All the british newspapers seem to be publishing glowing reviews, although if it's true Seydoux is given fuck all to work with I'm majorly bummed out.

I'm ashamed to say all of the Star Wars hype has deflated me on Spectre a little bit. Getting back into it now though, glad it's at least a decent film.

I already know I am going to hate all these scenes of M and Moneypenny fighting red tape and problems in the office. Who fucking cares.

They need to be in one scene. "Good Morning 007, here is a mission"

Really happy about positive early reviews. Didn't actually read it myself, but the reactions to the script leak were worrying. And it seems like this one hasn't carried nearly as much excitement as Skyfall did.

I'm not expecting CR, but if it's on par with Skyfall, I'm happy.

Seems like a mixed bag

Hopefully these show up!

Solid 9/10, ahaha.

Hmm well early impressions seem decent so far, to be honest I'm just happy that a good few people have said it's quite good, the lack of hype for the movie and amount of people seemingly wanting to shit on it early on was worrying (although I know the leaked script was the main reason for this). I'm still dead excited for Monday, I think the last time I went to see a movie on its opening day was The Dark Knight and that was on a whim.

I am always suspicious of early word of mouth reviews from early screenings (I seem to remember QoS had similarly positive reviews) but I am cautiously optimistic about this.

Solid 9/10, ahaha.

That reminds me of Sculli's review of Avatar.

10/10, 'good, not perfect'.

Holy fuck.

Didn't the Sony hack reveal emails that claimed the budget for SPECTRE has spiralled beyond $300m?

I think it's worth remembering that Bond is a cash machine for the producers who routinely pay themselves an absolute fortune.

I wouldn't be surprised if over $100m of that supposed $250m budget was on talent such as Craig and Mendes who both probably got paid a premium too.

[/I]'.

It's not word of mouth now, though, it's newspaper reviews. But the critics liked Skyfall and I didn't and they didn't like QoS, which I did, so I don't trust them with Bond anyway.

Massive spoiler alert....

I only just skimmed that review and a few others, but the general impression seems to be
there's no big swerve anywhere, no "Monica Bellucci is Blofeld" twist or anything subversive about the plainly obvious villain casting (Waltz, Scott).
Which is kind of disappointing, but also not really something I'm going to hold too hard against the movie.

Some cuts have been made to reduce the age rating from 15 to 12 in the UK. I hope it's uncensored in the Netherlands just like with Casino Royale.

James Bond 007 - Spectre: Pre-Cuts for UK Cinemas
Censorship Consequences for the Rest of the World?

Three years after Skyfall, a new James Bond adventure is heading to cinemas. Spectre is highly anticipated. The franchise has the luxury that it comes with a built-in fanbase that is eager to see each new entry in masses. So getting the people in front of the cinemas in Britain doesn't seem to be a problem. But getting them inside of the cinemas would've been a bit trickier - at least when you're aiming at a massive box office generated by a big audience below the age of 15.

The BBFC would have given the film such a rating in its uncensored form. That was too high for the producing studio Sony Pictures who asked the BBFC for advice on how to make adjustments in order to secure the 12A rating.

This film was originally seen for advice in an unfinished version. The company was advised it was likely to be classified 15 but that their preferred 12A could be obtained by making reductions in a scene of violence and in another scene showing the aftermath of a violent act. When the film was submitted for formal classification, acceptable reductions had been made in both scenes and the film was classified 12A.

Since these modifications were done before the film's post-production was completed some worries could stir up regarding the consequences for territories outside of the UK. Especially since the film is a British co-production that wouldn't be a totally rare occasion (think of Pompeij or The Inbetweeners Movie 2). On the other hand, the Bond franchise was handled differently in some cases, e.g. Casino Royale (which was individually censored in the UK, the US and Germany) or some of the Brosnan Bonds. We might have to wait until the home video releases come out in order to investigate the situation.

Spectre starts in UK cinemas on October 26th, 2015.

i'm not expecting anything amazing from this, but it should be a fun one-time thrill ride, right?

i like bond films, but i know eon productions will basically stop any drastic changes to freshen up the formula. they're too protective of the brand.

They did with Casino Royale, though...

Soundtrack is on Spotify

It fucking sucks. Majority of the cues are reused from Skyfall, and the new ones aren't anything special. Worst of all, this is the first bond film that does not have the full James Bond theme anywhere in the soundtrack. Theres only a couple of hints of it.

Was hoping Newman would do good, but no.

That's weird..

Is the OHMSS theme that could be heard in one of those trailers in there?

Not suprised. Thomas Newman sucks. Yeah so what he wrote a good score for a good movie in 1994.

David Arnold wrote an all timer for Casino Royale. Don't hire him back.
Fucking Broccoli and Wilson. Why do they let these director for hires bring in their own people/friends for Bond?

I was a little surprised yeah. Not like Mendes 'auteur' touch is felt on Skyfall otherwise, shouldn't have let him dictate the sound for it. Hopefully he's done now.

And they let it happen before with the nobody Marc Forster and his visual effects idiots that did the opening credits of Quantum of Solace. If I was Daniel Kleinman I would have told them to bugger off when they came crawling, hat in hand for Skyfall.

That's very dissapointing. I was not a fan of Skyfall's score at all.

That was a relaunch in a post Bourne era they could afford to take risks with that as they wanted to get away from the 'cheesy' Pierce Brosnan era with a tougher, harder Bond. And it payed off magnificently.

Skyfall was them reverting to type and we'll see about Spectre next week.

heads up for others here in the UK - it's a Bond exclusive graham norton show tonight

p0360brd.jpg

Joining Graham on the sofa are James Bond star Daniel Craig, who talks about the new Bond film Spectre; Naomie Harris, who plays Eve Moneypenny; Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz, who plays Bond's latest arch-enemy Franz Oberhauser; and pop superstar Sam Smith, who chats and performs Writing's on the Wall in a live world exclusive.

this

even then, casino royale wasn't a massive departure in itself. was kind of a... repackaging.

I'd love to see Murray Gold get a shot at it, personally. He usually does a couple Bondian/John Barry-style cues each season on Doctor Who and I always really enjoy them.

David Arnold probably shouldn't have ever gotten kicked off, honestly. I thought the Skyfall score was good - but Arnold was basically made for Bond scores.

Heh, that Propellerheads connection.

Arnold was the only really consistent thing about the Brosnan Era, really. Not even Brosnan was. But Arnold's scores worked. Tomorrow Never Dies is a damned good Bond score, honestly.
