Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

So much salt against PC gamers. What did they do to you?

Nothing against PC Gamers. I'm a PC Gamer myself and started gaming using a 8088 with CGA graphics back in 1987. I just don't like the notion that they are the master race and has the superior platform. I think both consoles and PCs have their pros and cons.

I Hate all Valve games. especially Half Life, For the life of me I could not get into it I really tried to but the it was a very bland experience for me.

Maybe HL3 will change that who knows

Also I like GTAIV's Story better than GTAVs. Niko was a far more entertaining character than Michael,Frank,or Trevor.

Final Fantasy 7 is HANDS DOWN the BEST JRPG EVER CREATED.

Anyone who says otherwise is just saying it because they want to be cool and not like things that are mainstream. I just ignore their opinion

It had jaw-dropping graphics for its time that STILL looks good.
-Amazing and unique characters
-Amazing cyber-punk/ghetto atmosphere (perfect atmosphere for FF... better than medieval stuff)
-Cool protagonist ("the world is about to end? that's not my problem"), badass antagonist (best villian of all time)
-Love triangle that lets YOU decide who to go with
-Unexpected twist (Zach??)
-Unexpected character death (no other FF dared to do this after FF7)
-Lots of hilarious incidents (dressing up as a girl, barret moments, etc)
-Lots of moments where you can select what to say (FF8, FF9 and FFX only had a few of these)
-Amazing music
-Great story, save the world form sephiroth w/ some twists here and there, not too confusing, right amount of character development

Titanfall is only popular because of it's exclusivity.
Yeah, I don't get the hype train for Titanfall either. Same goes for Evolve. It's weird how I see so many people hate on Call of Duty and FPS in general here and then board the hype train for Titanfall.

And here I go with controversial, unpopular opinion....

Final Fantasy XV was probably the most impressive game for the PS4/Xbox One shown at E3.

I think it's fine that you consider it the best RPG and all, nothing wrong with that. But I find it pretty obnoxious that you treat it as fact.

This isn't controversial at all. There is huge hype for XV both in the west and in Japan. We have some vocal detractors, but XV has shown that F2F is still strong when SE isn't forcing Lightning down our throats.

Seconding the post two posts above me. Especially for the fact that I consider this the worst game I've ever had the displeasure of playing. But I don't care if other people like it, none of my business.

I played it back in the day, it's a neat game but I wouldn't even include it in my top 50 JRPGs of all time. I do enjoy the Materia system a lot.

Probably controversial by saying it's the most impressive game at E3. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't agree exactly with that.

I hate Jrpgs. I can't get into them at all I don't find the 3DS to be all that interesting because of that. If I go to GameStop, I'm immediately recommended Jrpgs or just turned based rpgs that I hate.

I hate sappy love stories in games. There's really no need for that. I like when it cuts to the chase and gets straight to the point. All that lovey dovey garbage is whack to me.

The first bioshock is really unplayable. I kind of hate it really. I don't know what was so amazing about this game but I'm trying to fight through it and I can't. I just want to give up and try 2 to see if anything was fixed because part 1 is just awful.

Silent Hill doesn't suck. Downpour was a fantastic game (minus the technical glitches [especially on PS3]).

A lot of games where a character dies at the end are threatening to make that the go-to solution for a "deep" and "emotional" ending. There's a very recent game that uses it, and as much as I liked the experience, it felt like the easy route for sadness.

I don't enjoy any of Nintendo's IPs anymore. I don't hate them, I'm just not a fan and don't see the appeal in Mario these days. The later side scrolling Mario games bore me.

I consider PDZ, Viva Pinata, Kameo and Nuts and bolts some of rares stronger work when separating nostalgia from actual quality , equal or better than most of their N64 output outside of Banjo, Diddy and a couple others.

I think the 360 stomps the PS3 Exclusives wise (in part related).

I like my Xbox One.

Assassins Creed, Uncharted, Skyrim, and Call of Duty are heavily overrated games that will not be loved classics in the future.

Wii U will beat out the two new consoles game wise for at least another 2 years for me.

All I can think of for now :p

Aim assist is needed in competitive online shooters on CONSOLES like in Battlefield and COD,

which is why I won't be buying Killzone: Shadow Fall.

I feel like the people clamoring for no Aim Assist don't play much of online shooters and can't really hold their own in the likes of Call of Duty, where the aim assist is perfectly done.

Also feel like they want this to go away so competent players can all revert back to non-precise controlling scheme so that everyone becomes a mostly bad player now.

"I am a bad player, and now you are one too with no aim assist. We are even!"

I will never, never understand the love the PS2 got. There's like no worthwhile exclusives on it IMO, and out of all my systems, has the smallest library. I think we're talking less than a dozen games total here! Not only that, but the hardware is horrid. Do you know the sad part? I kinda feel the same way about the 3DS, but for different reasons.

wHAT the hell!? How dare you sir? LOL you definitely picked the right thread for your confession! PS2 had like all the games... google a list it's literally insane. Exclusives or not, ALL the games.

I'm not crazy about the PS2 earlier, but I thought it was a pretty good system. However I do understand the craze it got and it was probably very well deserved.

(I prefer the Dreamcast .-.)

1. Dynasty Warriors is awesome!
2. Nintendo has one more home console left.
3. Digital distribution is bad for consoles.
4. Lightning is the best FF protagonist ever.
5. Xbox One has the best line-up of games.
(Of the current gen consoles.)

Someone should've stabbed Cloud
the way they stabbed Aeris
the moment he said that. That's not "Cool", that's stupid. You LIVE on the world. If the WORLD is ending, YOU die too. And if you're going to write a story about a character who doesn't care if HE dies OR the world dies, save me the trouble and just kill him before the story starts.

And, LOL. If you want to go that route:

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is the greatest J-RPG ever made:

- Beautiful music, right from the very start of the game
- Even the English dubbed songs are good
- Hilarious characters that had tons of depth
- Gorgeous graphics
- Emotionally gripping, if simplistic, story
- Each environment had tons of personality, and really made you feel like you were going on a journey and not just entering RPG Town #52.
- Pretty much the ideal fantasy world, with tons of potential for future stories.
I want Lunar 3 more than GAF wants Shenmue 3, Fallout 4, and TLG.

It took me a while to appreciate the PS2 at all too. The PS1 is one of the worst systems ever IMO, but I eventually warmed to the PS2. Still my least favourite gen 6 system, but gen 6 was the best generation so it's still pretty good. The PS3 is sony's best home console IMO.

What?! PS1 is my second favorite console of all time after the nes. So many great games on it. How is it the worst?

PC gaming hasn't even been interesting since 2003, let alone good. Since then its been mostly unoptimized beta versions of console games with dead communities. The people that made PC gaming great grew up and moved on a long time ago. MS took the greatness of PC gaming in the 90's, shoved it a box and moved the experience to the living room. PC gaming is living in a past that will never come back.

The day you try out Steam your vision will radically change. Believe me.

...Well. I suppose it does say "controversial". But, wow. I have to imagine you prefer Western games.

Hope you are not trolling but can you tell me why you think Steam is terrible for PC?

This is just anecdotal evidence, but even ignoring all the things they have done, I have a huge group of friends from third world countries, I know many many people that never ever ever bought PC games, they just pirated them all.

Because of Steam, this same group of people actually own and purchase a lot of stuff from Steam, all of the sudden, their wages can actually support buying entertainment instead of stealing it.

That alone is great for PC gaming and im sure is some of the reason why PC gaming is seeing a huge boost lately.

First of all, the fact that a monopoly is always bad for the consumers.
DRM don’t hurt pirates, they don’t care. DRM hurt only the legitimate customers. And steam itself is a DRM. I also don’t like have to go through the steam application to install and play, and have it always running. And I don't want any sort of crap installed on my pc, I pay for the game, I want the game only.
Plus a bit of personal backstory of things gone pretty bad with it that costed me and kinda pissed me off, so I'm personally boycotting it.
(Not sure about this: does it still not let you choose your games' installation folder?)
I have various reasons for boycotting it, I’m a strong believer in the “vote with your wallet” stance, and that’s why I buy from GOG, which I believe is better for the PC consumers.

Still, I see where the love comes from and I understand other people opinion on it.

I started playing The Last of Us today.

It's not really that interesting yet, although I've only just got to the point of where you get Ellie and thats about an hour in. So far everything is (I assume) setting the scene. I am reserving judgement of course until I finish it, but first impressions are nothing special.

But I sincerely hate this trend of follow the leader/slow walking that seems to be in every third person game these days. People criticise Skyward Sword for having a slow start, but it was never this obnoxious about it.

I really disliked Sleeping Dogs. The game crashed on me loads, wiped my save and I didn't think it offered anything new to the free-roaming genre. Had more fun with the original True Crime games.

Max Payne 3 was a disappointment and frustrating. I can go back and play the first 2 again but have no desire to replay 3.

Loved Saints Row 2 but disliked 3. Found it forgettable and frustrating.

Hitman Absolution is the worst game and biggest disappointment I've played this gen. And I've played Haze.

Although I enjoy the Uncharted and Last of Us games I do find the shooting parts frustrating especially when the enemies charge at you and appear from all angles. Also I feel that there's almost too many enemies to shoot sometimes.

Actually, shooting in TLOU is improved over the clusterfuck that was Uncharted 3. Fair's fair, I should mention that.

But I only bought TLOU second hand because I felt scammed with the Uncharted 3 purchase and didnt want to risk being fooled again.

To be honest I think I just suck at shooting when it comes to Third Person Shooters.

It depends if you grew up playing them on consoles/dual analog. If your brain isn't adapted to one control scheme it can be hard to adjust to. I never clicked with kbam, for example. Wiimote pointing works very well for me though.

I was good at some PS2 third person shooters like Max Payne, the Punisher, 24 and Star Wars Battlefront. Just seem to struggle with it more this gen.

I used to play FPS games quite a lot (on consoles) and always played with invert on for looking up/down. Then one day it just felt wrong and I couldn't hit anything. It was like a switch had gone off in my head and I could never do it again, that day I had to switch to default (up=up, down=down) and I have no idea why.

Even GiantBomb were excited by what they saw of FFXV and they've generally been negative towards FF. And I've had friends who have never played a JRPG that had their interest piqued by FFXV.

One more I totally forgot to post: Half Life is the most overrated game I've ever played. In fact, it's a borefest with mediocre gameplay. I can't see what people like in it.

Nah. Demon's Souls (and like, at least ten or so other JRPGs) are better.

FF7 looks like crap (it always looked like crap) and the story is not that great either. The characters, music and atmosphere are really great tho.

Yeah, the PS1 wasn't that great, especially for those who aren't crazy over JRPGs. I liked the Saturn far more, but even Sega's console wasn't that great. The 32bit generation was quite meh to me.

You guys, wat. I personally worship PS1, I think it's Sony's absolute best console. Actually, I'd rank them like this:

PS1 > PS2 >>>>>>>>>>>>> PS3.

PS3, IMO, didn't feel like a PS console at all and remains my least favorite Sony system yet. I still enjoy it, but to me it was a pretty big downgrade - but I think it was simply Sony adapting to the Xbox market.

The story in The Last of Us was generic at best. (Edit: Bit of an exaggeration, I just think it's overrated.)

Street Fighter 4's art style is inferior to SF3's.

Kratos is the worst character in the video game industry.

The Witcher's combat system is awful.

Oblivion was better than Skyrim.

Resident Evil 4 was a great game that completely ruined the survival horror genre.

Red Dead Redemption is superior to every GTA game.

Shadow of the Colossus was too tedious to be enjoyable. (I played the PS3 port.)

...Well. I suppose it does say "controversial". But, wow. I have to imagine you prefer Western games.

Not really no. Not at all. My favourite software these days comes from Atlus, Nintendo and Platinum. I just don't really care for Square's output and never have. I personally feel like the PS1 era was the dark ages for RPGs, both the SNES/Gen and the GC/PS2 had better RPGs IMO. There's literally only 1 game on the PS1 I think is still good today and that's the original MGS, but I think that Twin Snakes is a big improvement anyway.

I never clicked with the Zelda games, had Skyward Sword and that magic disc with Ocarina, Majora and a bunch of other games from the series on Gamecube. No matter how hard I tried I just didn't enjoy it.

Kingdom Hearts is super overrated because everyone loves Disney.

Skullgirls is way better than Street Fighter IV.

Gears of War 1 had the best campaign mode.

I liked MW2's mental killstreaks, including the nuke.

I really liked MS' idea of game sharing/no pre-owned.

It was incredible when it came out. But if we're talking currently the best JRPG ever created, I'd disagree and i'm not saying that to try to be edgy either. Frankly I enjoyed FF9 and FF6 more, though FF7 is by no means far behind

I'm not the biggest fan of TLOU, I tihnk it's very overrrated but even I will say stick with it. The opening hours are reminiscent of Lords of Shadow almost: painfully, bloody slow and easily the worst part of the game.
