1up: X05 Roundtable

Let me guess.

We went in with battered expectations from an abysmal string of pre-launch problems. That relatively demolished standard combined with all the free swag and money hats given to us by Microsoft, we think that X05 was pretty hot shit.

You forgot the Amsterdam factor.

Oh shit ...

I didn't realize the previous Ghost Recon E3 vids were target videos. Crap, it looks like arse. I don't even want to quote what they're saying.

Guess some people are going to have to go back an edit their comments in the MGS4 threads.

I don't know where I heard it (I think it was out of Blim's mouth), but I thought the E3 demos were real time but just totally scripted and with all of the full shaders and so on. But the X05 demo was 60% and playable without a good deal of them. I dunno, haha.

Nice.

Watching this vid and just noticing a common sentiment on GAF and elsewhere gets me thinking about the, to me, previously lower-key need for every game to look next-gen and how it almost seems to invalidate a game's worth if it can't match up to a fairly nebulous idea of what next-gen is. I understand that when you play a game, or see a game in action that the feeling generated from the experience is capable of making you sit up and say, 'God damn, this is the fucking future right here. This is next-gen, here!' Still, it seems almost alien to me to see that there is some sort of concensus on what next-gen is when we haven't even gotten there yet (cue PS3 is when next-gen starts BS). Certainly, the idea can be made through just comparing next-gen titles to current-gen shit...but I dunno. Maybe nothing...

Che looks like he was blazin' it up there and still hasn't recovered, though. :lol

You guys need to spend way less time reading this board.

That was like the video equivalent of a GAF thread. Let's fixate on one issue and beat it to death, then start over and beat the same issue to death again.

Good impressions. The games seem to be coming together this close to release, it wil be interesting to see how the second gen stuff turns out when devs aren't under the gun. Che you look beat tired. Good video though.

I was told by Ubisoft rep at E3 that the demo was 100% real time running on 6800U SLI PC. So I think what you heard is correct.

IMO, Ubi will start adding the FXs to the game as it progresses, and will end up looking exactly like the E3 demo in few short months. I mean it will be rediculous to think that Xenos couldn't replicate the performance of 6800U in SLI.

Hey, Che, do GAF readers actually believe the whole moneyhat thing? Or is it just a GAF meme?

Microsoft's extremely friendly with press and retailers for good reason. I doubt they outright hand-out cash, but at the few events I've attended, there's been a very good investment to make people feel right at home. Free little knick-nacks, good food, transportation, etc.

Nice roundtable but I think PDZ is getting too much credit than it deserves

Enemy voices so far have been silent in all gameplay videos I've seen. Whatever happened to the guards choking when shot in the neck or saying "why me" when killed or yelling insults at Joanna?

Also, PDZ doesn't have blood stains. Someone please tell me why this basic feature is missing in a next-generation game?

Che: next time you see allard or any rare guy tell him the lack of bloodstains is dissapointing.

Anyways i liked the video but i wish it covered some of the games that no one covers, like condemned, 99 knights and fifa.

Atleast Microsoft didn't bribe people with HDTV's this time.

AMIRITE?

Kameo is some hot shit though, I can't wait to play that one. I'll be there after the holidays probably (saving for a car so I don't want to spend more than I have to for the holidays).

very impressed with the round table i loved the cut in's and it was generally pretty interesting no bashing

and there were critisisims but it was constructive

very good A +

Interesting discussion, though a few times people seemed to struggle to get out their ideas. I was miffed how no one thought Kameo was looking fantastic aside from graphics. Lots of "bad art" comments overshadowning great music, visuals, gameplay and scope.

You guys are way too harsh on Kameo. The guy on the right is kind of vague too. What is wrong with PDZ...x100.

Uh, okay.

Marky MacD is just trying to say that no Japanese Anime art style = no buy!

Yeah, it's pretty well done. I think it sums up how most people feel about the 360 lineup: confused. I know that I'm blown away and disappointed often by 360 screenshot releases, often by the same game.

Rollercoaster baby, rollercoaster.

Hey don't be like that.... I just wanted to talk some more about your beautiful fro, that's all. And there's nothing wrong with being a cheap whore, buddy.

Why is the high res version zipped when it doesn't save any additional space?
well, i dunno if this their reason, but i remember when i used to work on a site, we zipped videos too...

with some very simple scripting, zipping files prevents direct linking to media while keeping browser/etc compatibility working properly

HE BLASPHEMED OBLIVION!!??!

Yeah when I heard it stuttered and was choppy all those nagging doubts I've been trying to suppress took over. I will not purchase this game if its released in this state. I dealt with Morrowind because my system was just ok for the time. Now they have the ability to optimize their for a single platform and they better not release it until it runs a consistant frame rate and no stuttering. To their defense though, I wonder how much effect having to make the game run with or without a hard drive is coming into play with Oblivion.

So far from watching all the media I'm not to sure what to think of Kameo. I was hoping to get a little more on it from people who played the game. How well is the slo-motion combo implemented? Can you get creative and make up all kinds of different ways to use the characters together or are you limited to preset action when you switch? Does the fighting feel "right"? This is one game I hope lives up to MS's hype. I think the 360 needs a light, fun game like this.

that roundtable was great... thats the kinda stuff that should be on g4tv!

i could watch 42 minutes of that seperated by commercial breaks

Same here. Basically, what G4 is missing is credibility and substance. If want comedy, I'll watch Comedy Central, G4.

I am also curious about this. All I've seen are the various creature forms fighting wave after wave of personality-less enemies (who seem to make a single-minded beeline towards your character, never dodging attacks or anything -- does Rare not do A.I.?). It would have been nice if some of the video had shown some kind of level or area progression so that I was more sure of what to expect from the gameplay outside of combat. The only objective I saw in Kameo was "beat the hell out of the enemies."

Literally laughed out loud and it's nearly midnight and I hope the neighbors didn't hear me.

MIDNIGHT?! See yas. *snore* :P

I really enjoyed that video. Sometimes hearing people talk about games can be painful but that was really well done.

I'm too disappointed with GR:AW... What the fuck happened there? I still have faith in UBISOFT that they can get it up to the standard set by the target video. Devs just need to stop showing these target videos...
