1up Yours (11/28) - Black Friday Edition

lol ok you can like the both.

I just have this image in my head (maybe wrong) of most people in America having no idea that the British version actually exists. Anyway from what Ive seen of the American version its good too.

Don't let the name get to you. What I love is that even though the show takes place in outer space, they deal with a lot of issues we can relate to today. From religion, to political issues, moral choices. Plus, the tech on the show isn't really out there. No one uses phasers (not knockin' Star Trek), they use more down to Earth weapons. Give it a rental at least, if you can. The last ten episodes start airing in January. Maybe if you like it you can do a Battlestar marathon to get caught up. I love the show. :D

If you,

a) havent seen the British Office then you should RIGHT NOW because it RAPES the US version.

b) have seen the British version and like the US one better, go jump off a cliff.
Not comparable. Similar premise, very different shows, especially as the US version has progressed.

I think it has a lot to do with which one you saw first. Once you get attached to a set of characters, seeing the same idea with new characters always feels a little wrong. I personally prefer the American show because I've become comfortable with it. That's not to say that the original is without merit, but when I went to watch it after enjoying the US show, it just felt off. You probably have some of the same thing going on in reverse.

I'm American and I think the UK Office is the best show ever. I also enjoy the US version but it's not near as good.

Totally agree with this.

Lost, on the other hand, is shit. Most overrated show ever.

So I was listening to last year's thanksgiving podcast because I need something to listen to while I write my research paper, and I realized Garnett's "my goddam show" line is now over a year old. WTF...where is the time going? Holy crap.

My thoughts, kinda felt the holiday stuff was kinda boring.

My favourite part was talking about Valkyria Chronicles, and I hope they will talk more about it next time.

Why would you put someone in a segment of the 1up Show that was discussing a game they've only played for 3 hours?

What's wrong with that? It's not like they were discussing the reviewable copy of the game. When these guys go to those shows like E3 or TGS and get their hands on some of those games it's not like they even get 3 hours with them and yet they still cover those games. That's why anyone who gets bitchy over this recent segment is a retard. It's the guy's impressions of his limited time with a beta... A FUCKING BETA.

Oh my god can we nip this fucking Killzone 2 talk in the bud already?

The shit doesn't come out for 3 months so who gives a fuck?

Thread hasn't even been up long enough to listen to the entire episode and Hoffman's fucking PS3 loving ass is talking about Killzone 2 already?

FUCK
Seriously, I HATE when people want to talk about a game they enjoy.

...

Probably because PS3 fans whine endlessly when their current hope for the future isn't covered promptly.

Yeah, I don't know why I've never gotten into shows like that. I mean, I'm a pretty nerdy guy and like space, so all these nerdy space shows should be right up my alley. I did buy Firefly on blu-ray and that is probably the first one of these shows I'll watch.

The name of something shouldn't keep you away from anything.

I'm disappointed with Shane's rant against people who say "ess ness". He shouldn't have stopped there, he should have gone after the weirdos who say "sness" like it's one word too. That shit is morally unacceptable.

david says he's not really into tactical shooters yet he's going to play socom?

Why not.. something to rail on again.

Or maybe he'll praise it, just to show how he's willing to give "good games" a chance.

Whatever, guy dug his hole :lol

did John the motherfucking brit just attribute the turkey head joke to Joey on friends?
I bet he says soccer too... >:|

It's a totally different show. The US version is a more straight up comedy and lacks the awkwardness of the original. The characters are exaggerated and fairly unbelievable. It's almost like they ripped out the soul. I like the US version a lot but the original is the best British comedy since Blackadder.

Did ER start more than 15 years ago? That was a groundbreaking show, at the time one of my favourites. I haven't watched it in years though. The Simpsons is a network show too, right? It's more than 15 years old though.

I could never get into Lost myself. It felt too much like a network show, if you know what I mean. Whenever I watch a US network show, it just feels sanitised. There are exceptions; The Simpsons, MASH, ER, Seinfeld, even 24 in a way. The contrast with HBO is astounding. They've made some very intelligent and genuinely surprising television in the last few years.

wtf. bsg > lost

shawn you're dead to me.

BSG's you're a cyclon ... no, he's a cyclon... no she's a cyclon.. anyone could be a cyclon angle lost me. I think I got up to mid season 3 and gave up. Also, something about the plump blond fighter pilot woman annoyed the hell out of me - the one getting her hair kissed in the photo posted.

Y2Kev.... I actually had the same problem for years. I never even bothered to look at BSG because it sounded so stupid, and like you Im not a Star Trek fan. The fact that people told me how great it was didnt convince me either because - as arrogant as this will sound - I dont trust te average persons views on the quality of a particular TV show. I know what I like as far as comedy, drama and Sci-fi.

With that said, do yourself a favour. Watch Battlestar Galactica opening mini-series (2 movie length episodes) then season 1. Ill take a 1 week ban if you dont like it. Just give it a go and youll be annoyed that you waited so long, believe me.

It has its problems, but generally, it is QUALITY TELEVISION.

I like Lost and Battlestar Galactica equally. Am I some kind of freak or something?

But yeah, if the ads are anything to go by, I would think Garnett is wrong about the 24 movie. "Be careful, madam president!" "You gotta save my kids, Jack!!" *XPLOSHUNS* "We're talking about innocent kids, here!! OPEN THE DAMN GATE!!" I can't help but laugh when I see that ad. Looks full of action movie cliches.

Oh, that GTA4 DLC was mentioned and it reminded me that there was an email at GameStop yesterday for this. You can actually pre order this at retail. It lists for $19.99 and you basically buy a token to download it. Kind of interesting...

Probably old, but there you go.

I just finished off The Wire, and a friend is recommending The Shield to me, but I can't shake the feeling that moving to another cop show so soon after one of the best things I've ever seen would spoil the show for me.

It's hard to imagine a cop show without all of the profanity and violence (and amazing writing and Nielsen-influence-free direction) that HBO can get away with.

I think I'm going to do something completely different and watch Heroes 2 and 3 to see how shitty they really are.

Killzone 2 sounds awesome, but I wish there weren't so many viral marketers about.

Why in God's name would you pre-order DLC? All you would be doing is giving Gamestop an interest free loan, with absolutely no consideration given to you in return.

I swear, if you people start pre-ordering DLC from GS, the terrorists have won.

The show was half okay. I didn't care for the community stories so I skipped it after 5 minutes.

Lol @ Shane's LBP crying

Artoon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V74f3hCVrGE

What !!!, I thought the community stories were fantastic, I was listening to them on my shuffle in town laughing my ass off, people must of thought I was crazy or something :-O.

And as for the LBP crying I think if you have a wonder in the LBP Bomba thread you see that most of the crying is done by people on here citing the most ridiculous of reasons as to way the game has failed before we've even given it a chance to sell.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one to pick up on this.

I think it was mentioned on a previous podcast that he's been in America for too long, then Garnett, I believe, said "you're one of us now".

I think he said Mom instead of Mum.
