No Man's Sky announced - Hello Games (VGX)

The developer Himself said that Joe Danger was successful for them, but due to it being distributed digitally we dont have any numbers or anything.

I guess I should not be surprised that some are crapping on this because its an indie game, and we all know indie games cannot be great games. Im dying to learn more about it.

Given their previous relationship with Sony, and the size of the team I would not be surprised if this ended up being a "first on playstation" game. Though I could also see it being PC only at launch as well, unless they get help I cannot imagine it will be multiplatform out of the gate, even more so due to the persistent nature that the developer alluded to.

If we dont see something between now, and E3 Id be willing to bet they show up on Sony, or Microsofts stage.

Any way to assume how successful? Because I can't imagine Joe Danger being THAT successful. And the sequel did really REALLY badly did it not?

Surely Joe Danger isn't funding NMS's development, unless they are being backed up by someone

This reminds me of Spore. I think its the red trees. I hope its better than Spore.

Wonder if they have publisher knocking down their doors yet. Hope it's multiplatform, if they do use kickstarter's it's almost criminal to make it exclusive to one system.

It makes me think of old sci-fi art that I saw when I was a kid. That captured my imagination.

This kind of stuff:

I creamed my fur when I saw the trailer. I've been waiting for this for so long. I hope they can deliver.

I'm just curious would people be excited if only the trailer was shown.

Elite came out in 1984, done by 2 people. It used procedural systems to generate eight separate galaxies. 1984. That game provided lots of people hundreds of hours of fun.

Why it's so difficult to believe that, in almost 2014, a team of 4 people are capable of using procedural systems to create fun, systemic gameplay is something I can just not understand. It's very short-sighted and shows a lack of knowledge of what that kind of technology can provide.

Does the gameplay still have to be fun? Absolutely. But anyone that has played Joe Danger would be able to tell you that the folks at Hello Games know fun gameplay.

I don't that's why I'm not excited. A more intimate and tightly designed world would have been more impressive from a team their size.

Ah, ok. I'm glad you know what's best for them to do.

Lol your asking the wrong guy, I dont have anything to go by other than the developer saying Joe Danger was successful, they have also been released on IOS at this point which probably gave them a boost.

Its entirely possible they are already partnered with a publisher, but they could also launch a kickstarter. However successful Joe Danger was its clear that it gave them the freedom to atleast get this thing off the ground. Now we just have to wait to see how progress goes.

I love games where I can go underwater. I also like the idea of potentially infinite explorable worlds. This is crazy impressive for a 4 person studio.

How can people announce games without announcing platforms these days?

Wii U owners are eager to know what platform(s) this is on.

Any idea what the gameplay involves?

Exploration. He did mention there will be combat, but didn't go into details. Looks like there will be ship combat from the snippets in the trailer (you can shoot stuff).

This game gives me all the right chills. I still cannot believe there are only 4 people working on this too. Completely insane, but completely awesome.

Tickles you right in the nostalgia spot, eh? Or N-spot, as they say.

Me too, man. Me too. And it feels soooo good.

The developer did not have time to go into a ton of detail, but he did say that you wont just be going to planets and looking/wandering around. There is combat, there are unique ecosystems with various plant/animal life some of which will be higher on the food chain than you are. Also from the trailer we can clearly see space travel/combat/exploration.

The last part that he mentioned was that it was persistent, but gave no major details on what that entails. No platforms have been announced at this point.

Out of the major publishers they have the best relationship with Sony as far as I am aware.

You just can't make some people happy anymore.

- Small, handcrafted worlds: "Why isn't the world bigger?"
- Large, procedurally generated worlds: "Why isn't the world more intimate and tightly designed?"
- Large, handcrafted worlds: "Why is this game $500 and scheduled for release in 2025?"

No it wouldn't. Do you really believe that? This is a game that gives you the tools to visit apparently inumerous planets with apparently inumerous combinations of fauna, flora, and geographical structures. Even if it ends up being a buggy mess, it will still be really impressive, and worthy of attention.

This is what every person who played Noctis but couldn't even decipher what was going on wants. This is the kind of sci fi that has been seriously been lacking in contemporary media. This is picking up two dead genres, space exploration and space combat. And it's an indie game. This is an impressive enterprise regardless of how you look at it.

Ah, ok. I'm glad you know what's best for them to do.

Hey if they can pull it off man than I'd gladly take back what I said but as it stands the game looks boring especially compared to other similar described games like Destiny. Loved Joe Danger and I am just not pleased with this direction.

I'd give you a high-five right now if I could.

Where did you get that picture from and can I have more? lol. Isaac Asimov n shit. Love it.

Looks really cool and ambitious.... but it also looked incredibly boring as far as moving around and actual gameplay. It might be the developers' wet dream and many of our's as well, but I don't know...

Please be good!

Impressive as an indie game, but it lacked.. I don't know, substance?

Some middling to great art, and very little gameplay information outside of it being based around exploration.

What's primarily carrying my interest for this right now is the procedurally generated aspect of it, which is VERY ambitious. But it might just end up being a game I observe from the far if there isn't a real gameplay hook or it ends up being what we got from Spore.

Getting way too many feels I got from Spore and we all know how that ended.

Different people = Different opinion, is my guess.

I'm impressed, even though i'm not entirely sure what you're supposed to do in the game.

Spore->generic scifi->Dune->Star Wars.
That was what the trailer conjured up in my mind.

Kind of cool but doesn't tell much about the game.

Sounds interesting and the music choice was ace (65daysofstatic)

But I'm unsure on what the moment to moment gameplay will be like. Cautiously optimistic.

Best thing to come out of the show. Love the idea of being able to hop into a spaceship and fly off world and onto another planet seamlessly.
