Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

There's a sales pattern I see: Wii U is bought by lots of couples. Just like on 3DS, I expect a significant amount of Wii U's adoption to be driven by girls.

mine are totally Aostia-driven, but I can tell you something: young couples (with small apartments) especially witha little baby around, would LOVE the Wii U (for the offtv, for the library and so on)
at lest, that's my experience

Yep. This.
100% this

I would rather get X in Spring and Smash in the fall. D:

I would rather get X this Friday. Best Xmas (I'm so subtle, ain't I?) season ever. (at least this millennium since Terranigma in 1996 still holds a special place in my heart)

Same... but I can't see that happening. D: I'm worried X won't even make it in 2014. :(

---

There is also zero reason to worry about that right now. X has always been a 2014 game. We've seen gameplay a year ago. They are obviously quite far along (they wrapped Xenoblade in 2010 after all). We know localization is already underway simultaneously. I bet the only reason you're worried is the Operation Rainfall scenario which has absolutely zero bearing on this game's situation. They've been billing it as a big game since last January when they first showed it.

I hope every 1st party Japanese game for Wii U lozalized simultenaously with the development so I don't have to wait for one year just to play SMTxFE, FEU and X.

thanks to everyone that responded (Andrew. Goodlife Morfeo KingSnake ozfunghi) i think i will follow up with that best buy deal and get mario world and pikmin or 101 for myself. ill also get nintendoland and party u to get another cheap controller. right now i have 2 + and 2 original. i guess when the next mario kart comes out the + controllers will be required? i will also have to do some of the BC games as well. i remember when i first bought my wii we played that blocks game where you throw balls all the time.

Nintendo can't afford to sit on WiiU titles, thankfully. So we'll grt it pretty quick after Japan.

Now, if only they can get the Wii Hoards to upgrade. Mario Kart 8 might be a system seller.

A Wii Sports 2 with some good hooks and advertising might do it. They need to show Wii motes being used a lot.

Wht's the best route for getting some Wii remote pluses? Are they really still 40$?

Nintendo was selling refurbed wiimotion+ wiimotes and matching nunchucks for 20 bones yesterday.

Are they any good? I am interested in hearing how clean they are, any problems people had, etc.

If they're coming from Nintendo, they should be fine. They have to be fixed and marked working before they can be resold, it's not just reselling what gets comes in under repair.

We had to beg for Xenoblade localization during a two year drought. Think about that.

They were still making that wiifit/wiisports money. The WiiU's situation is still MUCH different.

Maybe it's just where I have my WiiU located (the basement), but does the WiFi seem really, really bad for anyone else? I'll be able to connect to Miiverse occasionally, but then, whenever I try to click on anything, it'll say it can't connect to the internet. I dunno if I just gotta move that shit closer or something, but yeah... it's not super reliable.

I haven't bought them myself but Nintendo is pretty strict about the build quality of the products they sell. I've owned every one of their consoles going back to the NES (usually launch units) and they still all work perfectly. I've never had a console or controller break on me. Since these are refurbished directly by Nintendo, I think its safe to say that they'd look pretty good if not close to new and be fully functional.

NoA still doesn't give a shit. They will never give a shit.

Naw, they give a shit. They're just REALLY bad at their jobs.

"Let's make the core marketing strategy for Super Luigi U centralized in ONE AMERICAN CITY!"

Good job.

The Wii setup the Wii U for failure, think about it..

I think any 3rd party developers that decide to make a Wii game from this point on would get laughed out of retail.

Same and mine isn't far from my router - 15ft... Wired seems to be the best option.

Might be location. Mine gets wifi no problem w/out being near a router. But I've not tried it in any basements

Well, i'm not that young anymore, but yes, this is totally my case (and also Wii BC...I skipped last gen)

Manged to pick up Splinter Cell on Wii U for £14 ( thank you blockbuster for failing)

Loving the single player, the higher resolution is definitely noticeable.
The online however is COMPLETELY dead. Met one guy on there for coop, couldn't get into spies vs merc. Sad times.

Haven't encountered any hardware issues myself, but the obvious stuff would be the gamepad screen, sticks and buttons. I think I've seen a few people in this thread make reference to grindy sticks and squishy buttons on occasion.

Nintendo land is good fun in multiplayer, cheap and makes a nice change of pace from platforming and monster hunting. Alternatively I believe the Wonderful 101 has multiplayer but can't vouch for the quality of it.

But don't buy that crap (Playbook) from Blackberry! Doesn't even do skype, only a proprietary app, just like Wii U.

Disc is slowest, internal SSD is fastest. USB inbetween. There is a comparison video for MH3 posted here somewhere. Disc>USB:HDD>USB:SSD>internal SSD

Check the screen, i guess.
Get Pikmin 3, ZombiU, Lego City Stories or W101... i think they all complement those games.

Thank you both! I haven't encountered any problems so far, dude said he only played the system for four hours and it really seems that way haha.

I downloaded the demo for the W101 and WOW it blew me away, haven't been this excited to pick up a game after playing the demo since, well ever maybe. Thank you two for the advice. Picking up the W101 first thing tomorrow, can't wait!

Oh wow that sucks. I picked it up on black friday and am still making my way through the single player so I haven't touched the multiplayer.

I must say the wii u browser on the pad is absouletely lovely. being able to play youtube music in the background While using it is soo good.‹3

So how do I go about doing the system update from the super Mario 3d world disc? I put the disc in and it just takes me to the game to play it.

Looking for some party games. Wii or Wii U. Mario Party is a given as is Wii Party U and Nintendoland. Any other suggestions? Was looking to Fortune Street.

It's a completely different market and situation now.
With the value of the Yen like it is, and that they are having to support a platform like the WiiU no matter what, they literally can not sit on any release for long.
They have to get them out to make back any money they can.

Besides, we already know they've started localization.

It's rather simplistic but Rabbids Land is apparently a decent party game.

Got a question really appreciate if someone can answer..

Is it possible to system link two Wii Us together for LAN gameplay? For example, not sure if there is an option or not, in Black Ops 2 Wii U there must be a system link option. If there is such an option then that means two Wii Us need to be connected via ethernet cable or wirelessly to play. Can somebody confirm this?

can't

Game & Wario is not bad. Sketch and Thief are both really fun. Islands is also pretty good. That is about it for multiplayer in that game though.

Man I'm really tempted to get a wii u for some reason today because of off-tv play. So I can play Wind Waker and Black Flag completely off tv?? I thought for sure I'd just get ps4 but wii u is strangely growing on me...

Black Ops 2 and I believe Ghosts has a system link option on Wii U although I've never used it. I assume you just connect to the same WiFi router or get an ethernet adapter for both Wii Us and then connect to a LAN.

Can someone give me some advice?

If I buy a Wii U, what other necessities would I need (besides the the video games, I'm talking more about the accessories/controllers)? Keep in mind that I've never owned a Wii console.

Thanks in advance!!

In that case I demand Viewtuful Joe 3 & 4 immediately.

Done.

If you're going single player, nothing except maybe a headset.
Otherwise you might need some WiiMotes and Nunchucks.

Wii Remote Plus and a Nunchuk to get started. If you want multiplayer you'll need a few Wii Remotes (nunchuks are less used). The Gamepad is a pretty good catch-all but a Classic or Pro controller is sometimes nice to have to reduce weight for longer sessions.
