So in a year, there will be rumor threads again comparing Xbox Next vs PS6, tflops, AI tops, etc... like in 2019 with Oberon and Xbox, how time flies xDD.
What does a factory look like that burns data to millions of discs. Does a person then physically place the disc into a case?
I dont think there is much they can do unless they went to pay up and renegotiate. Dont they delist theirnown games sometimes? Like some forza games
Can believe @KeplerL2 for those who don't like me saying things
In response to
And I have been on the hybrid bandwagon for quite awhile but there will also be a traditional console
I'm totally up for adoption. Just saying.
No matter what Xbox attempts at this point they are doomed, that ship has sailedWell they can try another traditional console if they want. But without actual software exclusives, and without some subsidization approach (due to the brand being perceived lesser MS'd have to subsidize more vs. SIE or Nintendo simply to attract similar attention beyond their shrinking diehard fanbase), it's going to fail.
Just point blank, it's going to fail. So a new console only works out for them if it's closer to a PC/console hybrid leaning on Windows for main function, but with an even better version of what the ROG Xbox Ally is doing, and maybe some dual-boot option to an Xbox OS partition with the Xbox Store removed.
At least that's how I see it :/. But hey, we'll see what MS does, because they'll probably start talking about it officially next year.
Let's pray for new retro consoles. They might save physical media.
Hopefully.

They might as well rip the bandaid and just announce killing the console division
Seems so. One day all console manufacturers will be all digital only and there will always be a percantage of people being pissed about it.So they are okay with abandoning the wishes of 20% of their userbase?
Yes. It is the 21st century after allSeems so. One day all console manufacturers will be all digital only and there will always be a percantage of people being pissed about it.
Sure, there will be an expensive (probably $100) bluray addon for PS6, which itself will do more to kill physical than any "benefits" digital brings.Last for Xbox anyway. Obviously Nintendo still supports physical for another generation and I expect the same will be true of PlayStation.

Nice to have, but why pay $100 when you could just about buy a single Nintendo game for Switch 2 with that money.
Individuals can do what they want, but if there is still a drive available for PS6 then clearly Sony thinks there is enough demand to warrant it. I'm sure they would much rather be all digital by now.
I think the idea is that Sony will soak people who will stick with physical.
And since the main reason people still do physical is to get the game cheaper...
"Play Anywhere" will become "Play on PC ONLY"
But it doesn't necessitate them releasing physical options in every country. One wonders if PS fans in the US (for example) might be faced with having to import a PS6 disc drive and the discs for any game they wish to own physically. Interesting times ahead.Shawn Layden recently made the point that the global reach of PlayStation necessitates physical media options.

It's for people who don't like to be tied to corporate masters and their digital storefronts like slaves. It's for people who want choices and options when buying/selling their games. It's for people who value preservation. So, this is for the folks that just love to have useless plastic boxes for the shelf?Just buy the digital version, LOL.

The vast majority of games I play, I play once and I'm done. After that they sit uselessly in my gaming library. At least I can sell those "plastic boxes".
I don't think you can sell the boxed copies that just have the digital code, one-time use in my experience. I understand the value of the disks, but not these. If they are on sale at a retailer sure, but other than that I don't see it.

There is literally ZERO advantage to buying a game digitally outside of the convenience of disc/card swapping.
It is also equally important to be in every distribution channel possible, It's Sony's DNA. Sony Music still sells CDs/LPs and Sony movies are avaliable on every platform, including blu-ray.Shawn Layden recently made the point that the global reach of PlayStation necessitates physical media options.
I think Sony will make the digital console the standard for PS6.Not for long.
This is the last generation for physical games, outside of some niche releases.
Yes. It is the 21st century after all
