They won't discontinue the series s/x in 2026. Not until their next "console" comes out (late 2027?). But I see 2026 the last year of support by most devs, most likely we will see a large drop off in 2027 and perhaps just major titles released.
Why would they stop supporting it now when it is at its most ever consoles sold point?

I believe it is a common misconception that older units continue to sell software at similar rates to recent hardware sold.

Suffice it to say, I believe consoles need RECENT sales to be sustainable. 2 years of no new hardware sales would make current software sales tank, not sustain at existing levels.

We are enthusiasts who value our consoles until they are retired. Most consoles however are dust collectors in 1 to 2 years post purchase.

Specifically the XSS sold during the pandemic that were bought because XSX wasn't available. There are probably a lot of those collecting dust.

The majority of early switch 1 adopters only used it for 1 or 2 years? Same goes for PS5. Doesn't make sense. Very popular platforms for playing games. I could understand the series s/x not being sustainable tho, for obvious reasons.

Early adopters buy games but a percentage of them drop off the buying phase. Especially if they have bought "their game". Todays market has become about buying and engaging with fewer individual games, but investing longer hours into those they do play. To sustain software sales new console owners are very important.

These people want to invest for the next 10 years, they aren't interested in tech but they just don't want to miss anything.

The Series X is near perfect from an engineering standpoint. Proof that software is what shifts units.
You need both. The WiiU had many great games, but they only really sold once Nintendo made the Switch and re-released all the WiiU games on Switch. WiiU just sucked that much as a console that not even Nintendo software could move it.

How is Phil not fired yet?!
Bailing from low margin console h/w business and concentrating on high margin s/w business isn't what will get him fired.
Running the latter business into the ground - just like MS has always done with basically every gaming studio purchase they've ever made - would tho.

its dead Jim!

Series X will be looked back on fondly from a hardware perspective imo, it was genuinely ahead of its time, and a forward thinking console.

Shame it was lead by a company that has no idea of what to do with its gaming arm.....because its lead by people that make fundamental mistakes.

I think it will be discontinued in 2026, 100% with the ram issues on top of everything else.

Why discontinue? Best leaving your customers guessing about the state of the platform and their libraries. Or even better - send mixed signals by saying different things every time someone asks you about the future of Xbox hardware.

Meanwhile even more stores will stop selling Xbox consoles and those still offering them will set astronomical prices.

Bought mines with so much hope for the future with MS Studio games...first console I ended up trading in (earlier this year). Now that almost everything is coming to either PS5 or Switch I don't even regret it...sad.

I like mine personally my only real complaint is the storage expansion price was absurd. I have all three of the modern systems GamePass makes it worth it to me personally.

Yup, it's a shame as the series X was great, series S just needed at least 12GB of high speed ram and it completely crippled the system.

But even then, they would need leadership that wasn't trying to steer an Xbox barge like a speedboat.

Nah, he's a lifer exec. He will be collecting his pension soon and sitting on a board.

Past CEOs of the gaming division weren't MS lifers, so they were easily expendable. He did what they wanted him to do.

How are people voting Yes when there is already news out there of MS and Foxconn joining hands to "significantly" increase Xbox production.
So next year Xbox will sell 3 Million !!!

I trust Kepler far more than someone who has consistently overestimated Xbox sales. Access to the numbers done by sales juggernauts like Hogwarts Legacy, MH Wilds, etc on XBox vs PS5 would be quite illuminating.

No it won't. For most of its life its lagged behind PS5 in like-for-like titles despite having a much larger and more expensive APU at its heart. Zero innovation on controller design too.

Solid hardware design, but PS5 overshadows it in every way.

During the pandemic in my country PS5 was very limited and the PS related Facebook groups were full of people showing their Series S - gamepass combos ultil they get their hands on a PS5.

Definitely. And you can replace storage in a PS5 for an absurdly cheaper cost.

It also doesn't require external batteries for its conteoller like were back in 1994 playing on a fucking Game Gear.
