Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

What I really want is a version with cutscenes that aren't compressed garbage and don't match the rest of the game at all. I guess this was only a problem with the PS2/PC versions?

In the tree picture you can see that many of the textures are much better, the tree, Leon's Jacket, and even the fence posts in the background.

The most obvious thing to me? This weird triangle texture right in the middle of the tree.

That second picture looks much worse than the original imo. I don't see why they felt the need to mess with the colors, it looks unnaturally clean.

I think (not sure) this is yet another instance of the stretching issues the game has like we've discussed already about this screenshot (the tree roots): http://cdn4.steampowered.com/v/gfx/...c23eaf137ba26b5282.1920x1080.jpg?t=1390492868

Also notice in this screenshot: http://cdn4.steampowered.com/v/gfx/...4f5ddd280763353be9.1920x1080.jpg?t=1390492868 how the ground texture is nice but gets out of the blue blurry in the part right under Leon's gun.

I wonder if modders will be able to fix that stuff.

It's complicated. Sometimes UV is streched correctly but the use the "terrain" plain object with different sizes and if you can't modifiy individual material configuration, you only can update the texture, but you will see a difference in texel density because is a problem with the "level artist". Another case is the problem with the tree, that's a problem when creating the tree asset and maybe is fixable if you can redo that tree in 3D program and redo how UV is pasted over geometry.

Do we know who did the PS360 ports? Do we know who is doing this port?

RE6 was done by QLOC and RE:Revelations by Tose.

No idea as of yet. Bear in mind Tose were also joint credited with development of RE:Revelations on the 3DS (handheld is really their domain) and that QLOC have ported Capcom's last 3 games at least to PC.

I wonder if this port will have an auto QTE option like RE6 had.

This would actually be pretty nice for people who will be using Dualshocks with 360 input wrappers (which will presumably result in 360 button prompts). I hope people will immediately mod in Playstation button prompts, but just in case they don't...

RE4 has perfect pacing. It's an absolutely gigantic game, yet not a single moment feels like filler or padding. There's nothing tedious or repetitive about RE4. There's no moment where you're replaying and go, "Oh, this part." It's just a perfectly calibrated curve of escalating set-pieces and tightly-tuned encounters. All 10-20 hours of it.

Actually, for me there's one of those: the level with all those Gatling guns. It's probably the weakest in the game.

Preach brother. Amen.

Ok so some of those textures are nicer but what about the ugly ass ground textures?
They are the worst.
Im guessing its too much work to do all the ground?

They should clean them up. Clean them up like in Silent Hill 2 HD.

Team Silent was really messy, couldn't keep dem roads clean :/

So, is "Fixed 60 FPS" Vsync? Why not just include a separate Vsync option?

Edit: Oh, I see an arrow at the bottom of the screen, seems to be more options being obscured.

This always fuckin gets me :lol

Clean streets and no fog is what I imagine Silent Hill is actually like.

Those screens above look pretty nice though. Seems like Capcom is actually doing a good job with this port, I applaud them. Learn something Konami.

It looks OK but the graphics look like they have really aged. This game could use some nicer lighting, shaders and shadow effects. But I suspect that is too much work. However, RE4 is still one of my favourite games ever. Will probably pick this up when I clear my Steam backlog.

Thanks for the links Iron Badger

but the human eye can't see above 24 fps

Magic is gone at 60 FPS

30FPS will Always Deliver Better Story-Telling than 60FPS in Games – Heres Why

All the peeps of the Gaming World have been going crazy over 30 FPS and 60 FPS standards this last year. From 60fps/1080p being thought the new Next Gen standard to Ryse downgrades. But there a point many people are missing, one which i hope to shed some light on today, the point that why 30 FPS cant and shouldn’t ever be replaced with 60fps.

30fps vs 60fps – The Magic of Story Telling Lies in Lower FPS, 30 FPS will always deliver a more “Cinematic” Experience than 60FPS.

I am of course making quite a bold claim and the burden of proof lies with me. One which i am more than willing to shoulder. Let me begin by saying that the minimum limit that our brain needs to perceive moving frames as a seamless entity ( a video) is 24 Frames Per Second. This is one of the reason 99% of Movies are shot at 24 FPS. Though this was originally due to Sound Hardware limitation of Old Cinema, it has now become the Cinematic Standard. The 24 fps of the Cinema Industry is roughly equivalent to the 30 fps standard of the Gaming Industry. When you see a video shot at 24 fps / 30 fps there are holes to fill and your brain automatically does this by literally creating stuff out of your imagination : also known as movie magic. The More frames you increase, the less you brain fills in, the less the “magic”.

Proof of Concept: Hobbit 24 FPS vs 48 FPS analogy to the 30FPS vs 60FPS Gaming Standard

So, Notice how the 48FPS video looks, Sped Up, Weird and almost too Real (in a Bad Way) ? That is called the Soap Opera Effect. Because we grew up in a world where reality tv and soap operas were shot at a higher FPS our brains are now hard wired to associate mundane reality with Higher FPS. And i think you can see now what i meant by our brain filling in the gaps at lower FPS. The Original trailer looks magical and truly “Cinematic”. Of course you might be one of the minority who actually like the sped up, but in my opinion that is probably because of the Novelty Value.

30fps vs 60fps

The more Frames Per Second we increase in our Gaming Standards the less “Magical” they will feel.
I remember when playing Alan Wake (at 30fps) that it felt unbelievably like a movie to me, the sudden attacks of darkness and the way everything was moving about, i wonder if the magic would have been there with 60FPS. If i could clearly see how everything moved – probably not. Likewise in Cinema the Smokes and Mirrors fall away with increased fps – and story telling is all about the illusion. Of course some games would actually benefit from higher frames per second like Racing Games and Fighting Games (Tekken) but Games in which story telling is a main part would do better with the 30FPS Standard.

can you people finally drop this "60fps is better" nonsense

It was in the Tomb Raider thread today.

In case you don't know it was revealed that the PS4 version will run at 60 FPS with some drops, while the One will run at 30 FPS with some drops.

People trying to justify their purchase.

Jesus Christ...I'm glad I just skimmed post that thread.
