I don't know why everyone is beating this drum so much. Like yeah the big conflict between the two foreign countries is an obvious Israel/Palestine reference but there really isn't any illegal immigration commentary in the film. I mean not without grasping for a lot of straws and desperately wanting it to be there anyway.

As a comic book reader, i will see saturday.
Gunn is a good choice for this movie, not perfect but from all others who have been working on this genre, he is probably the guy who like comic stuff and understand the characters.
I would fear if for some dumb reason they chose Taika on it.

Shocked that this apparently isn't a complete mess because the lead-up was dreadful.

Jeremy Jahns points this out as well, the marketing did way more harm than it did good.

Now let's see if the scores result in box office success.

I wonder what word we would use to describe an orphan arriving from another country (planet!).

Like, the fact is Lex Luthor is well known throughout his existence in all of Superman's media of decades and decades to use Superman's existence as a foreign alien (it's just in this instance alien means an extraterrestrial person) against him and tries to convince the public not to trust this non-human being.

And yes, Lex has dipped his hands in actual politics, even becoming President for a while in the comics back in the 2000s. I guarantee you, while Lex would generally prefer to kill Superman, he would definitely still take satisfaction in having him deported from Earth through any means necessary.

To be honest it's kind of a weird movie to market. Which is odd considering this is Superman were talking about but the way it plays out is very unorthodox.

I am really looking forward to seeing this. Reviews seem good, I am a big fan of DC and I hope this delivers. I have really liked all James Gunn's output in the superhero genre.

I'll be watching this next week. Even if there would be some immigrant politics in this it'd basically be Gunn saying that we need to be kinder to white and upstanding immigrants. So the wokeness negates itself.

I really hope it's the wild ride reviewers claim it is. I was going to watch F1 instead at first, but it's only shown in the small cinema halls and I want my big screen movies on the biggest available.

Just saw couple reviews from Czech outlets (that I trust) and they eviscerated it. One guy (who is such a movie buff that he writes books about films) called it the "worst Superman film, and I saw Superman 4". Kinda hilarious tbh.

I'm (surprisingly) waiting for Angry Joe's take on this one.

Guy loves Superman more than anyone I know, so I think he'll be more judgemental than most and won't pull any punches.

Seems ok from what I see. Probably gonna give a chance.

I agree but at the same time the guy is a chicken and gets extremelly defensive. If theres a negative thing he thinks its not worth mention(not because it is not, but because he is scared of repercution) then he will not, regardless if its a big factor for most of people.
That Ironheart review was painful too watch, way too much soy.

I was watching The Rookie and season 3 has so much political bullshit that I just stopped watching it. I think I'll go watch this for the action scenes.

That's not really what he said. He had some criticisms but he generally like it

I mean he didn't hate it but "It'd be better if you are drunk" is pretty much his "mid" score, and it's not like he is a super harsh critic.

"There's some enjoyment in this movie for sure but a lot of the support characters feel one dimension as hell, and the out of place James Gunn humor just killed a lot more than it added in this movie, so it'd probably be a better time....if you are drunk"
That's literally his closing remark on the movie.

So yeah, IMO he didn't particularly like it (which doesn't mean he hated it)

They are refugees, or if adopted they become citizens.

Immigrants are presumably coming voluntarily, to join family, look for work, to study. But REFUGEES are fleeing a dangerous situation. And orphans, ir at least children, being adopted, they become citizens.

Regardless, its a weird way to describe Superman. He is ALIEN, and given his power (and the power of any like him that come here) a certain amount of xenophobia is understandable, if not warranted. BUT since Superman left krypton as an infant, he has no real notion of kryptonian culture and learns NOTHING about it till later in life. He is 100% corn fed Midwestern AMERICAN in his ideals and beliefs

THIS is the key to superman, he has virtually unlimited power, but his basic upbringing instilled the humanity, decency, and humility that we might consider the best of American. He doesn't have kryptonian ideas that he has to integrate into America, or force America to bend to accommodate him. He is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of recent immigration where trying to blend into the domestic culture is tossed away and the 'immigrants' just export their failed culture with them. He represents a much older notion of what immigration should be to the extent that he touches on that concept at all. As an infant refugee adoptee virtually none of the immigration issues actually touch on him. In fact, since the Fortress of Solitude is commonly shown to be in the Arctic, he really isn't even an American at all, he's basically on an overextended work visa as Clark Kent (if we were to try to pound these ridiculous notions into a comic).

Kara, coming here to do a job (watch over Kal-el), and having a childhood on krypton, is much more an immigrant.

Rookie improves-slightly- in season 4 onwards but I got midway into season 5, maybe 6, when I realized the Nolan character was totally sidelined for all the girl power characters and it transitioned from an amusing somewhat positive cop show into full blown soap opera with more focus on pregnancies, weddings, and first dates than any cop stuff.

Plus they never improved the sloppy CGI laden gun fights, if anything they cut the budget.

It was fun seeing all the cameos from Castle and Bones actors. And Ali Larter...hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg. she good on Landman as well.

Watched the movie yesterday, really liked it, but it's so weird how James Gunn likes to put sex crazed women in this movies lmao

Thanks. I dont have the patience anymore after Season 3. Does Stana Katic make a cameo too? I had a huuuge crush on her. She looked adorable in S1 of Castle.

I mean, at the very least Cat Grant from the Daily Planet is usually that way in the comics. So that's on point.

Lois in the trailers did seem like a passionate kisser. I'd be shocked if Hawkgirl was like what you're saying, like maybe she can have an interest in Superman and/or Mr. Terrific, but she better not feel that way towards Guy Gardener (as in the comics, Ice is the only superheroine who can tolerate and have feelings for him, though to be fair Guy generally does tone down his attitude when she's talking to him compared to almost anyone else he interacts with).

What generation are you referring to exactly? The comics have been around since the 1930s, the TV series since the 1950s, and movies since the 1970s.
I can't speak to those times. I'm old, but I wasn't there. But I've seen enough clips of these dime-a-dozen superhero movies, and I can say that it's truly disheartening how much this endless, infantile slop is consumed.

Little Vyse was only 11 years old when the first Christopher Reeve Superman came out and it left quite an impression!

Sure, everyone's seen those. Those were pretty good movies. The key difference is, they've made a genre out of this - and it's a genre which is getting increasingly embarrassing and ridiculous. And people are taking this nonsense way too seriously.

We can only hope, because that Ironheart review was a shitshow.

You mean a Karen?

Angry Joe reviews for games and movies usually spot on. Unlike a ton of short reviews which the person might not even had played the game or watched the movie, you can tell he and his buddies experienced it by the huge amount of detail they dissect in their 30-60 minute reviews. So they arent bullshitting a review.

Only problem is for games reviews which take time to play, it might be two weeks before his video comes out. But movies can be done right away of course.

Not that I've seen. I heard she and Fillion HATED each other though, so no surprise. Susan Sullivan (played Castles mom) doesnt appear either so who knows why these folks are showing up or not.

Agreed, but I think with Superman it is way too close to his heart for him to be able to pull any punches. I'm watching his review right now and I think the way he talks about the movie speaks volumes, way more than whatever number he gives at the end. I'll say it's not looking too good so far.

Looks like too much humor and character bloat are the enemies in this movie.

So you're letting someone else decide for you?

That's basically the job of a critic, isn't it? If he trusts that guys judgment and the review, he can allocate his precious time and $$$ accordingly. Skipping the theater and waiting for streaming is a pretty low bar these days.
But despite all the reviews warning how bad the latest Crow movie is, you still went to see it. :lollipop_confounded:

I know someone who worked on Castle as part of the of lighting crew and he told me some crazy stories about what was going on behind the scenes. He said Fillion was a childish dickhead who touched up his female castmates too much and speculated that Katic was blackballed from Hollywood due to erratic behavior towards the end of the shows run.

No. The job of a critic is to offer their judgements ... Not decide for you.
