No Man's Sky announced - Hello Games (VGX)

Due to it being a 4 man team they can only work on one platform at a time and that platform will be PS4. PS4 dev kits were out there earlier since Sony has been courting indy devs for a long time and MS didn't give a shit about them before the 180.

PC isn't a platform now?

That looks pretty awesome. Hopefully they're able to still craft good unique content and plots so that the game doesn't feel sterile and aimless.

Eh. It's a lot better now that they're approving games in such large batches. Practically everything I'm interested in has been approved.

Approving bigger batches of games helps but sure as hell doesn't fix it from being a big popularity contest. Why would it be a better system than whatever Sony are doing now with indie self-publishing?

Sony attempting a money hat?

Would be a massive get if it happens, but what would it mean for a PC version?

They are UK based, Shahid is always actively seeking and meeting indie developers. Of course he knew the game beforehand. But we can't read nothing more from that tweet. I would bet PC at least is a given.

It costs lots of money, and time, per platform, to port. Those guys might not have either and would drop one even without donning a moneyhat.
They may not even have Xbox dev kit or coding experience, its not something you can just jump into, you need months of free time to read the SDK docs.
Theyve always been close to Sony and you dont have to answer to anyone when porting to PC.

They don't have an X1 dev kit according to the recent ID@ list...

Massive oversight by MS...

It looks nice but I can't help but think of all those worlds you got to explore in Mass Effect. Unless they include some kind of addictive grinding element, I can see this getting old very fast.

No it wouldn't, Greenlight is an incredibly flawed system. The way Sony are handling indies with PS4 right now is fine.

Although being able to Kickstart games from the PS4 would be pretty sweet. Maybe a Kickstarter app for the PS4 that just centres around the Games section or something?
So how do I tell Sony when I want to see a game on the PS4? Twitter?

The worlds you got to 'explore' in Mass Effect were so small and boring across the board.

That was one of the larger complaints of that game, is how horrible all of those worlds were.

You are correct, they are going to need to show more gameplay in order to keep us hooked.

No platforms were annouced, this tells me sony is still working on something with them. I think it will be exclusive for ps4.

I hate this procedural shit. How about Developers actually start paying attention to things like level design and actually make an effort to specifically tailor levels for maximum enjoyment. Procedurally designed levels and areas will never ever be as good.
Ok cool well the rest of us will play it and have a great time exploring new worlds. You can still play the thousands of games with hand made levels that once you see once there's nothing new to be discovered.

He does allot of things with devs, but he is also responsible for signing them to playstation platforms (I would assume that includes exclusivity terms).

However I would not just think Sony is going to try and lock it down, I could see Sony giving them options. They could offer them full exclusivity and all of the rescources that come with that, or they could go pub fund and it would be timed exclusive to PS4, or they could just offer them support for "first on console" rights.

Its gotta be tempting for a team like Hello to really consider an offer from a pub like Sony as they dont dictate what the developers do with the game, and they have a ton of resources that a kickstarter would not garuntee.

My first guess is that it will be PS4/PC first, then maybe Xbone later.
People are/were just pissy/salty because for some absolutely insane reason, the Rapture devs thought that even though his game was being built by Sony, that they would be able to put it on PC later. Which is dumb, because no game built using Sony's entire resource pool has ever been on PC.

I'd say it's probably too late for this game and a full PS4 exclusive deal. Those are probably made at the pitching phase. If anything it'll launch on PC and PS4, Sony will Pub Fund this, it'll stay exclusive for around 6 months and ported to the WiiU, and never come to Xbone because of MS Launch Day Parity.

So how do I tell Sony when I want to see a game on the PS4? Twitter?

You could, I guess? Didn't Sony do a thing not long ago where they were asking what games you wanted to see on PS systems through Twitter?

But aside from that, it's sort of both the developers and the platform holders responsibility more-so than ours. If a developer wants their game on a platform they'll go to the platform holders, and if the platform holders want a game on their platform they'll go to the developers.

@shahidkamal for Indies.
@giocorsi for everything else.
@amboyes for stuff.
@yosp for things.
Also, get the developers twitter handle involved, it helps out I'd you can get a dialog with them going.

I actually don't think so. I mean I have no idea about prgoramming but just from the pure concept it's not very different from e.g. Starbound, only that it's 3d instead of 2d but how much of a difference does thast make if we're talking procedually generated planets just like Minecraft is already doing, only the graphics are a little bit more pretty.

Well, that's quite an understatement. :P

I hope they can pull it off at such a scale without making it feel somewhat repetitive.

Funny the game of the show comes out of nowhere and eats the AAA games industry's lunch.

It's funny too because people wanted to see sequels to those standard AAA games and not some game from the studio that made the "D grade joe danger games." Yet, they have the first truly next-gen looking and sounding game. A game that couldn't be done on last gen consoles.

I'm glad that VGX was a platform that they could use to show off such and incredible project. VGX was much improved over the last few years.

Perceived interest from the people that would be buying the game helps put. Or was Type Zero going to come to Playstation eventually regardless? It's simply not true anymore. There's a place on the internet where a developer, a publisher, and a consumer can have a conversation with each other. Just believe your important instead of minimalizing it.

I love single player experiences but I would not mind AT ALL if this game has some massively massive multiplayer world where you interact with thousands of players, with in-game populated communities, towns, villages and stuff, with clan wars lasting for months with extreme strategy etc.

Could totally see this happening, you can only do so much at a time with 4 people and since its supposed to be super easy to port to PS4, my guess is PS4 & PC first, and Xbone afterward (assuming no exclusivity was signed)

Out of curiosity, was Hello Games one of the games let into the id@Xbox program?

Edit: Nevermind, answered above me.

Then you might want to wait until we see the ending.

Saying things like "Every atom procedural" makes me weary.

Yeah, I think some people are getting a bit too hyped, especially comparing it to games like Destiny. We all know Bungie will deliver a quality title, we know nothing of Hello Games ability to build quality gameplay in a game like this. All we can do is wish them the best in achieving their goals and that it can match our lofty expectations.

It will be interesting to see when this gets a release, depending on platform/s, it could be a mistake to go up against Elite: Dangerous.

I wonder how long MS's supposed policy of launch day parity is going to last if they lose games to their rivals.

Well to be fair I dont think anyone could have predicted a dev going from Joe Danger, to this....

But yeah, Sonys approach to all this has, and continues to be better in many ways. It also helps in a case like this that they have an established relationship with the developer already.

Platforms?

Oh it's Hello Games, so it's PS4 -> XBone gets directors cut -> PS4 gets No Man's Sky 2 that is way worse than NMS 2.

Just kidding (I am a bit cranky about the suckiness of Joe Danger 2), footage looked interesting, like Starbound in 3D (wait, is that Minecraft?)

Why is there any interest for this game? Don't see anything you can even do on any of the millions of planets that exist except explore them.

Just cause 2 had a big world but no one cared since there was nothibg to do.

Not interested in this game until more information is released. Four man team doesn't inspire Mich hope though.

I thought during the interview portion after the trailer, Sean Murray said something like 'coming to nextgen platforms.' I think if the game were exclusive to a single platform that would've been announced. I have a feeling this will at least be on two of the three nextgen platforms, hopefully all.

As far as platforms are concerned: Sony has been really good with indies, but I feel like this game would really benefit from using the free dedicated servers and cloud computing on Xbox, and as Hello Games is such a small studio I can see them wanting to take advantage of that.

Don't forget that JD2: The Movie was a timed 360 exclusive, so they had a established relationship with MS too, but still weren't chosen for the ID@ program...
