I had a full fledged 5.1 setup a few years ago, but then our cat adopted us and she was terrified everytime I had the surround system on. Main culprit was the subwoofer, but high volumes in general make her feel uncomfortable.Where are you hiding your audio setup? I find it hard to believe that such an obvious movie maniac misses out on a huge part of the whole experience. I'm not even talking about an expansive 7.2 setup, a simple 2.0 bookshelf system would be a major improvement.
So I sold the surround setup and went with TV speakers sound instead. Only 2.0 or 2.1 sound isn't my bag and the humble stereo system that we have is alright for music only purposes.
May sound stupid, but the preferences are set towards the well being of the cat who is a member of the family.
