1st Revolution pic

360 is smaller than PS3, and Rev is smaller than all.

PS3 Xbox 360

About 13.5" x 3.25" About 10.25" x 2.5"

That is all.

I can't figure out how they can put a hardware that is a at the same level of PS3, X360 in that tiny case.
see mini-atx PCs or the Mac-mini for further information.

Well if the early reports are right, they're not going to. Though I'm still wondering if that's one of those mainstream estimations where they divide the number of bits they're told or something like that.

If the system is AS NINTENDO HAS SAID ON THE RECORD two to three times more powerful than a Gamecube, then it's perfectly evident how they managed to shoehorn it in. Perrin Kaplan's statement is the same level of ownage as PDZero, and the PS3 controller.

Ok, sorry even if the news is that nintendo is not aiming at the same goal of the other machines, I thought that they will keep a competitive HW like the past generations.

damn new sexy indeeed. I like the design of this better than x360 and PS3.. but 2-3 times as powerfull as the cube? Isn't that like. not much compared to x360 and PS3?

I think 2-3x is more PR speak than quantifiable stuff. If that's the case, the Revolution wouldn't be able to run most next generation games.

I think one way or the other, after Nintendo's Conference, some pwnage shall occur. :)

Look's like Nintendo said since Sony is no-longer interested in the black box design that light's up blue when on (PS2), we'll use it.

Yeah, some have tried to point that out, but it gets ignored.

I laugh when I think back about the naysayers making fun of the PS2 look, putting it on its side was all a big joke to some. Now look, everyone's doing it.

Im sure this has been said 100 times already but man, I love the look of this system. Simplistic yet SWWWANK. The skinny light down the front is SEX.

Nintendo Revolution PR:
All-Access Gaming
"We will show the world what a next-gen system can be. Revolution marries the strongest heritage of innovation to the future of gaming," says Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. "With backward compatibility and the 'virtual console' concept, the stylish, compact body provides maximum gaming power. It will not only take home entertainment into another dimension by expanding the definition of video games, but it also will give you access to the great history of gaming."

The cool look: The new console boasts high-quality materials and a smart, compact design, approximately the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together. A variety of prototype colors are being showcased during E3. It will come with a silver stand that makes the system a welcome, artistic component of any multimedia setup, whether it’s displayed vertically or horizontally.

Backward compatibility: The new console plays all games from the current Nintendo GameCube generation. But there's more…

The secret weapon: The console also will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Easy expansion: A bay for an SD memory card will let players expand the internal flash memory.

Two disc formats, one slot: Instead of a tray, a single, innovative, self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. Owners will have the option of equipping a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content.

The specs: The system boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, wireless controllers, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi access. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment. Revolution’s technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," will deliver game experiences not previously possible.

The stars: Introduction of a number of new franchise properties will add to the world’s richest stable of stars, including Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong and Metroid.

Wireless freedom: A number of Wi-Fi-enabled launch titles are in development that will employ Nintendo’s newly announced wireless gaming service, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment.

Freedom of design: A dynamic development architecture equally accommodates both big-budget, high-profile game “masterpieces” as well as indie games conceived by individual developers equipped with only a big idea.

The PS2 design wasn't bad, but it wasn't astounding, either (PSTwo is a different story). The "grill" they had on the front was kinda fugly.

The Revolution is beautiful, I don't know if I prefer it or the 360 in terms of looks. They should go with a black bottom instead of silver.

The reason Nintendo can make the console so small is, just like GC, they put the power supply outside the unit. I don't know why Sony and MS don't take the same approach. Would certainly help with heat issues and also warranty problems (easier to fix).

I try to keep an even keel on the forum. We all have bias's. Most of you know I'm partial to Xbox. That being said, I like Nintendo's design. I think this will really take off in Japan. I still view them as the 3rd place contender WW though. I just think it's going to take a lot more than a micro-design to win back consumers.

The built in Wi-Fi and online gaming is huge step in the right direction. If Nintendo can maintain the price advantage, they will certainly gain marketshare in all territories.

Really, I think we will see marketshare very close among all 3. They all really improved their weaknesses. MS has done a great job getting 3rd party developers and console design. Nintendo has shown that they want to compete off-line and on-line. And Sony finally got the power advantage back.

i figured they'd go for flash storage versus a hard drive (smaller and less heat dissipation), but 512MB is pretty small. Considering the size of Gamecube games, even with a gig of SD storage and compression you'll only be able to store a few Gamecube games. i'm hoping USB hard drives are supported, as they should be.

That's it? That's the specs? WTF, where is the details?

This is what is having me believe the retro stuff might be downloaded as you play it. the flash will also support game saves I am guessing.

why would you d/l Gamecube games when the thing reads GC discs? The d/l'ing is meant for NES/SNES/N64 games.
