Mesh leftover in the data files?
I caved on the xmas steamsale and got skyrim again. What mods do you guys recommend? I'm on an i5 3400, 8GB, GT650 ti 2gb, playing in 1920x1080.
Yeah, if a texture isn't showing up it's a mesh error, as the game will default to the original textures in the BSA if there isn't one in the data/textures folder.
I see. Any way I can fix this?
With the right set of a mods and a moody ENB, this is a damn pretty game to look at. Some shots I took tonight:
I actually have that installed already.
I'd do what Confidence Man said and see what's in your meshes folder. First step would be to just delete the whole thing and see what happens then. If the problem goes away then you just have to restore it and isolate which .nif file is causing the problem. If instead of an untextured mesh you get a red exclamation mark you'll know that there's a mod trying to load a unique mesh (ie not a straight replacer for an original game asset).I see. Any way I can fix this?
Ah, dumb question but have you tried reinstalling that?
Looking it up, the exact file I'm concerned with here seems to be "icecavesnowtrim01" in the textures folder. There is also a "icecavesnowtrim01_n" in the same folder. Honestly I'm not a hugely advanced mod user or file manipulator so I'm not entirely sure what to do with these files. I'm fairly confident they're the ones I'm having an issue with.I'd do what Confidence Man said and see what's in your meshes folder. @Deified Data Do you have SMIM?
Yes.
Ok, so pretty much all of Skyrim's base files (textures, models etc...) are kept in archives in the BSA format. Most mods which replace those files will use the same filenames and directories as the original files, but are put in folders in your data directory, instead of overwriting the original BSAs. The game will then load these files instead of the ones in the BSA archives. This basically means that the base files can never go "missing". If you have those two textures (the _n is just the normal map) in your data/textures folder, it most likely means that your problem isn't with those files, but with the mesh they are meant to be applied to.Nope, that didn't work either.

What ENB and settings are you using?
Uninstalled the game, all my mods, and then reinstalled everything one by one. Left out some mods, added some new ones. Got 193 files in my load order now.
Unfortunately, the whole idea was to fix my issues with BOSS (it says it sorts my load order, but the game doesn't recognize it). That didn't work.
Perhaps BOSS is making changes to the wrong place, the file it should modify is read-only or something like that?
Last i used BOSS it worked fine.
Any recommended Breezehome mods or other players homes? This one caught my eye.
Looking for a couple mods...
One that makes magic scale to the school's level that's compatible with modded spells like apocalypse spells and midas magic.
And another that adds an incinerated/electrocuted/frozen effect to enemies killed by elemental spells. I know this mod exists but after a perusal of the Nexus I can't seem to recall its name.
I don't use Midas, but I use Apocalypse and Balanced Magic.
As for the second one, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/14692/?
Actually apocalypse is the only spell mod I'm using right now anyway so that's perfect. They scale just the same as vanilla spells then?
And thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Favorite mods that mix up loot tables and make raiding dungeons a bit more rewarding?
There's at least three or four good ones on nexus. Just search for her name and pick the one that suits your tastes. So, any good Serana mods out there?
Morrowloot, you N'wah.
It doesn't play well with Immersive Armors, sadly, which is why I deactivated it for now. And I could never find Ebony Armor, which also sucked.

I use Serenaholic. I'm pretty happy with it. Wish I could change her hair though.
To use a total perk overhaul or download individual trees for individual skills?

Since all you guys have a lot more experience with Skyrim mods, am I missing any mods you consider essential? How about mods that you just really like? I'm also looking for a lot more visual mods. Also, are any of these mods really difficult to install for a super beginner, or are some of these mods just completely incompatible with each other?
thats it for now i thinks.......get BOSS for your load order....thats it...oh and instead of 2k textures you should check out Tamriel Reloaded. So recently I've become obsessed with building my first PC and modding Skyrim up the ass. I'm actually about to try that one out in this save game. Normally I use Bert's Remodel, it's awesome. As for homes I recommend Leveler's Tower, even without using any of the cheats, Riverside Lodge, Elysium Home, Amethyst Hollows and the best house ever Dev Aveza.
Sperg is great. I'm currently using synxx's Perky Reborn and I'm trying to decide which one I like better. Skyre had the best perk trees I've ever seen but unfortunately it comes bundled in with the main .esp that changes a lot of things that render it incompatible with my mod list, namely how it arbitrarily changes the stats of a lot of items.I use SPERG, it's awesome. SkyRe/Requiem, etc...just change more than I'm willing to deal with. I've spent too many hours with the game already, it needs to be fun, needlessly hacking away on some creature because SkyRe wants me to feel weak at the beginning i snot my definition of a good time. I haven't tried Requiem, but the description makes it sound like it isn't my cup of tea. SPERG changes just enough to be awesome and leaves the rest alone.
On visual mods, it's a good idea to understand what does what and separate them into categories. So assets (models and textures) will conflict with each other if they're replacing the same things, but will generally be compatible with every lighting/rendering mod under the sun. When it comes to lighting/weather/postprocess changes, there are two kinds: those that change things within the game itself with plugins which will conflict with each other (e.g. Climates of Tamriel, Realistic Lighting Overhaul) and those which overlay/alter the rendering system (ENB, FXAA injector). If you were to use all of the mods in your list that fall into those categories your game would be riddled with incompatibilities and errors. Thanks for the tips. I looked at Tamriel Reloaded and wasn't really a fan, and with what Normal Bird said it may conflict with the ENB?thats it for now i thinks.......get BOSS for your load order....thats it...oh and instead of 2k textures you should check out Tamriel Reloaded.
I'm way too much of a wuss for Frostfall, Deadly Dragons, or Better Combat. Do you have a name on that mod that makes people shut up?I'm not seeing any Frostfall in that list. Remedy that.
I also prefer Realistic Water Two over W.A.T.E.R., but that's just a matter of preference.
The best two mods I have installed do very simple things. One removes the compass, the other makes people shut the hell up. I was so tired of everyone dropping their business to go "HEY THERE!", even if they had no idea who you are.

If you were to use all of the mods in your list that fall into those categories your game would be riddled with incompatibilities and errors. Here's how I'd approach it:
- Choose an ENB preset, preferably one updated to the newer/newest DLLs (240+). Be aware that some may look good in screenshots but not be that great for actually playing the game. Also, unless you need to disable certain effects entirely, the variables that impact performance can be changed without altering the style/balance of the visuals, so you shouldn't opt for one set of settings over another purely for performance reasons.
- Some presets will require certain lighting plugins, e.g. some will require Climates of Tamriel, some will have their own. Use the plugin required and nothing more.
- Unless you know exactly what you're doing, don't throw another injector such as SweetFX or FXAA on top of ENB.
- Don't use any mods that duplicate existing ENB functions, as they're likely to be worse at it: e.g. Dynavision for depth of field and Imaginator for colours are unnecessary and can bloat your saves.

So I guess what you're saying is that an ENB takes care of most of the lighting/texture needs. I revised my list a little below, so could you give me some more specific examples of stuff I shouldn't install/is redundant with an ENB?
