be compatible, but many of those games are SCEA and SCEE, and you know how they care about the vita.
I think there's more replay value in Tearaway's single player than there is LBP Vita. In terms of, "I really want to experience this again" and not "I need to get this and that for trophies/100% completion". LBP Vita has more overall, because there's user levels to play. But Tearaway is more enjoyable than LBP, and I'm a *huge* LBP fan.Hi there VitaSquirrels!(an intention of pun from Tearaway!?)
I have a few questions:
Tearaway is really a game i should and would buy in the near future , but is this game longer is terms of gameplay than LittleBigPlanet Vita? How about the replay value?
Another question and it is an important one , im about to change from a 16g memory card to a 32g memory but the NA 32 g memory card is more expensive (at the place im gonna buy it) than one they sell that is the Asian Memory card of 32g
Is there any problem if i have USA account and Vita but use a 32 g memory card from the Asian region?

It'll probably be 12,95, which is about 17$. I don't think that's a "no way in hell I'm paying THAT much" price. 10 +/- a few euros here or there, who gives a fuck about a game's price at that point? Especially if it's a great port. It's also pretty silly to compare US & EU prices directly, given that everything costs more in Europe + taxes and all.Awesome! Just grabbed Rayman Legends finally - at least I got something out of the sale guaranteed, it's not a bad one by the looks of things too.
Also Terraria is confirmed for this week for EU and next week for US.
Apparently someone said it's like "17 bucks" for EU though. No chance I'm paying that unfortunately.

Thanks guys. I'm going to hold off on Tearaway for a bit. I enjoyed the demo, but I'm not sure about plunking down 25-30 for it. I really want Persona 4 Golden. Despite having already finished Persona 4. But I'm going to wait for it go on sale at some point. 40 retail/digital is simply too much.
That said, Rayman Legends is 13,49 (PS+) on PSN right now (christmas deal).
HOT DAMN!!! I JUST FINISHED THE GAME ON THE DAILY CHALLENGE TOO! THANK YOU!
First time poster here, but I have been reading the Vita GAF thread for about a year now. I purchased one because of this thread and everyone's enthusiasm for the device.

Congrats. I noticed it doesn't show me (or you) on the leaderboard for the daily challenge, which sucks. I'm almost positive when you beat the game on the Steam version your score still shows up.
No it's not because then they put game to PSN+ half a year later and you are stuck with digital copy while physicall can be sold![]()
Oh shit. I need to try that.

Man, that Ys limited edition looks so nice.
Sony's problem at this point is far beyond just getting games on the system. They lost a PR war and most people don't even know what the Vita is (in the west) and if they do "lol it doesn't have games, or I can play the games on another system". It is going to take more than just 1 system seller to dig the Vita out of its hole. In fact they would have to pump so much money into the thing and come out with an actual successful relaunch campaign for any real ground to be gained.
I love my Vita and wish it well, but I am pretty pessimistic when it comes to its future. I don't regret the purchase though. I've enjoyed the games I've played on it and expect to buy more of the games coming out for it.
Only if u copy it over a ps3. The latest vita fw added lots of bugs with strutting sounds and codec conversations.
What do you mean by that?
First time poster here, but I have been reading the Vita GAF thread for about a year now. I purchased one because of this thread and everyone's enthusiasm for the device.
The Vita is my first portable gaming device that I've ever owned and I'm really enjoying it so far. For years I've always told myself that handheld gaming devices are pointless, that they offer substandard games on crappy hardware and tiny screens.
The Vita was the device I was waiting for. Don't ask why, but a decent screen resolution and DUAL analog inputs are so important to me. I've never once considered a 3DS due to the crappy resolution and only one circle pad. I refused to buy a PSP due to only one nub, a crappy nub at at that.
Anyway, now that I've got a Vita, I can see why people like them. There is something intimate about playing a game that is specifically designed to be played on a portable console. The screen is close to your face, thus blocking out a lot of distractions (for me at least) and it kind of creates this sense that it's just you and the game world; it really sucks you in.
I don't have a lot of money but here's my little Vita library so far... I purchased these games based on GAF's recommendation largely.

Those are the only physical games I have currently. Oddly enough, I have not played much of any of them yet, haha. The first thing I bought was P4G, but I've barely played it. I take a very, very long to complete games and I spent a heck of a lot of time on Gravity Rush (PS+, GAF's wisdom). I really, really loved that game.
On a technical level, it runs at sub-native res., much of the open world was very bland and had nothing to do in it, the combat could be insanely repetitive and frustrating, the story was pretty cliche, but gosh darn, GR has so much charm! I just love that gravity shifting mechanic and am very excited for the sequel.
I don't really listen to music very much, but the music in video games has always been a huge factor for me in enjoying the game, and I love GR's OST! The fun, charm and music just really came together for me. It also probably helps that it was the first portable game I've ever experienced.
I'm playing KZ:M right now, on mission 6 of the single player. I plan to finish up all of the SP contracts then try out the multiplayer. I just got access to secure N wifi about a week ago, and boy, it's so neat being able to access the internet, PSN, download patches without a CAT cable hooked up to something.
My old router had WPS that couldn't really be shut off, so, someone with Reaver could get in easy. As a result, I was never able to turn on the wifi. With my new router, and Tomato, I can shut WPS off for good, so now I can enjoy online functionality on my Vita. It's really great. For instance, today I downloaded a patch for KZ:M over wifi! Damn that was neat.
I think it's a shame that KZ:M is not given more credit for it's technical achievements. It's a very stunning game. Maybe someone could play some KZ:M online with me sometime? I'm not a good player but I'm good company! PSN ID is Marion_Walters43.
Once I finish up KZ:M I'm going to play Ys: Memories of Celceta. I've never played a Ys game before but I'm eager to try this one.
I plan to stick to mostly physical carts versus digital. Like I said, I've never owned a handheld gaming device before, and the last carts I ever used were on the SNES. For some reason, I freaking love these carts. I really enjoy owning the boxes, the carts, and most of all, that satisfying feeling of putting the carts into the Vita. Shame that manuals died out...
I'm disappointed though that the carts, as far as I am aware, are limited to 4gigs. I hope they up them to 8gigs in the future, I believe this will limit game quality. The 3ds has 8gigs one I believe, the Vita should too!
I do have a 32gb memory card, as well as an 8gb one that just sits around. I would import a 64gb one but I don't qualify for a credit card. The digital games that I've bought are Alundra, Ultimate Ghosts N' Goblins, Spelunky, Super Stardust Delta, FF6, Chrono Trigger (I can put up with the load times!), and Castlevania SOTN. Of course, all the PS+ stuff too.
I plan to get a physical copy of Tearaway once I've beaten some of these games. I hope Sony pushes for more games exclusive to the Vita. Not SCEA of course though, they suck. I called them up the other night to ask a question about the Vita and they told me they never heard of it! Kidding.
Anyway, sorry this post is so long, it's just that I finally got approval to post in this thread and I've wanted to just say a big thank you to everyone who posts in this thread for a long time. You guys and gals have made me really enjoy the Vita.
Thanks!
Just noticed this:
The PlayStation 4 friends list shows the online status (online/offline & the game) of Vita players.
Does it do it when the Vita is in sleep mode?
Meaning you cannot directly download MGS from PS vita store. Buy it from ps3store/webstore and download it on the PS3. Then transfer the game to the vita! But as of the latest firmware the codec conversations started stuttering. They worked find before.
Dangerously close to port begging, for which I apologize.. but how incredible would a Vita Psychonauts be? Highly optimized, maybes some vita specific interactivity features... tearaway just reminds me a lot of that game, and thinking about how amazing it would be on this little system.
First time poster here, but I have been reading the Vita GAF thread for about a year now. I purchased one because of this thread and everyone's enthusiasm for the device.
Received my Amazon Vita bundle today and purchased a 32gb from gamestop to go with it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get in on the half price deal earlier.
Saw a post about 64gb cards in r/vita and knew I had to upgrade. Roughly $50 more for double the space wasn't a hard choice at all. Now I have to return the 32gb and scum around with the 4gb until the new card arrives. Oh well, it'll be worth it I think =).
Terraria release date confirmed. Dec 11 for EU, Dec 17 for NA.
I'm only about a hour and a half into Rainbow Moon but I'm impressed at how fun a SRPG it is. The game feels absolutely perfect for a handheld too, especially with the ability to save anytime.

Dated April, 2014.
For Japanese release of course
Let's hope God Eater 2 gets localized because online without ad-hoc party will be added.
As long as it finds a niche as a Japanese / indie game machine with the occasional first party game with a decent budget, I'll be totally happy with that. The conditions probably just aren't there in the West to make the Vita big unless they can get the price way down ( including memory cards) and aggressively push PS4+Vita bundles. But I think they may have turned the corner in Japan, so the system's future isn't all bad.
