10,000 Japanese anime fans pick their favorite foreign cartoons

Strange is there an article as to why? I find it funny that a show that attracted western Anime fans that liked it because it was Anime adjacent can have the complete opposite reaction in Japan

I don't think I have ever seen an article examining it in detail but speculation ranges from being McAnime to the Imperial Japan allegory.

No one outside of the US I have met knows what the King of the Hill is. It's quite possibly the most American centric show ever. People outside of the US just don't get it for the most part and it makes sense as many of the jokes, stories and so forth really require you have lived and immersed yourself in the American culture.

Dis is true. Here in Canada we sum times watch on viewing sphere and we get so confused. We ask "What is dis" "what are trucks" "What is propane"?! before we go back to watch our indecipherable Canadian shows.

South Park is number 6

A lot of south park is dirty jokes any culture would kinda understand tho.

Wasn't TAS basically Japanese?

No, Batman: TAS wasn't basically Japanese. The only ways it could be are:
1. Bruce Timm's art style is inspired by anime.
2. Japanese studios were among the animation studios that worked on the show, but there were also companies based in other countries.

Everyone else involved in the cartoon was American, and it was created for an American audience.

I'm not sure how I feel about P&F being above Gumball. Maybe more of the voters need to catch up to the later seasons of each.

Regardless, more Japanese anime fans need to find the light of Avatar.

Also according to TVTropes at least Korra was a bigger hit then TLA. I have no idea if that is actually true or not.

Definitely thought The Last Airbender and Korra would've been there.
I remember catching some episodes of Ruby Gloom on late night TV when I couldn't sleep, actually pretty good, Misery is an awesome character.

You say this as if many Americans do not love stuff not intended for them. Shit, if anything Anime is huge in American because we had to go out of our way to get it until finally Japan realized a lot of Americans loved Japanese animation and did not give a fuck if it was not intended for them, they just wanted it and probably more than anyone else. Same goes for games. So if anything I think ignorance was more on part of those in Japan. America is a lot more open to cultural difference that some will give it credit for.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I'm well aware people can and do enjoy cultural exports all the time including both Americans, Japanese and everyone else.

I was stating it makes people look foolish when they don't get why their favorite thing isn't loved just as much by a foreign culture. People asking why the the Japanese don't love Rick and Marty or Stephen Universe just comes off as ignorant and arrogant when there could be dozens of reasons why those shows didn't connect with Japanese viewers and that is if those shows were even brought over officially.

I should have been more specific and stated a very different cultures. I could make a similar statement about you not liking or knowing some random Tv show that was popular in Germany in the 90s offends a German fan of said show. Or perhaps how a Canadian is appalled that a poll of favorite comedy shows held in Africa doesn't have the Trailer Pa rk Boys in the top ten.

Americans sure do love Japanese animation, right after they've edited out all foreign references like with Doraemon.

Eat your hamburgers, Apollo.

.

The only thing I recognize that isn't english or American is Moomin, and many of them were Japanese animated so does it even count?

I don't think I have ever seen an article examining it in detail but speculation ranges from being McAnime to the Imperial Japan allegory.

Simple answer is that it probably didn't get a big push at all in Japan. I never saw TLA DVDs for rental in Japan but I saw a lot of the stuff on the list of votes.

.....
I get that, but the way you are coming of its as if this is an American trait, rather than a somewhat common ignorance and arrogance the world over as to why whats popular here is not popular there. Have you not seen the hundreds of threads here asking why Americans do this and that differently from Europeans?

Yeah Tom and Jerry is revered in Japan. Quite hilarious too when you think about it since TandJ is barely appearing nowadays in American TV.

Hell, last year Pokemon XY just made an episode referencing Tom and Jerry.

What happened to the new T&J cartoon?

I know from experience with Japanese or Korean gfs that The Simpsons completely doesn't exist in East Asia.

It's funny.. all the totally American things that make it into Japan... It's odd the ones that don't.

I'd have thought Japan would get Simpsons merchandise anyway.

The Simpsons is most certainly a thing in Korea.

I remember The Simpsons being popular in Japan. It probably dropped off the chart after they started localizing their stuff from later seasons.

Come to think of it. There is almost no Japanese fanart of ATLA or Korra.

Also according to TVTropes at least Korra was a bigger hit then TLA. I have no idea if that is actually true or not.

Definitely untrue, especially with the way Nick kept screwing with it.
