8. Knight and Day (Mangold, June 25th)



Synopsis: An action-comedy centered on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a globe-spanning adventure where, amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, nothing and no one are what they seem.

Why You Should See It: James Mangold (Walk The Line, 3:10 To Yuma) is heading into action/comedy territory with Tom Cruise at the forefront. Let's hope this will change people's mind about the actor, as he does have excellent blockbuster-carrying skills. It looks like a wildly fun romp that doesn't take itself too seriously; something that most films tend to shy away from nowadays.

Russell Brand was the best part about Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so Get Him to the Greek does look appealing. Though yeah, Toy Story 3 is really the film of the month.

Another average month. Apart from TS3 nothing really stands out. Splice sounds interesting but I doubt I'll catch it's run here. Overall this blockbuster season is way worse than the last one, isn't it :/?

Also, this is the first I've heard of Karate Kid's apparent quality.
I have had a seething hatred for this remake considering how much I love the original, but now I'm really damn intrigued. May have to give it a shot in a couple weeks.

Valhalla Rising is a beautiful movie imo. But people who want to see it should be prepared to watch a slow-paced movie with less than a word page of spoken text.

If I watch Toy Story 1 and 2, I'll be down for 3 as well, but probably not until July when the theaters will be quieter/emptier.

Splice = yes. Valhalla Rising = no way in hell. It will probably only ever be in NY and LA. You can get it on IFC on demand though starting June 4th.

It's a very, very odd flick that is hard to connect with it. I didn't like it when I first saw it but I haven't been able to forget it since I saw it almost 8 months ago. I'm very much looking forward to rewatching.
