Physical Releases - News & Discussion Corner |OT| Physical Games Are Dead, Long Live Physical Games

For anyone that wants a proper physical release of Doom the dark ages, forget it. Both the ps5 and xbox version only contain 85MB of data on the disc, you have to download the full game. The full game is 85GB, would easily fit a ps5 disc.

I wont be buying any Microsoft published game anymore because of these practices.
Garbage company.

They need to give up on printing their own physical and just allow a third party to do it. I don't care if I have to pay more for a proper 2 disc release.

I'm afraid Sony will also follow this trend soon, they just want to kill physical with a painful death. I hate this world.

Me too. It really sucks that this is the trend. I don't see physical fully going away, instead I see it becoming more like vinyl is, or one-off art posters, etc, where we'll see bespoke physicals coming for certain titles, particularly indie titles, but the vast major will be digital only, or a case with a code bullshit, etc.

The only way to push back against this, hard, is to avoid buying it altogether. They WANT you to defer to the digital edition by intentionally limiting the physical one. The only reason they are even releasing a disc is because they saw how hard Alan Wake 2 sales got hit going digital only.

Doom looks great, maybe I'll buy a digital version under $10. No way I'm paying full price for a single player disc key code release. I don't care if I can transfer ownership or not with a virtual game card equivalent, it's an unnecessary incomplete release.

If publishers want us to embrace a digital only future, they can embrace their audience paying next to nothing for the games.

Big haul recently:

Clair obscur: expedition 33
No more heroes 3
Ultra age
Valkyrie elysium
a.o.

I'd wager they're doing it deliberately to nudge people into thinking physical is an unattractive option. Its basically their way of slowly killing off the physical format and push people into their fenced digital domain. Same applies to the rest of the publishers who are doing this. They don't want to cause an immediate uproar so they chose the slow route instead.

Sooo....Does anyone know why WB Games is re-releasing this collection in less than 2 weeks? Is this the "Return to Arkham" versions of Asylum/City or the original ports/art? Just a very odd, random, under the radar physical release...

Edit: Hopefully this means they have plans to "fix" Arkham Knight for the Switch 2

This is weird.
It still doesn't have Arkham Knight on disc, just like the old release.

Great! Just like the I-II-III release. I will get the same this time again.

Looks like Clear River Games will do physical releases for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in the European market. I might finally grab a copy since I didn't want to get one through LRG or import one from PlayAsia since I didn't felt like it was worth the shipping & import fees.

Just spotted this on my twitter feed as well, never ordered something so far as i have been wishing that thank goodness you're here would be given a physical switch release by someone. Hoping it's not a wait over a yer affair as i have only ever ordered a book from them before and that took quite a while to finally be completed & arrive but it does look like they are putting in the effort on presentation of the games they chose but not cheap at £60

Nice! Will probably going to buy a lot of their standard edition releases that they'll print and distribute through PMStudios, especially since they'll be available through retailers.

.

Edit: VGP already have all the Lost in Cult standard editions up for pre-order on their website.

This is awesome.
I have to admit that these games aren't exactly to my taste, but the direction they're taking is exactly what I've been hoping for.
It really sounds like they're trying to do everything right. Now I just hope that in the future, some titles make it into their lineup that are more up my alley.

SUPERDELUXE once again putting parent company LRG to shame:

Tomba Deluxe Edition - ¥7,181 (~$50) on Amazon JP, lower price if you don't care about the Amazon exclusive digital wallpaper lol

Castlevania Dominus Collection - ¥8,360 (~$58) on Amazon JP (sans digital wallpaper price)

All three Castlevania collections are now available to pre-order with the deluxe treatment on Amazon JP now. Remember that combined shipping on Amazon JP massively decreases the shipping costs and they will still ship out each item as it becomes available.

Patapon 1+2 Replay is also now available for pre-order on Amazon ES for €34,99 (~$40). I have no idea if it will be available on other regional EU stores yet but i'd assume so. It's been confirmed not to be getting a US physical run for the time being.

Seems like Syberia remastered physical is confirmed. Preorder available on Amazon in my country. I'm waiting for more content details.

Arrived from Japan

Next interesting title from LRG.
Unless it's a true LRG exclusive (i.e. a numbered release) there's litterally no point/advantage in going with them. You will most likely get the game a month or 2 after it's major retail release

My latest pickups :)

Nice picks! Btw, why do you have 2 copies of Gris Deluxe? Not that you shouldn't, mind you, I'm just curious.

I personally have it on 3 systems as well, including this new PS5 Deluxe physical version, and I also snagged their other recent physical release, Neva Deluxe.

Thanks.
Stupid story... I bought the game from PNPGames because I think the cover with the ESRB logo looks the nicest and most minimal.
Unfortunately, they shipped the game loose in a padded envelope all the way around the globe, so - as you can see with the lower copy - five corners are damaged and dented.

I could have returned it, but I would've had to cover the shipping costs. In the case of an exchange, I would've also had to deal with customs fees (again), and there was no guarantee that the replacement would arrive in better condition.

So I bit the bullet and bought a PEGI version from a local store - no damage this time.

Oh man, that's a bummer to hear. And yeah, returning it would have been a bit of a pain since PNP is located all the way in Canada and you'd have to deal with customs, etc.. so I guess it is what it is. :lollipop_pensive:

Thanks! Awesome that you'll add this one to your collection as well. I'm actually glad they've done a wide release through retailers for both of these deluxe versions. Grabbed them both immediately.

Everybody's Golf Hot Shots aka Everybody's Golf World is up for pre-order on Play-Asia.

Looks like JP and Asian versions for both PS5 and Switch will be available. I'm hoping there is a way to get the Pac Man digital pre-order DLC with the physical copy.

Code in a box - such unbelievably useless editions, they simply produce garbage here and transport it all over the world.

I am so glad that there is some form of physical at least, even if I have to import it to get it.

Sad state of affairs for physical releases on Xbox, specifically for titles published by the XGS arm of Microsoft.

UwhrDpp.png

I would hold off on the physical copies of Gears and NG4 until we know if they need a download to work. Indiana Jones was a download stub on a disc, a 20gb stub but a stub nonetheless. I suspect THPS3+4 will be the same as the box says it requires an internet connection for content download.

Looks like Cronos: The New Dawn (Bloober's next horror game) is getting a physical release for PS5

Skybound Games will distribute a physical edition of third-person survival horror game Cronos: The New Dawn for PlayStation 5 in the Americas, developer Bloober Team announced.

"Skybound is a partner with exceptional competences in the field of global game distribution (it was responsible for the physical release of The Calisto Protocol, among others)," said Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno in a press release. "We are glad that we can develop this partnership with Cronos: The New Dawn. This is our strongest original title and we know that it will be another big step in the development of the Bloober Team Group. Boxed distribution is an important element of our distribution strategy and marketing mix."

The rather fun & unusual puzzler the pedestrian finally been granted a physical release via SRG. Had it on PS4 and i loved it. Was an instant purchase for me

Another example of Physical gaming superiority.
Death Stranding 2 (base preorder, not deluxe)

92$ on psn.
76$ physical with free delivery to parcel box NEXT to my house. Possibly day early(I hope). No brainer
