17 People shot at night club in Arkansas

That's it, no more guns, Australians!

"Yeah, seems fair enough I guess"

No more guns, Americans!

BUT MUH CONSTITUTION

I can't wait to see the excessive police brutality that will occur to minorities especially if we militarize police to remove guns from citizens! It'll be like the war on drugs all over again!

America has a unique gun problem. There's no way to just "take all the guns away". It's extremely easy to illegally obtain firearms.

There's a whole lot of ways. Run gun buy-back programs, make private gun sales (not gun sales between a shop owner and a customer) illegal or highly regulated. Enforce laws that make Domestic Assault convicts possessing firearms/ammunition illegal. The list goes on.

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of buy-back programs

These same problems existed under every president. The problem is much deeper than an individual.
I remember Obama was begging Congress to do /something/ in every shooting aftermath.

I can picture Trump going on Twitter like "Failing Dems convinced those people to not carry any guns to defend themselves and now they're injured. Very sad!".
Who would you trust to be the world leader outside of USA? Realistically?
Honestly? Something like Denmark or Dutchland.

Realistically? Germany, France, Canada, Japan.

There'd be riots of guns were banned in the US. I can't not imagine that there will be the crazier side of owners who would ironically start shootouts to fight for their guns.

Our only hope is for people to get out and vote for the midterms so that a Dem congress can deadlock Trump the same way a Repub congress deadlocked Obeezy.

I've read "there'd be riots" for many things, and there are never any. Truth is, first world people that live like princes of the Earth will never Do something that requires collective, intelligent effort. Those cries for "civil war" are fantasy and nothing else.

That's sort of my point. Even with a proactive president like Obama he still got shut down. It's going to take a massive movement, one of which this country is seemingly unwilling to do.

The second amendment will never be overturned. Overturn of the amendment doesn't have 50% popular support much less the 90+% it would need to be politically viable for overturn. I'm in favor of some smaller measures like more rigorous background checks but at the same time I'm not convinced that will do anything to actually solve the problem.

From Gallup October 2016:
Do you think there should or should not be a law that would ban the possession of handguns, except by the police and other authorized persons?

Yes 23%
No 76%
No opinion 1%

Mass shooting deaths account for about 0.01% of annual deaths in the US. There are plenty of other places to legislate that would save more lives and have feasible paths forward. The next best chance to make a huge impact is probably prohibiting human operated vehicles in a decade or two. At least there isn't a constitutional guarantee of the right to drive your car. Even without the need for a constitutional amendment this will be very difficult to politically enforce.

Can't wait for so many to start talking about the importance of thoughts, prayers, etc. Can't wait for politicians to talk about how there was no way to stop this from happening. Can't wait for everyone with half a brain to point out the obvious only to be shot down the the death-peddling NRA.

The last is already happening here.

So apparently there were no fatal victims? This will be ignored harder than the other mass shootings, tbh. Really depressing.

Pretty messed up that I had no reaction to seeing this. A few years ago this would have been shocking news to me. America needs to do something about the gun problem

You think the type of people who shoot up nightclubs in arguments are the type to respect gun control laws?

This argument doesn't really apply in this case. If it were a bank robbery, sure, you might have an argument to make, but this is just someone getting pissed off, who had a gun to get pissed off with.

The type of person who'd get violent in very specific situations unjustifiably isn't uncommon, and is by no means restricted to people who would do something illegal in a premeditated manner.

Fantasy is thinking that guns would be banned in the US in the first place.

Even before pondering the likelihood of a civil war scenario manifesting as a result of a nationwide enforced gun ban, the premise that scenario is built upon is itself 0.000001% likely.

Boomers will die one day. I, foolishly perhaps, put my faith in the hypothetical millennial government 40 years from now.

That Gallup question is horribly worded lol. Get your survey taking shit together Gallup.

I agree that guns will never be banned in America, it just won't happen. I think the most feasible thing that can happen is for rigorous background checks to be implemented, but that probably won't happen unless some politicians stand up to the NRA.

And that's fine with me. I've shot guns before, it's a really fun activity. I know many people who shoot guns at the range for fun. They shouldn't have to quit doing that because some scumbags have a hatred for others. But they should have to go through a background check.

I hate to be that guy, but this thread really dropped down the list fast. I think this is a good example of how we as a people focus on certain types of mass violence incidence differently. Many of the Islamic extremist threads go on for dozens of pages, up for a week or more. I don't think that people here only care about mass attacks done by Islamic extremists, but it seems clear to me that those are the ones that seem to be grabbing our attention. This is a good way to see how selective bias can occur against Muslims.

Well go have a look at the news sites, this is basically a footnote now. Shootings like this happen all the time in the US.

Not in a public setting like this where a mass of people are impacted by it. If you want to say yes it does, then so do mass shootings that are more fatal.

That entitled white prick thread did well because swm's got to preach about racism.

I'm glad all the major concert clubs in Seattle have metal detectors at the door now. Shootings like this are just tragic.

This wasn't a mass attack and nobody died.

Part of the obsession with terrorist attacks is the randomness of it all. When a white person goes on a random killing spree the threads are plenty active and the stories are just as talked about.

America has a gun problem. These idiots at this club shot it up because they were having a stupid fight. The fact that nobody died is NOT a reason to reduce the importance of this event. Don't be reactive to fatal incidents. Be proactive to the things that lead to fatal incidents.

Of course its still important. But theres a psychology to why the public reacts to events differently and its not as simple as "terrorism wasnt involved."

Article is changed to 25 shot now. It thought terrorist attack for sure when I read the headline. Crazy that they would have a gunfight in a crowded club. I'm guessing that most of them are bystanders. It's amazing no one died.
