SPECTRE: old-school adventure & flamboyance, done with discretion & steel. Not a classic but strong
GUNBARREL IS BACK AT THE START!

#Spectre great fun, very exciting, sexily pro-Snowden

Spectre: the elegant ghost of vintage Bonds gone before. Cruel, dark & handsome, GSOH. Liked this a lot, surpassed expectations.

Well #JamesBond #Spectre was FANTASTIC! Loved it. Lots of nods to the other films. One cracking one liner by M

Go see #SPECTRE. Classic Bond. And possibly best opening sequence ever.

I'm hyped now. I can't wait to see this on Monday!

Well, that's a positive sign!

I'm happy that I get to see the gunbarrel at the start again

man, last time I saw a true James Bond film gunbarrel opening at the cinema was Die Another Day. Four films, 13 years ago. insane.

spectre's gonna open with the classic visuals and bond theme blaring. awesome.

Hopefully these show up!

The putrid Skyfall was well reviewed with similiar sounding blurbs.

I want to hear specifics from someone that cares past costume changes and globe trotting.

Hahaha

Jesus, the hate for that film here is something else. It's ridiculous.

You personally may dislike it, but its the highest grossing and best reviewed (critical and consumer feedback) Bond film ever made. Calling it "putrid" is hyperbole of the highest level.

I mean hell, its no Living Daylights or From Russia with Love but its hardly putrid dude.

CR RT: 95%/89%
Skyfall RT: 93%/86%

Seems like both critics and fans liked it less than CR. So it's not even the best reviewed Craig Bond.

Anyways, first time ever I'm not excited for this. The lack of Deakins is showing. Skyfall had such style, while this is looking bland. And Skyfall left a lot with the direction it took. I'd prefer another flawed, but enjoyable QoS than another Skyfall entry.

It seems it's going to be just fine. I have to wait till the 12th to see it here in Australia.
I love it when they hold back a movie with major spoilers for two weeks for no real reason in the internet age.

and yes, gunbarrel at the start is a good thing. as long as they don't reuse that weird one from QoS.

That's...still really good. Like the way you're talking about it, you'd expect something like a Ring-to-Ring 2 level drop. Both are still extremely well-regarded.

I have hopes that this will be better than Skyfall. I didn't really like Skyfall that much but my hype for Spectre is high. Which it is before any Bond premiere.

It's okay if it'll be worse than Casino Royale but I expect it to be a better movie than Skyfall. And if Spectre turns out better than Quantum of Solace, then I will be thrilled!

Big spoilers about the opening shot:

the gunbarrel is the Maurice Binder design, and its done in a way never seen before

I feel like there's no buzz for this movie. Star Wars is over shadowing everything, even the last Hunger Games, which I feel is more anticipated than this.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
I've had the worst expectations for this. But now, after readng the early reviews I feel giddy again.

It's bizarre. Here in the UK the bus adverts have just gone up. With Skyfall advertisements were everywhere. You could tell they spent a absolute ton on pushing that movie.

This one? It's feels as if it's been snuck out with little fanfare.

QoS was awful. If this is somewhere between Skyfall and CR, I'll be happy to see it twice.

QoS is a better movie that Skyfall imo. It showed a more forward Bond than the about turn to the safeness of the retro era that Skyfall was.

Skyfall is the Prometheus of Bond movies, imo..
And it doesn't get flak for it (outside here of GAF).

Lots of shine (the visual style is really immaculate), silly storyline, no substance.

I think I wouldn't have a problem with Skyfall, if they took another actor for the lead role, but seeing the kind of modern Bond that Daniel Craig debuted going back to all these old tropes was painful for me.

Reading some of the reviews on RT seems to reinforce the notion that (early script spoilers)
Madeleine's exactly as useless as she was in that draft, being the helpless damsel James has to go rescue from Blofeld's henchwoman near the end of the film.

It does feel like gaffers are determined to hate this no matter what.

I'd agree that Star Wars does overshadow pretty much everything, whereas Skyfall was THE thing to see that season, particularly after that stunt at the Olympics opening ceremony. It does feel quite crowded this October, after a relativley shitty summer (apart from Inside Out) it feels like multiple good films are release every week now.

Has there been some law passed that all movie opinions must fall within 30% of the Rotten Tomatoes score and 3 point grades of the CinemaScore to be deemed legitimate?

Nice, good reviews so far.

Loved Skyfall and I'm super excited about this, but unfortunately it hits on the 6th of November here :-(

I'm among the ones that were disappointed by Skyfall, but if we're going for RT comparisons, the % isn't a measure of how well reviewed it was, just how many critics/users overall liked it vs. didn't like it, without telling us how much they liked it. For that you have to look at the average scores and that is 7.8 for CR and 8.2 for Skyfall (or in user scores: 3.9/5 CR vs. 4.1/5 Skyfall), so the latter did in fact review better.

This isn't aimed at anyone on particular, but i will never understand the Rottenwatch culture of seriously comparing the worth of films by RT %. However, if you're putting that much stock into a collection of reviews from a myriad of people with different backgrounds, critical abilities, preferences and or/agendas (a flawed idea in itself), then at least do it right and compare the average scores.
