PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

I love Soul Sacrifice and disliked my short experience with MH, mostly because it felt clunky (due to the controls) and slow. From what I have played of the Toukiden demo, I am not sold on it either.
The "clunkyness" of control, I guess it are coming from hardware limitation. You could see that from how aiming with bow works. I seriously couldn't understand this since Capcom is one of the main party who pushes Nintendo on releasing CPP, yet the camera control works like using d-pad instead of circle-pad/analog stick.
One thing Toukiden does better than SS that is completely undeniable is graphics though, Soul Sac looks like dog shit in comparison. DAT NATIVE RES HNNNNNNG
I bought MonHun3U on WiiU, expecting something similar, what I got is PS2 level of textures. Capcom just gonna capcom by reusing 3DS assets I guess.
Sounds like you didn't spend too much time with MH. The crafting/exploring thing is nearly completely limited to the tutorial sections of each game.

As someone who likes both MH and GE styles of hunting game a lot the biggest thing that sets them apart for me is that MH requires far more spacing, precision, and commitment to each swing to play skillfully. GE style games give bosses more lenient windows of opening, hence the "mashing" and usually you can roll/dodge cancel out of attacks instantly due to shorter animations. It's kind of analogous to Dark Souls vs Devil May Cry.
This explians the stlye difference between those two games really well. SS faster pace mean that bosses will have more attack in shorter timeframe, which requires you "button mash" every moment possible when window of opportunity appeared. While the "button mash" could fairly describe on how you attack, it does not on how you play due to afromentioned reasons, doge/rolling mashing wouldn't get you anywhere. Especially against fast bosses like Wyvern, Valkyrie, or Wraith.
What I completely agree with you on and understand though is that MH isn't instantly fun. Faster paced style hunting games throw you into it right away and you can easily adapt due to the leniency and similarity to other action games. MH has a long long learning curve (10+ hours) your first time and boring tutorial fights at the beginning.
It's very boring and slow, I'm still getting trouble getting into it because of that reason.

This is bullshit. Tired of the Mickey Mouse network infrastructure. Just wanted to come home and play games after a long day. Fucking Sony.

It really isn't. It probably just isn't for you.

I must be one of the few people who LOVE the animations in MH. When playing Toukiden I miss having to sharpen my blade and take potions. It adds another element of tension to the battle as finding the right moment to sharpen without leaving the area feels great. Carving as well. Carving is so much more satisfying than the purification system in Toukiden.

Firmware downloaded! Time for Outla... Store down?

The slowness and boringness that I meant is the introduction itself, not the gameplay. I'm also have difficulty getting into Toukiden due to how it's very different from SS, but I can get to there quick because faster introduction, characters, and story. I'm still have a big hope and I'll keep playing it until my first big game hunt.

Introductions in MH kind of suck for people who have played a lot of the series but for a first time player they're pretty much necessary I think. There are a lot more mechanics to go over than in games like Toukiden. And even Toukiden didn't go over the mechanics well enough, I play with a lot of people online who don't know the basics of the mechanics like how purification works etc.

Yeah, but now it won't let me download the damn thing.

Outlast? Yeah, it is dirt slow. It says I have 3 hours left, and it should be like less than half an hour with my connection.

This is gonna be a long gen if they don't invest in their network. I'm not going back to Xbox One because that thing is under baked at best, but this is unacceptable. Sony is not competitive with this kind of stuff.

Yeah, finally got it working. I don't have any patience for this nonsense. Especially after getting home from work.

Anyone have something to say about Castle Storm? Looks like they have a complete bundle on sale this week.

Took about 20 minutes to download Outlast, not bad at all. Feel bad for some of you guys with bad connection environments.

I think it is good lighthearted fun. Know that you can also use the touchpad to aim/cheat.

Angry birds + swords and soldiers.

Right mix of simple and fun for me, bought the dlc too.

Nampad really didn't like it.

Anyone played Metro The Last Light on PS3? What's it like in comparison to, say, RAGE (which I snagged for $3 the other day, just for the hell of it)?

And that why, kids, demos could make more harm than good (Dustforce vita).

Kinda sad really, I liked the core game, but the framerate hiccups are annoying. I haven't experienced the sound bug, though. But the good thing is that is not that frequent and some stages works 60fps virtually all the time, and so could be fixed with a patch.

Even so, gonna wait for a 75% sale.

Damnit, I bought the Vita version of Dustforce by accident, was trying to get the PS3 version... nooooo

I thought Dustforce was a crossbuy game? Said so in the DF post on Playstation blog.

EDIT: my mistake. I guess it's not afterall. Sorry!

can't use the webstore. rargh.

edit: so when do we start calling out Atlus for clearly abusing the sale category on the store

Today was really odd. I was able to connect to PS3 PSN store and download Metro no problem. It took me almost 4 hours to be able to connect to the PS4 store. Also, through that time, could not connect to PSN period so couldn't play Fifa online or Battlefield. Server overload maybe?

Really...ouch. And i was about to blindly buy it...holding off for now or will at least try the demo.

I downloaded the update and now it is saying this service is not available in your area when I try to go to the store. Grrr I was really excited to try a new game. Hope it is up soon.

Sounds good enough for me. I just want something simple in between my bigger gaming buffets.

This crap is unacceptable now that they're requiring PS+ for multiplayer. I've never had these kind of issues on PSN before ( aside from when it was down due to the hack).

The issues on dustforce arent that terrible, the audio bug is disheartening since it's BGM is wonderful, but the slowdown isnt entirely gamebreaking for me yet. I'm still on the early levels however.

I've been watching the Bill Nye Vs Creationism debate and I've been playing levels everytime Ken Ham opens his mouth.
