Long Island and NYC might as well be separate countries.

There's a reason people from LI call any place in the 5 Boros "the city".

A lot of those kids growing up out there are so sheltered that they consider all of Queens and the Bronx "the ghetto".

@_@

Can confirm this as accurate. They're also bad at gauging how hip -> baby-raisy Brooklyn has become.

You couldn't be more wrong there.

Jim is racist. It's more of the regular 40+ year old white guy type of racism than Anthony's life consuming racism. Like when a group of rowdy teens attack someone and it turns out they're black, Jim will say "of course". Opie is becoming a bit of a racist too lately.

1. I don't think it's semantics. The long island mentality and way of life is very different from NYC. He's told stories from his childhood where "the city" was a big scary thing that he maybe went to once a year. Long island is over 100 miles long, it's not accurate to lump it in with NYC.
2. He has only recently gotten into photography, like within the last month. He wasn't taking pictures that no one has ever seen before, but he was doing something new to him while playing with his new toy. he probably bought a lens that's good for night shooting and wanted to try it out.
3. He doesn't find black women attractive at all. He's extremely racist. I don't think that's the reason he took her picture.
4. There are better places to scope out hot chicks than a deserted times square in the middle of the night.
5. Times sq can be used to describe a fairly large area. He may have been on a side street walking to the apartment he has nearby. If a police report was filed, I'm sure surveillance video would surface. This incident probably lasted 20 seconds total, so it doesn't surprise me that no one really saw or cared.

The buzzfeed comment was just a shot at that site because i hate it

The bottom line is that he has no incentive to make up or embellish this event. It wasn't that bad even if you take his word for it. A chick got pissy for having her picture taken and hit him a few times.

1.The guys probably rich enough to have a place in Manhattan though right? And has probably lived there for the majority of his adult life. He's a New Yorker and has probably been living in Manhattan for decades now.
2. If he's recently gotten into photography please explain a) why is he taking pictures at midnight. Surely you would want the best lighting etc to get the best photos so why would you take photos at night and b) why is he taking photos of a scaffolding that happens to have a woman standing next to it.
3. We've already know he's racist but that doesn't mean he wouldn't take pictures of her. He could be trying to take pictures of her and use it as some sort of shitty joke on his show for all we know. It also doesn't mean he didn't find her attractive.
4. I'm sure there are but that doesn't he could've been coming out of somewhere and saw her walking and just grabbed his phone and took the picture.
5. I still highly doubt no one saw it. Maybe no one cared but I doubt no one saw it happen.

Can't believe I was the first one...

In other news, I used to listen to them before their show moved to satellite and it was never a secret that Anthony was a racist. In fact, though he would deny that he was one, it was always played for laughs on the show and everyone pretty much was aware of it. For like, several months after Obama was first elected the show was almost unlistenable to because it was just hours of extended ranting from Anthony.

At the same time, the show was fucking hilarious, so I stuck through with it.

Good luck trying to take them down, these guys always have always found a way to rise back after controversy.

I really wish it was just Opie and Jim, Ant gets to out of line at times. It doesn't help that they were after the people who were after Adam Richman after the Thinspiration deal. This just tells them, "Oh, you can't say shit anymore, that's why were on satellite."

The only people "shocked" at this are people who have never listened to O&A. He's said much worse. Also don't expect an apology, Anthony lives for this shit.

So he literally makes money being a known and out right racist?

I'm black and while the racist language didn't exactly set me off, what I found more revolting was the vulgar language he used to describe her as a woman.

Dude he said we black people are savages, always ready to fight like animals.

It's hard for me to get personally offended, especially by cowards like this piece of shit; racism is often about intimidation, and in my experience when you show you aren't intimidated they fold like the pieces of shit they are. The interesting thing to me is that there really seems to be no evidence he was just randomly taking pictures of the city, it seems rather clear he was taking pictures of her, she saw him, snapped, etc. And in response he goes on a random racist rant.

Opie and Anthony are basically the voices of middle aged white male resentment. And to those lamenting that Patrice isn't here to "set them straight" let's be real: all he would do is tell an admittedly funny joke and give them some means to transitioning to discussing something else. I support edgy offensive humor, however they're constantly making racist statements, straight faced. That's who they are. Racist jokes are fine, but these dudes don't even pretend to joke lol.

Who the fuck punches someone for taking a photo? And if they do, why you gotta make it racial? Everyone involved sucks.

Since when is Opie a racist too? Pretty irresponsible throwing that accusation around.

Yeah Anthony is a pretty well known racist. Same with Jim Norton. Listening to that Bill Burr clip Jim getting upset some tea party asshole got punched is hilarious. What a doucebhag.

Is that really true? I always thought that Norton would just say racist shit to be edgy or whatever.

Anthony, on the other hand, is a real legit racist though. If it were 50 years ago, he'd be protesting integrated schools or something.

1. You're using the word probably a lot because you don't know anything. He lives on long island. He's had an apartment in NYC for a couple years because it's close to where he works. From what he says on the show, he stays in the city a couple times a month tops. I think he's only lived within the 5 boroughs for a few years of his life, and that was in brooklyn before he was famous. He's not a new yorker and he would not identify himself as one. He dislikes NYC in general. Specifically traffic, black people, deblasio.
2. a) what? you've never seen a nice photograph taken at night? b) here's his tweet about what he was taking pictures of:
https://twitter.com/AnthonyCumia/status/484789123220127745

And here are a couple other photos he took that night
https://twitter.com/AnthonyCumia/status/484805349661081601
https://twitter.com/AnthonyCumia/status/484429874119979008/photo/1
https://twitter.com/AnthonyCumia/status/484430095663120384/photo/1

If you just saw those pictures unrelated to this story, would you think anything of it? Dude wanted to take pictures of NYC nightlife.
3. It's possible he was going to make fun of her but it doesn't really matter why he took the picture. You are allowed to photograph people in public, as has been said many times in this thread. Also I am pretty sure he was not attracted to her, he's made his position on the subject very clear many times..
4. He was taking lots of pictures at the time with his expensive DSLR and expensive lens. he posted many of them on his twitter, it wasn't a phone shot.
5. Well the 5 black guys saw it or heard the commotion and came over. Doesn't really matter if people saw it or not, but you might have a misconception about NYC at night. It's very easy to be alone on a block in the middle of the night.

Before anyone points it out, the things I am correcting people on aren't very important to the story but I get annoyed when people are uninformed or make assumptions. I think there is some value in being accurate when having discussions.

Jim usually is the consummate contrarian to Anthony on hot button race issues (though, he does like to goad him a lot) he absolutely shut him down fairly consistently when Ant was on his Trayvon twitter crusade, often feel he channels a lot of Patrice's stances when going against Ant (cause Opie certainly won't shut him down). Though, yeah mentioning the two in the same breath is definitely unfair, they are not in the same league.

He's said himself that he "dips his toes" in Anthony's way of thinking. It's nowhere near as bad as Anthony but it's there. Especially in the last year or so.

Jimmy isn't so much a contrarian as just rational. I guess rational is contrary to Anthony, though. If Anthony is 10/10 racist, jimmy and opie are maybe 2-3

I would have to hear this quote in context and then some examples. Opie is the only guy on the show who refuses to say racial slurs (unless goaded into it), and he's so goddamned stupid that sometimes it's difficult to know what he actually means.

He says "those people" instead of slurs. The dip my toes quote is from within the last week or two but I can't remember the exact context. I think it was about not wanting to live near them or something. I'm not sensitive about race or anything so I'm not reading into stuff that may or may not be racist.

I stopped listening several years ago when half of the show was them complaining about the company they work for, and the other half were his tired tirades. Looks like it's still exactly the same.

This is reaching, really. He says things like this because he isn't creative enough to come up with anything that's actually funny.

I haven't been listening for a few weeks so I haven't heard the other thing, but it sounds pretty bad, I'll admit.

Pretty much. Although I have to admit, the show is usually great when it's just Opie and Ant or Opie and Jim. They fall into a tired routine when it's a full show.

Yeah, i always liked it when they had a good comedian in as well.

I always figured Ant was jockeying for a Fox News job anyway, this should only help.

I'm not a listener of the show or anything but it's kinda hard to pass judgment on anyone involved without actually knowing what happened.

People are allowed to be racist and people are allowed to hate racist people. Not sure what else needs to be said.

It's probably worth pointing out that someone living in NYC comes into contact with the most diverse groups of people available on the planet, and for anyone who has never been to a place like that, they may not understand that people speak much more openly about race than people do in the other 99% of the country. He's still a complete asshole, though.

Oh and it really befuddles me how people actually think this guy was taking pictures of women. Really? Nationally recognized (perhaps worldwide) celebrity needs to take photos of women he finds attractive? Do people really believe the guy can't get laid if he wants?

Not from a chick as bad as that one in the picture.

I dunno how racist Anthony is IRL, but he does play a racist a-hole on the show and his twitter account, it's his persona. So rants like this are nothing new and he does go way overboard with it in an annoying way (I just change the channel). However, I do like how they point out on the show all the hypocrisy and the ridiculous apologizing/firing going on nowadays and the lack of free speech on the radio. If someone gets offended, then don't freaking listen to the show in question/change the channel. Stop with these worthless crusades in getting people fired. All this PC police crap is a slippery slope that will eventually lead to where one can't criticize the government, etc without getting into trouble resulting in you losing your job and/or going to jail.

On a side note, I also find it ridiculous that special interest groups are trying to turn various words into the same level as the n-word. Really, who actually uses the word retard to slander mentally handicapped? I've only heard it used to mean things like that is really stupid. You have to be a real scum of the earth to make fun of the mentally challenged anyway ;p.

You answered your own question in the very next sentence.

so you think he's not really racist, his racism is just his public persona?

Congrats on hitting all the usual points, next time throw in some stuff about whites being discriminated against, maybe something about tumblr and femenism too.

Entirely true.

As a Long Islander since birth, people are sheltered here. The city is Manhattan. Everything north of Central Park and not on the island of Manhattan is the ghetto.

Also, if you notice, Anthony's reaction was offensive, entertaining, and funny. Opie's reaction was douchey, not funny, and didn't contribute anything. That's basically O&A in a nutshell.

He really flashed back to his Frat days.

Actually, neither reaction was really all that funny. Both guys came off like shitheads.

Jesus, is shit like this even legal? I get that the guy was initially in the wrong for putting his hands on the producer. But taking him down and then holding him down so they can taunt him on radio after he'd already been subdued? That's ok to do?

He would have most likely sided with them to be honest.

Listening to this rant of his, he'd definitely agree. Whether you agree or disagree with what Patrice says, you can't deny that Patrice was one of the most interesting people to listen to on the planet.

Actually, neither's reaction was really all thatt funny. Both guys came off like shitheads.

I guess that's subjective, but we can at least agree that Ant's reaction was objectively funnier than Opie's. lol

Actually, the producer spit on the dude, so he deserved to get his ass kicked. But the bodyguards (Master Po and Club Soda Kenny) weren't aware of that, and it's not like they hurt the guy.

The producer was later fired for lying about this, I think.
