I do carry it. That was my main reason for the purchase of the smaller size and because my hands are too big for most subcompacts. It's a really comfortable gun.
That's a good reason, I have to admit the idea of a compact 1911 always sounds strange to me though lol.

It is a little strange considering most people I know carry Glocks. The only issue I've run into is that it's hard to find conversion kits for target shooting. Otherwise it's the exact same as any other 1911. Kimber also makes an ultra carry version that has a 3" barrel.

Interesting, I'll have to try one out sometime.

I'd like to purchase a gun within the next couple of years or so. Next time I go to a range I'm going to have to try one of these.

A quick internet browse suggests some Colt 1911s can be purchased for a grand or so. Can a respectable 1911 be bought for that price?

You can get a Rock Island Armory one (the type I have) for under $400. You can get "better" models for the price of the Colt. I have to say I find mine to work damn well though.

The only gun I've ever fired........at the Gun Store in Las Vegas

I was shocked at how powerful it was and had no idea it had been in use since 1911 until I looked it up on Wikipedia

Not really my thing. I'm an assault rifle man. But, it reminds me of an AK-47. Some designs just work well. Can take one hell of a beating and still very dependable. Gives one hell of a kick too. Last time I fired one my wrist and forearm were sore. But, it feels good, man. :)

A couple of guys mentioned that this model of gun is expensive. Is there any reason why? They can't be that expensive to make, can they?

Well they are made by several different companies, some can be gotten for under 400 like Manos has said. The really really high quality ones will go for close to/over a grand. Myself, I have a Taurus PT1911 and that came to around 600 after everything.

Fuck YES, this just made my night.

I'm still waiting for a dreidel one though. :(

Yeah, that shit sucks. It is the most draconian shit this side of D.C. It's a disgrace the way NYC is allowed to crap over the 2nd Amendment.

Personally I've always felt that the Kimber's Wilson Combats, Les Bear ones should also blow you afterwords for what people charge for those things. lol

My kimber was pretty pricey.

Ah okay, cool. I saw someone mention 3k for one earlier in this thread which is a lot more than I am willing to pay at the moment. I guess that's some connoisseur's choice shit right there.

Well some good news is you can get the one I own for ~$365 now.

Edit: Bah it's the 9mm version.

Back on topic you can most likely find a good priced RIA from gunbroker.com or budsgunshop.com

I have a question;

Why is that handgun very expensive? 2700 for one? I would assume that since this model is 100 years old, the price would had gone down. But then again, maybe the one model in the first post is a collector's edition of some sort? I saw some posts talking about variants costing 400$.. Why is that version so cheap?

I wish I could tell you why, but it varies. Some of it has to do with the parts used and where it's made. Rock Island Armory is made in the Philippines, that doesn't means it's not good at all, it's just usually cheaper than making it in the US. I've always thought a lot has to do with components, how it's made, shipped, and checked. It's also important to remember that a name can affect the price too.

It's why you'll also see the variance in prices with AKs and AR-15s too. I've been told Colt for example tests out their individual rifles before shipping them, other companies do a group sample check (notwithstanding normal safety measures).

What a fucking cool job.

"Bang - that one works"

"Bang - that one works"

"BANG! - that one's fucked"

"Bang - that one works"

"Pffft - that one's fucked"

I'd do that shit all day long. 2 at a time for overtime.

It's a bit more than that...but yes that is a very important component. :) They even ship the bullet tested with the packaging. Though that's more because some states require a spent bullet to be stored with them for a ballistics registry.

This is the greatest handgun ever made. The Colt Single Action Army. Six bullets... More than enough to kill anything that moves. Now I'll show you why they call me... 'Revolver'."

I don't actually know anything about guns. Carry on. Interesting tidbit in the OP about fighting the tribesmen though.

There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long sliver bullet into a well-greased chamber.

I have one. :D

I own a Colt SAA: Sheriffs Model. Lovely firearm.

I also have a standard Nickel Colt SAA on the way

Just remember when loading and carrying: Load one, skip one Load four

The 1911 is so awesome, its Captain Price's sidearm of choice.

And Vincent Vega's. His was chromed with pearl grips:

(that's the biggest picture I can find)

Also, when it come to the ethics of guns, my take is a little split:

I disagree with them fundamentally, and if it was possible to immediately snap my fingers and halt the manufacture, sale, use and existence of guns, I would. They are a tool whose only purpose is to cause suffering.

That said, every time I look at a book detailing their history and get to see all the different famous models, it is fascinating. For better or worse, guns are such a deep part of the American fabric. AND, when I was in the Army, I was a crack shot with that M-16 and I enjoyed shooting it. I even got a trophy for it, and I could disassemble, clean and reassemble it as fast as anyone.

Guns are an iconic part of America's past, present and future. I don't know if they're something we should be particularly proud of, as with say... baseball, cinema, jazz or aviation. But they're part of our DNA, like it or not.

Guess you feel the same way about swords, knives, axes, bows/arrows, fists, clubs, etc. Eh?

Kind of. Although knives and axes are conceptually tools (as are fists, and clubs, hammers and anything else used to strike), not exclusively implements of warfare, so maybe exclude them. Also, my diatribe was from a specifically American point of view, and swords, etc don't really "belong" to us the same way. Not that America invented guns, but I'd argue that repetition, which we contributed, is the single most important innovation in the history of the firearm, barring gunpowder itself.

You can't make that distinction. Knives and Axes are also made to kill. Just like guns are. Fists, clubs and anything else used to strike have also been used in history for warfare, so they too should be banned by your logic.

The entire point is that guns aren't the issue, people are. People will find whatever they can use to kill people, be it guns, knives or their own bare hands.

You just happen to have a narrow sighted issue with guns.

I'd guess that you're some lofty minded idealistic college age or younger kid, or recently graduated college. If that's true, I'm not surprised at your diatribe. A lot of GAF especially liberal gaf is like you.

The 1911 is easily one of the best inventions of the century. How many other comples devices held up for so long with so little change?

While I agree with you regarding the content of your post, you would do well to read that the poster you are replying to has already stated that he used to be in the army. That puts him, at the very youngest, at 24 assuming a 6 year stint. Probably older than that really.

6 years is out of the norm, 3-4 years is typical. I did 5 years in the Army and I'm in college right now at 31.

Also, are you trying to say 24 isn't young?

The young/college thing was more to point at the liberal mind set anyhow.

Since the thread has been bumped, I may as well add my dream pistols to it. They will probably never be bought because a. I live in Australia now, and 2. I don't really like the 1911 as a practical weapon, but damn if they are not pretty and nice to shoot when they run right.
