It may sound absurd but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream
It's not easy to be me...

Double career slam...not even Federer managed to do this. And do you guys know why? Because he is not the GOAT.

At the end of his career he will have over 20 GS titles and over 30 masters titles. Nobody will ever reach that.

No, Roger is safely entrenched in top 8 for the time being.
(isn't Norwegian completely different than Finnish? speakig Finnish, Norwegian and English sounds pretty badass I must say :))

Not really, most kids in Finland learn Swedish in school, which is very similar to Norwegian. The smooth baritone of a Norwegian oil baron seemed nicer than the slightly shrill Swedish hipster they had commentating. Danish was also available, which is fine if you want to feel like you're watching a potato eating competition... he he he.

If I had just one wish
Only one demand
I hope he's not like me
I ope he understands
That he can take this life
And hold it bythe hand
And he can greet the world
With arms wide open

I don't think Nadal will get to 20 slams personally. As for the GOAT, it's still Federer, but Nadal is getting close. The head to head is a major plus and covers his poor performance in the World Tour Finals. So, if he gets to 16-17 slams and Fed is still stuck on 17, it becomes a real interesting debate. It's just amazing that Nadal came along just about the time that Federer was about to achieve total and complete dominance in the game; he would have easily won 4-5 French Open titles by now.

I think my favourite year of tennis since I've been watching was maybe 2008, where you saw Nadal wrestle away that Wimbledon title and number one spot from Federer. It was titanic, and, boy, did Federer make him work hard for it. That was when their rivalry felt most special. It was a pleasure to watch.

He has alrdy 13 and this will be his 14th. And then only 2-3 till the end? Only if Djokovic wins them all. Chance of 0% that this will happen.

He'll probably win, but lets not discount Stan, eh. He's spent the last few days watching videos of Tyson vs. Douglas for inspiration. As for Nadal's future slam prospects, he does have form for pushing himself until his body breaks down and injuries occur. He'll be 28 this year and it's not going to get any easier for him. Personally, I hope he does get to, at least, 17 slams, I'm just slightly skeptical about his prospects.

I'm torn on who I want to win. On one hand, I want to see Nadal equal Sampras. But, on the other, it would be fantastic if Wawrinka won. He's fast become one of my new favourite players.

I don't see any new player that will break the domination of Nadal and Djokovic. I think they will win like last year 8 of 9 masters and 3 of 4 Grand Slams. And there is just nobody that could stop this till they both retire.

10+ GS and 25+ Masters for Djokovic and 20+ GS and 30+ Masters for Nadal till retirement :D

Masters aren't that big of a deal. It's Grand Slams first that matter, then maybe YECs and YE#1s, followed by things like career Grand slams, gold medals and weeks at #1. Number of masters is just a nice bonus.

Really, it all comes down to slams and if Nadal can tie or pass Fed, he will take the GOAT title.

Yeah yeah I get it. It only matters if Federer has the best score, right? -.-

What a bullshit, sorry. Tennis is not only 8 weeks/year.

Just the way it has always been. Sorry if that upsets you. Most people didn't consider Fed better than Pete until he got close to his slam record either.

IMO he was alrdy GOAT after his 9 GS titles at the end of 2006. And now it's alrdy Nadal IMO.

But ok. Next year Nadal will have 17 GS, I would bet my whole money :D

Yes and that's what rankings are there for to reflect on the last 52 weeks.
As of now, 302 weeks at #1 > 119 weeks at #1
Hoarding a huge number of MS1000 on clay is great but not all there is to the tennis season.

183 weeks...no problem for Nadal if Djokovic stays number 2 :P

Here's a truck stop instead of St. Peter
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
If you believed they put a man in the moon
Man on the moi.
If you believe there's nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is cool

:( :( :(

Just watched the match. Well, most of it. I think Fed finally decided to change things up a little to counter Rafa with all of the approaches. Too bad it didn't happen 5 years ago.

Nadal is Fed's kryptonite. Always has been. How can he be GOAT if he can't beat his rival?
Because tennis isn't about h2h... it's about the tournaments and how you do against the field. It's on Nadal that he couldn't make the finals outside clay when Fed was at the top of his game. The h2h would be much more even if Nadal and Fed were playing off of clay a lot more 5+ years ago so it's a silly stat to look at. Nadal is also a bad matchup for Fed with his one handed backhand.

Do you think Nadal will be in top 10 5 years from now when he is 32; if he is then he will be goat , if he is not then he wont be

Federer was at his peak 5 years ago and nadal is not.
Nadal is not? After his comeback and winning 2/4 GS and 5/9 masters and on sunday 3 of the last 4 GS tournaments with over 15.000 ATP points?

I agree H2H isn't all about GOAT. Nadal's accomplishments are a bit inflated with his clay dominance and when he started improving on other surfaces Federer had already peaked.

Federer will always have that lack of success against Nadal but there's his long semi-final streak and the consecutive weeks at number 1. Sure you can argue that he had "lesser" competition but he never lost to a Rosol or Soderling in his prime.

or Darcis

Men's slams are too easy for the faves, the five setter is an upset-safe pillow to travel on. Stefi Graf is the real GOAT.

Also, Nadal is one match away from completing a DOUBLE grand slam. Fed won't achieve that.
Fed was one match away from achieving that many times, but yeah, if Nadal wins tomorrow it will be a unique achievement that only he will have.

Also he will have a double CAREER grand slam. No male tennis player has achieved a real Grand Slam (4 in a row in a Calendar year) in the Open era. The only female to do it was Graf I think, so yeah, it is easy to say Graf is women's tennis GOAT.

Hard to say how much bonus points having a career grand slam gives you. Agassi had one and Sampras didn't, and nobody put Agassi even close to Sampras in greatness level.
