Tomb Raider Definitive Edition - PlayStation 4 = ~60fps, Xbox One = ~30fps

I don't get why people are melting down over this. I'm an XBO guy through and through, got three Day One editions and all. I knew EXACTLY what I was in for since E3, and the biggest negative part of that decision is getting the lower quality version of multiplats. I could go into why I picked it anyway, but that's off topic.

This was a great game last gen. XBO users will have a great time at 1080p/30, PS4 users will have as great or better of a time at 1080p/60. Enjoy the game everybody!

A few reasons:

1) At best, we have been done math and it seemed a 50% power difference was in place. IE: If the PS4 ran at 60, we'd expect the XB1 to run at 40. This is bigger deal since it's the first game where it's DOUBLE the frame rate, not just a 50% increase.

2) For months, we had Albert Penello straight up lying to GAF day after day, and he knowingly was paid to deceive people into thinking that the Xbox One games would be the same, if not better. Eventually he got to the point of saying it'd be "single digit" differences and expected an APOLOGY when the difference wasn't that large. He effectively did the opposite of everything he was employed to do. He became a laughing stock here and only contributed to the pile of sadness that is Microsoft's PR kerfuffle. (Whoah, I spelled that word correctly)

3) The literal doubling of the frame rate is basically happening in the first post-launch game. Launch titles are a huge rush to get things playable and out in time, but this had luxury of no fixed launch date, so they had plenty of time to optimize it for both consoles. A common Xbox One hope was that the XDK would improve as time went on to lessen the difference, instead the opposite is happening.

4) Just 2 days ago Crystal Dynamics said both versions ran at 30 FPS, but declined to state it was capped at 30.

So put together shattered expectations, flat out lies, and deceptive PR in such a rapid fashion, and you get this thread of people gloating and freaking.

How fast do you guys think the price will drop on this thing? Because I'm really tempted to get it at 60 now that I know it's 60fps...

watching the stream, kinda kill any idea of me getting this game again. It reminded me I've played this game already. They should have included a extended singleplayer game with 2-3 hours of extra content & I have a feeling this game will be on PSN+ or GWG in a years time. saying that anyone who hasn't played this game, should without a doubt pick this up tho.

How about you wait until people actually shit on that poster before invoking that people shit on such posts that acknowledge the technical differences?

no its not. he's saying he's a big xbox fan, nothing wrong with that. he even mentions that ps4 version is going to be better at 60fps..

I appeared to have been too sarcastic in my response and it clearly flew under the radar. :)

I am agreeing with the poster. The game is going to look great on both consoles, and apparently it'll be smoother on the PS4. It doesn't mean XO gamers are going to have a bad time with it though. We should be spending more time enjoying games together as a community, rather than tearing each other apart. Getting a Definitive Edition of one of the best games of 2013 is a great opportunity for both sides.

Might be a while. It's a recently launched game on a recently launched console. Demand is going to be very high simply because gamers are hungry. The best you'll get is a price glitch.

Probably by the second half of February it might be down to $40 on some weekend sales somewhere.

Trying to set up for a joke here and you guys are giving me nothing...

No, Xbox one owners are getting 30fps less of Tomb Raider. Sounds like a win to me!

....

I'll get my coat.
But with 60 fps you have lower input lag which means quitting out of the game is faster.

There were also objections from other posters about this game being called the definitive edition that had a melt down, which lead to bans. I'm fine with calling it that (even the 30fps version) because I can play this version in my hotel.

So I searched but it's never mentioned if any gameplay has changed, I mean all I want is the hard mode to be a bit of a challenge.

I got Forza 5 for like $40 in late December. I imagine by March 1sr TR will be $40. On like amazon at least.

I don't like this. I really hope this turns out to be wrong :/

I remember his blog post from last year... he really knew what what going to happen well before we had an idea where both were going to officially land. If what he see's as the xbone being an anchor being true, lets hope that was in a scenario where the bone would be leading the console race and being the lead platform... now that is looking less and less likely it will happen now, so hopefully that scenario doesn't play out in such fashion and we get the best games made to take full advantage of the ps4's hardware.

I dunno, discounts have been plentiful for the launch game lineup.

1. Higher resolution of this.

2. A bish shop...

man, this has been an epic day.

edit;

nm, the resolution is fine for a xbone thread.

I don't think your initial point was correct (the consensus was that it was a good game; generally considered somewhat of a return to form of the series [high reviews, high sales relative to the series]), but people were really way too harsh on you and some of them bordered on insulting. Sorry you got a bad impression of the community, that's not how we hope discussions unfold here.

Yes i admit "consensus" was a poor choice of wording. The game is getting alot of attention now is all. Even outside GAF. I should of left it at Coulomb_Barrie's post.

Anybody's stream low quality? It was good for a moment but now it's a blocky mess.

But based on this quote in the OP "Our sources have not confirmed exactly, but our own extrapolation of the information suggests you might say the average (accurate use of the term) Xbox One performance could be ~35fps, meanwhile the average PlayStation 4 performance may be ~55fps." Isn't it possible we ARE seeing that 50% power advantage almost perfectly? Say it was 36fps vs. 54 fps on average, that's exactly 50% more (and a clear, noticable advantage for the PS4 version.)

Yes. That can be interpreted like that. Unfortunately from all the first hand responses so far, you're comparing an upper limit to a lower limit. And the PS4's lower limit isn't hit as much as the Xbox One's upper limit.

The author of that article is being very conservative with what he says. He tested big vistas and intense combat scenarios and it only slightly dipped. But that's all you can do at a preview event where you can't play through the whole game.

And the higher than 30fps part was in a very simple scenario. So you have reasonable best case vs. reasonable worst case at a preview event.

Half price in 3 months with some sales in between.

I'll wait to pick this up around next Christmas when I plan on getting a PS4. By then it'll be dirt cheap.
