Came here to say this. It is astonishing that this game is Harolded as much as it is, and how long it's been out on so many platforms, and that you would think by now it would have 20 million in sales minimum.

I now see why square refuses to do anything of significance with this IP.

Do not be fooled by that poster. People have been saying this and sequels longer than blood-borne.

It will never happen. This would've been the year to do it and they are not doing it.

If you have a steam deck, it is the perfect game to play on there. I've been replaying it the last month and a half a little by little and it could easily be a game that came out in 2025 as an indie JRPG with amazing presentation, story, characters, and combat. The soundtrack is in the top five ever made for a game.

Just commit some time. It'll change your life.

Good riddance, they litterally go thousands of years into the past and future just so they can make female character stronger and smarter than the guy.
I'm not against women in games but it needs to be believalble.

This was on all the snes minis right? How many of those sold? I own it in a few different formats. I just started it on iOS last night.

Not 100% but I don't think it was and you had to mod it to add the ROM.

That said I doubt they would include that in sales total.

Very good numbers imo considering the game was never released in Europe and that by the time the NDS version released everyone and their mothers had already played the game on ZSNES.

Anyway, numbers aside, easy top 5 best videogame ever. An absolute must, and those saying "nah don't play it just wait for the remake" should repent, go to church and find Jesus or something because they are lost for sure.

It's interesting. The first time I played it I rented it from blockbuster. They only had one copy and it was always checked out. I doubt it got a very large distribution run in the 90/ even in the US. It also released very late in the life cycle.

The first time I beat them game it was definitely via emulators.

I avoided the ps1 version because of the loading times. I did eventually buy it via ps1 classics on the ps3 for the cutscenes though I'm not sure if I ever beat the game outside of emulation. I even emulated it on psp and RPI.

Square failed in the distribution of that game and they should have released a version without load times on PlayStation. It's like they wanted the game to fail.

Edit: when I say PlayStation, I mean PS4.

It's one of the 10 best games I've ever played. I finished it with all the endings, and the story is epic, the time travel... It's the greatest geniuses of video games, and Akira Toriyama. It's time for me to start Chrono Cross in a few days... A game I finally got and never played.

It came out the same year games transitioned from 2d to 3d, it was a new ip, internet didn't exist for word to spread in 1995, which means the game was drowned out by tech advancements for the next 15 years and forgotten by the mass public, and now the only sales it relies on are new gamers going back to play/try old games which isn't many

Of the 5 million that have played it though there are more people that agree that its the best rpg ever made than any other grp of people that have played other rpgs

Long ago, I was given the Japanese copy of the game on a trade for some Magic cards. I played through the game knowing little Japanese and when it hit the states, I bought a copy day one. One of the most awesome RPGs ever created, especially in the days of the early internet where people kept discovering things to do in it. It was highly influential to many video games one of which being John Romero's Daikatana.

It hasn't been done since. I'm not sure if a game like it will ever exist again. Sure, there was the spiritual sequel in Chrono Cross, but that game didn't get anywhere near what Trigger did.

It wasn't on the SNES minis. I hacked mine and added it though.

This was my favorite game of all time for the longest time. I haven't played through it in years though, probably not since the DS release. I keep waiting for an HD-2D remake but maybe that's foolish.

Played through it on PC a while back. Great game. A true classic. Would love a physical copy on Switch. It's kinda weird that Square Enix hasn't released it on Switch on a cartridge. They've done nearly everything else from that time. Collection of Mana. Final Fantasy 7-9. Legend of Mana. Chrono Cross. Saga Frontier 1 and 2. FF Tactics. Sad that they are ignoring Chrono Trigger. It deserves a physical release.
