It only costs $4000. GUFFAW
As I've said for that price the gun better also blow you too!

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

See that's what is cool about the 1911 you can like it for so many reasons.

I, for example, worry about marauding Filipinos.

Funny you say that. I saw a post in a RIA thread from a Filipino where he was expressing a pride that the 1911 was a great gun, because it had be strong enough to kill a Filipino. LOL

I'd love to won one, but they are too expensive IMHO.

Also not very good for lefties :(
Really? I'm left handed and haven't had to many problems with mine. I do need to still switch the mag release button, but from a shooting perspective (even one handed), its great.

They are workable, but I prefer a true ambidextrous gun.

My friend bought one a year ago and its a sexy thing to fire on the range. When I get my next handgun that'll probably be it.

Never heard of it, but this thread just made me want one.

Really? Where are you from/how old are you? It's often called the "Colt .45" as well, maybe you've heard of it under that name?

But yeah, if I ever had the money to blow, I am definitely getting one of these bad boys.

Saving for a 1911 AS WE SPEAK! Likely going with a Springfield Loaded duo tone or a Kimber ... I am so fucking excited.

C'mon . . . you can't deny the Freudian aspect of gun worship.

I dunno, they always turn into gun-women when I sexually objectify them, myself. If you really want to get into it, focus on the bullets/triggers not the gun barrels.

I wouldn't ever buy a gun, but as long as they seem to be a reality of this world, I don't see what the problem is with saying that one particular gun is particularly cool looking.

I've been tempted all year to purchase a 2011 Colt 1911, but I just have no use for it. : /

I'd much rather save for a S&W 686+

If I were to buy a pistol, it would be a 1911 or a Colt SAA.
I might trade in my full size XD towards one of these. I've got my subcompact for concealed carry, which was the reason for the original ZD purchase in the first place.

Time to check some prices...

That 100 year one is sexy as hell. Are all 1911's .45s or can you get a lower caliber?

Given how popular the gun is, it would be almost unthinkable that you couldn't get it in other calibers. You can get it in 10mm AUTO, which is the most bestest caliber. Pretty sure there's .40 S&W and 9mm variants available also.

10mm is overkill.

There are even .38 and .22 versions.

Second handgun looks fucking ugly. But the other two....sexy!

why would you want to? that makes me sad ---> ;(

Because I'm not trying to kill stuff and .45s get expensive to shoot IIRC. I'd rather have a lower call that you can shoot at targets and not be expensive. Aren't .45s even more expensive to shoot than 9mms?

Is there a certain .22 version that's good?

This thread is weird to me.

But that this gun has gone unchanged for 100 years and is still being used is probably quite impressive given how warfare machinery gets reinvented and finetuned all the time.

Well, it's usually only used with zombies. Have to prepare for the apocalypse somehow.

Pretty much what's so cool about it. With all the technology you wouldn't think a 100 year old gun would still be so good and so widely used. It's really amazing how good it was designed to still be so relevant.

might as well just get a 22 in that case. Yes 45 ammo is more expensive compared to 9mm

It's still in use because while there are lots of handguns that do things better than the 1911, none of them are clearly superior in every respect, such that they have "replaced" it. Even so, there are some modernized 1911s you can get with things like double stack magazines or polymer constructions, so it's not entirely an unchanged design.
