First soundtrack clips. Sounds good, but I want a full on rendition of the Bond theme!! So many fucking teases over the past four films and not once has an action scene launched into the full Bond theme! I mean come the fuck on.

a slower paced track:

Anyhow, right. I have my tickets booked for 26th October. That means it's just over 10 days out. I will put the SPECTRE OT up next Sunday (25th October, a day before the official UK release).

get hype

Goddamn where's the hype for this film eh

It's only a week away!

There doesn't seem to be much marketing in the US either. I remember Skyfall ads were everywhere before release. Spectre on the other hand is far more muted.

The almost total lack of TV adverts is quite puzzling considering that the film opens in ten days. All the publicity that surrounded the new song however shows that people know a Bond film is coming and they're excited. Apart from that all I've seen for Spectre are those pretty tacky Sony Xperia billboards and such.

We're in that traditional window before a Bond film is released where everyone quietly thinks that the film might be terrible. I've heard mixed things myself but nothing concrete.

Several conspiracy theories doing the rounds have it that Sony have already resigned themselves to loosing the Bond distribution rights so they are deliberately phoning in the marketing of this one knowing the next film will be distributed by a rival.

There have been Heineken commercials featuring Craig Bond on tv for at least a month over here.

A lot to speculation about lack of ads (I mean the last film made a billion!) is due to this being the final film in the Sony distribution deal. The expectation is EON (the studio that makes and owns the franchise) is going to switch over to one of the other studios after this so Sony is in a "well, fuck it then" mode.

This makes no sense to me. Why give up on promoting your own film if that ultimately results in your own studio making less money? It's not like they'd be promoting a movie where some other studio would be making a profit from it. I would assume Sony would want to milk the cow for as long as they still have it in the barn.

EON is the primary owner of the franchise, MGM is part owner as well but EON runs the show on this franchise.

MGM owns the screen rights to the Bond franchise. If someone were to buy MGM they would be buying the Bond franchise too.

EON services the various licensing deals associated with the brand etc. It is also the Broccoli's producing 'vehicle'. EON do not have any right to say pick up the franchise and move to Paramount or what not.

When one talks about the studio that 'owns and makes' Bond it's MGM, not EON.

My understanding was Saltzman sold his half to UA (which eventually fell under MGM) but Cubby Broccoli purchased back their stake so Danjaq has full ownership.

The whole thing is a confusing mess so I will take your word for it.

The Bond rights are actually a really unique situation with a lot of weird, legal back and forths 'muddying up the water' unlike something like Warners and Batman or Marvel and Iron Man where everyone is crystal clear and straight forward.

I know I'm in the minority, but I've always thought Pierce Brosnan was the best looking Bond, relative to what I picture in my head. He just nailed the look.

Cinema staff across the entire UK are pretty much dreading the Bond release.

It's slated to be the biggest release for this year (and yes that includes Star Wars since it releases late in December). It's utter insanity whenever a Bond film comes out here. People at work sharing their horror stories over Skyfall was pretty funny.

I was checking the stats on first week bookings and pretty much every seat at my cineplex is reserved in every screen it plays for the first three days at least.

I actually agree with you, though that might have to do with him being the first Bond for me.

Really wish they would get any of the old Bonds to play a villain.

I know it's a cheap gimmick, but it would be fun

Skyfall was average at best but again I'm not a Bond fan to start with. Hope Specter can deliver more and have a better story.

It might be Hot Fuzz and Doctor Who talking, but I feel like Dalton leans more over the top/hammy as a villain. While Ghost Writer Brosnan I think would be more sinister and restrained.

His character in Penny Dreadful isn't a villain, but after seeing that, I could easily picture him as a Bond villain. But, you're right: a lot of his villain roles have been pretty hammy (another being in the Rocketeer).

Well, Dalton is a first and foremost theatrical actor, so it makes sense for him.

Absolutely, but his Bond looks peaked early on in GoldenEye. Something about the way his hair was cut and fit nicely over the ears. And the face had a clear, handsome definition instead of being puffed up in the later installments.

It's like he aged five years in the span of GE --> TND.

What could've been had with Brosnan as an 80s Bond:

You probably already know this, but Brosnan was already offered the role of Bond earlier in his career...but he turned it down, believing he was too young for the role.
Actually, it's a bit more tragic than that:
"In 1987, NBC cancelled Remington Steele and Brosnan was offered the role as James Bond, but the publicity revived Remington Steele. His contract with the Remington Steele producers required him to resume his role and he regretfully declined the Bond role."

You mixed up Dalton and Brosnan there. Dalton was offered it back a ways and turned it down due to his age. Brosnan was offered and wanted to do it in the mid-80s but couldn't do it due to commitments to Remington Steele.

wrong, that was Dalton. Brosnan was offered the role but could not accept due to Remington Steel's contract.

EDIT: ops, someone already corrected you. Sorry.

Does it cost them a fortune to use it or something?

nope

they're just being fucking stupid. It started as a cool "NOW HE'S BOND!!" idea in casino royale when it wasn't used until the end of the film, and that made sense. Since then David Arnold and Newman have for some reason continued to not use it. it's fucking bizarre.

You are all right. I mixed up my Bond trivia. I beg your forgiveness. I have shamed my ancestors.

Brosnan was always a bit too "pretty" for Bond, I thought. Connery and Craig got them rugged good looks.

and dalton managed to be both suave and hard as nails at the same time

Timothy_Dalton2-260x300.jpg

no other Bond could have pulled this scene off effectively, apart from maybe Craig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlZyeel-n9w. Dalton's Bond had this intense anger always simmering underneath, and when it came to the fore in Licence to Kill it was something to behold.

Connery up front please, I guess Craig can be up front with Connery since he is the current Bond after all.
