The Legend of Korra: Book Two – Spirits |OT| Korra Ain't Number Wan

Just finished watching the older series, and holy shit I never watched a show quite like this. It was beautiful in just about every area. Then I started to watch The Legend of Korra.

Not on Season 2 yet. I'm like 4 episodes in Book 1. While I like it, its not as good as the last Avatar with Aang. Why couldn't they just go 10 years or so into the future with Aang and all the familiar faces? Don't like how modern everything is with cars and big buildings.

"Howdy, friends. I haven’t posted in a while as I’ve been buried under deadlines as well as under the weather. We are all really excited with how Book 3 is turning out. As promised, it features a lot more Lin Beifong than Book 2, so I thought I’d share a cool screen shot of her. OK, I’m going to crawl back underneath my deadlines and cough."

Hopefully Ling starts acting a bit smarter this time around in Book 3

I saw the bump and read the last few recent posts....and I just realized i don't remember a single interesting thing in the korra season 2 finale. At all.

Wow that season was forgettable

Tenzin and family traveling into the Spirit World to save Jinora

I feel torn. I loved Lin in Book One but absolutely despised her in Book 2. It felt like they forgot about her plot progression in the first season and made her an angry buffoon in Book 2 just for the sake of plot convenience. So I hope they don't ruin her in Book 3 or do some crazy bullshit with Toph and her father.

Still, I'm actually excited to get back to Republic City and focus on other characters. Kind of strange read back that sentence. But yeah I'm actually excited to get back to Republic City. We need more stability in location and less plot arcs for this show to work.

I think one thing we can all agree about on Legend of Korra is that the score is just fantastic

There are a lot of things good about both Korra seasons, music being one of them, but the end product was never a sum of its parts.

I think individual components of the series, from animation quality (from Mir, at least) to character design, audio, voice talent and so on were all great. Even the ideas that underpin the seasons are great. I just don't think any of it came together particularly well.

Hopefully they'll address the brain leach she had infesting her all season.

How many terrorist attacks happened under her watch and went completely unpunished or even investigated?

Aang's kid can't teach airbending or go into the spirit world.

Toph's kid can't police her way out of a paper bag and only has her job due to nepotism.

Leave Sokka and Zuko's seed out of it. No more hitjobs.

I just finished watching the finale to Avatar: the last Airbender for the very first time and man... what a show! Probably my all time favorite cartoon show (and i say this as a 35 year old man who has watched a TON of great cartoon shows in his life so far).

So i checked in here to see whether the sequel show would be coming close to Avatar in quality and sadly it seems that... the general consensus seems to be that it's kind of good in certain aspects but overall pretty "fragmented" and doesn't form a cohesive whole? Is that right? In that case would you guys say at this point it's worth watching still or should i leave it at this and call it day? hmmm...

It's worth watching, but don't expect it to be on the same level as the first series.

Maybe give it a bit of time between the two of them.

At this point, other than the good animation (well, when Mir is on the job anyway), there is little of value to discern from Korra. You can watch it if you really, really need to kill several hours, but to be honest, you're better off just considering the series to have ended with TLA. Having seen what they've done to the world of Avatar, I certainly do.

The "Beginnings" episodes are great, you should watch those and probably not bother with the rest of the show.

Godfather 3 that shit. I agree.

Korra is good. Might not be as good as TLA, but skipping it would be a mistake if you're a fan of that series. Some of the episodes like the Wan ones are some of the best episodes from both series.

I wish they would use that art style for the whole series. Also, they weren't. So apprehensive about killing in the flashbacks.

Btw, if anyone wants to see what an actually good Avatar origin story would be like, I recommend this.

I read this before Korra came out, and it was the perfect origin myth for the Avatar. It's short enough that you can finish it in 5 minutes, if not less. It's fairy tale prose is perfect for the story it is trying to tell and you could almost hear Iroh or Aang voice telling you this story while you sit and listen like a child. And best of all, everything Korra has forgotten about what spirituality and bending actually mean, this remembers. To explain it in any more detail than that would be basically spoiling what is a very short story to begin with, but read it, and you will see what I mean.

It is true that Korra is not at the level of Avatar, but I thought it was a good show. I think when you watch it consecutively you won't mind some of its lesser aspects, because you haven't hyped yourself up for something amazing or stewed for a week about the missteps.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while, but I'm glad I got to see the new pic from season 3. Hope more info comes soon. Who is making the season 3 thread? And of course I can't resist commenting on two things:

Korra presented a fine origin story for the Avatar. Just so we're clear here to people who haven't yet watched the show, Veelk's opinion is easily in the minority - based on the reactions in the thread at the time, most people did seem to enjoy the origin story. Thats not to write off Veelks opinion mind you - he's entitled to it. But the general consensus on here (and on Reddit) was that the episodes were awesome. Maybe not perfect, but top notch.

I agree. Make no mistake, Korra is what the original show wasn't: flawed. But it has some very high highs and overall was still enjoyable for me.

RE: Season 2, in particular. I had an excellent conversation with Azula on this, and he raised some solid points on why he didn't enjoy the season. Many of them I agreed with. And yet, despite the flaws, I still enjoyed the season. Weird, maybe - but I think the good parts shine through the mistakes.

Who is making the season 3 thread?

I've claimed the OT again. While Book Two was disappointing in parts, I liked it enough. Plus I still have faith -- whether misguided or not -- that they can pull a good season out of the hat.

As always, any help appreciated, but there's not much to do at this point until we have a date and some info regarding the season.

i'd skip it if you haven't started it yet. I'm sticking it out but i'm not really sure why to be honest.

Count in me in the tiny group that didn't like Beginnings.

Heck. I think at this point we should just be happy she's in season 3, but I guess someone's gotta get back together with Mako.

They have mechs in their world right? Just drop asami and create asami-mech who only shows up every 3 episodes to spice things up between Korra and Mako.

Would serve the same purpose in the end but they get to save money on animating asami-mecha by making her 3D.

I was hoping they would basically start from scratch with side characters and have a new cast for book 3. Instead Korra-Mako will be teased throughout the whole season and every second of it will be awful.

...why... why would they do that?

Because anything narrative-related with Mako was awful? Because after they made it clear (lol) that Mako and Korra weren't gonna be together that they're suddenly gonna travel together despite him having a job in Republic City? Because apparently Asami is gonna be with them and have her character shit on again?

Obviously we don't know many details but they're basically keeping what I hated in season 2.

Holy crap! This thread is still (sort of) alive? Cool. Here's the last pic of Bolin and vampire Pabu from Bryan's tumblr:

[Picture was suppose to go here]

We sure are seeing a lot of Bolin. What does it mean?I really hope they do a better job with Mako, Bolin, and Asami in Book 3. Upon reflecting back on Book 2, I am mostly ok with Korra's arc (Big Blue Korra and Star Wars balance notwithstanding). Most of my problems lie with the rest of rest of "team" Avatar and the pointlessness of the Republic City/Verrick Plot. If they can't figure out what to do with these three, then they should be axed from the show. I don't want that, cause I liked all three (to different degrees) in Book 1, but each one actually got worse (especially Bolin) over the course of Book 2.

I know I am a damn fool, but all these Book 3 photos are getting me hyped, even if I'm still feeling a bit burned by Book 2. At the rate that Bryan is dumping these pics, it seems that we might no be that far off from the premiere date.

Edit: Well damn, this is embarrassing. I done screwed up with the photo. Just click this link if you care.
