MLBtv doodz.

Too bad it's the Tampa Bay broadcast.

Eh? Why are there no graphics overlays?

Johnson scores run number 4 on an rbi triple.

Ouch, Reggie Sanders just tied the Astros Cards game with a solo shot off of Pettite.

I'm listening to the game on the radio. We're doing pretty good....god Tampa bay is just horrible. they failed to score with a runner on second from a base hit that hit the RF wall.

God I'm missing Berkmans bat right now.

No. I've switched to watching the Astros and Cards so I'm missing out on what's happening with the Rays Jays game. Following that with ESPN.com. Tied game now.

(If you didn't notice though, I did predict a Jay's loss today so I'm kind of rooting for my system.)

aargh. he gave up two if A-COCK had fielded the ball things would be different.
plus, marano was uncharacteristically wild today. maybe joe torre should put in sturtze to close out the sox. he seems to do well against them. BUT, i am not gonna go on proclaiming how mariano is done and we should get rid of him.
i was listening to new york 1 last night and a couple of so called yankee fans had my blood boiling when they said that shit. (had my trusty battle axe all ready to chop some of thiose fools heads off too.)

Andy pitched great today, feel good about that :P

im fine with the fact that hes not as good as he used to be but hes still a top tier closer. he just has a lot of problems against the red sox. i think gordon should close out the red sox games for the yanks.

that's an option. another is to change the way he's pitching against these guys. cause they are zeroing in on the two-seam fastball. and they let the cutter go by.

WHAT'D YOU TO AN-- oh, he did? good to hear.

Sturtze scares the piss out of me. I don't know why because he's been solid after getting rocked his first 10-15 outings as a Yank.

Mariano has to stay the man, but he's has to change things up. Honestly, I know I'm light hearted when I mention it, but they really do know him to well. He has to do something to throw them off.

i agree about mariano. but i think sturtze is starting to come into his own. hey, if A-rod makes the play we wouldnt be talking about this. mariano gave up two dribblers to the heart of the order and ground ball singles to two other batters. he didnt get racked. he walked some people. and yesterday he gave up a fly ball that's an out at other stadiums but unfortunately is gone at yankee stadium so..... that's baseball. no other sport like it.

Don't worry Yankee fans, Bill Simmons is here to dash a bit of salt in the still fresh wound! :lol

Secret Yankee Closer Election Set for April 8
Extensive Security Planned for Friday's Funeral

By BILL SIMMONS

THE BRONX (April 6) -- Major League Baseball on Wednesday set April 8 as the date for the historic start of the conclave to elect a successor to Mariano Rivera, as the Yankees made final arrangements for the funeral of a great career that is expected to draw millions of Yankee fans and world leaders to the Bronx.

The decision came after the future Hall of Famer blew his second save in as many days against the team's biggest rival, the World Champion Red Sox, giving up five runs in the ninth, getting battered like a rented mule and ignominiously getting removed from the game in the middle of the inning, the fourth consecutive time he has blown a save to the Red Sox dating back to the 2004 ALCS. Fans at Yankee Stadium even booed the great closer on his way back to the dugout, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yankee fans are headed to hell.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees would be sequestered in the team offices in the early afternoon to start the decision process for the next closer. Candidates include Oakland's Octavio Dotel, Detroit's Ugueth Urbina, current set-up man Flash Gordon, Rick Ankiel and Charlie Sheen. The Yankees will continue to use Rivera from the bullpen, but only in blowouts and games where the lead or deficit is six runs or more.

If none of the candidates gets the required two-thirds majority after about 12 days, the Yankee braintrust may change procedure and elect the closer by simple majority. The date was set on the third hour of preparatory meetings of Yankee front office people who have converged on the Bronx ahead of Friday's funeral and burial of Rivera's career.

Fans continued to flock to Yankee Stadium after Wednesday's game, jamming up streets as they waited to pay their final respects to Rivera, who has been lying in state of shock since the Red Sox hammered him off the field for the second straight day. More than 200,000 Yankee fans will have filed solemnly by the pinstriped body by the end of Wednesday night, at a rate of about 15,000-18,000 people an hour in a nearly around-the-clock procession, according to calculations by the Yankee front office.

And that is why Mariano needed to win today...

Even without the A-Rod play, he still loaded up the bases on wild pitching and shitty singles. There comes a point though that the only way to shut the critics up is to do what you do best... and for two straight games he didn't do it. He had my benefit of the doubt until today. Now I've grown a little tired of watching him blow game after game to the Sox, and it's seemingly always the same damn way (at least Varitek's homer was little different - and you're right, it's a deep caught fly ball anywhere else.) Fucking walks and shit singles..

They know what's coming, they know how to handle it, and he's fucking scared and every one knows it. It's the same as the Who's Your Daddy Pedro concept... They're in his head.

The more I talk about this, the pissier I get =)

I hope Pettitte blows away the world and wins a Cy Young this year. He never got enough respect.

Stros up 4-1 :D

Lidge needs to lock this one down.

:lol Glavine just got fucked over by the ump... bases loaded, 2 outs, 2 strikes on Joe Randa...Glavine throws the pitch, he thinks its a strike, catcher thinks its a strike, even Joe Randa started toward the dugout, but he calls it a ball. Next pitch, base hit for 2 runs.

how did silva/twins get out of that inning?? (bases loaded one out.. nobody scored??)

what happened to Glavine??? Why's he out of the game so early?

Whoo.

Pettitte pitched awesome considering he's not nearly fully recovered [velocity was down + 71 pitches only today].

Qualls shuts down the Cards for 2 innings [0 H, 0 BB, 0 R]

Lidge gets his first save of many.

Willy T was 2-4. Lamb clutch off the bench as always.

Good to see 15 hits, now to convert those into more runs...

mofo, i benched pettite in one of my leagues because i figure hey, he's rusty and he's facing a monster offense. he might not do so well. yeah, that was good thinking.

Adam Eaton is throwin' HEAT.

96-97 mph. HOOOODOG. Sliders at 81-86 mph. Can't hit what you can't see!

Just struck out the side. 5 strikeouts in 3 innings.

The Mariano thing is because the Red Sox know his stuff in and out at this point. These teams have seen eachother so much over the past few years that it comes to a point where the hitters are gonna pick up on some things, especially when Rivera doesn't have a ton of variety to his pitches. The same thing was true with Pedro and the Yankees. Sure, they got in his head, but they were only able to do that because they had already figured him out more or less.

The thing with the Yankees (and this is only about facing the red sox) is that they have a dominating 1-3 starting lineup, but none of those guys are going 8+ innings. When that Quantril/Gordon duo comes up, you can just see the Red Sox hitters salivating....they KNOW they can knock these pitchers out. If it gets to the point that the same thing is true for Rivera, the Yankees are in big trouble.

Former Cy Young award winner Barry Zito gives up 5 runs in 6 innings to the O's, while no-namer Kirk Saarloos shuts them down for 6 innings today. What the heck...

Oh by the way, Nick Swisher: 2005 Rookie of the Year

Reds lead the division! Whoo! Mets get swept tomorrow! Cubs contniue their streak of shitiness. Goto hell Cubs fans! :lol

Reds dominating, what else is new? Griffey for MVP, on pace to become the first player in history to bat above .500. Got tickets to see them whip Houston's ass and make Roy Oswalt their little bitch on the 15th.

Reds fans, you guys are nuts. You're making Cubsfan and Mr. Bob sound sane. Griffey will be lucky to play 50 games, let alone hit .500

oddly enough, not a whole lot of posting from cubs fans in here. i guess they're waiting for later in the year so they can show up just in time for their choke.

btw, these new announcers are fucking AWFUL. bring back steve stone god damnit. I wanna watch the Cubs lose to his knowledgeable chatter. not this idle, clueless, straight outta MVP Baseball 2004 so-called "commentary"

:lol I'm well aware he won't hit .500. Him and Dunn will combine for over 100 HRs though.

That and they're getting bitchslapped by the D Backs.

Let the Reds fans chuckle it up for now. After April is over and their season is done they will be singing a different tune.

hey, Hawkins gives up a home run. who'da thunk it? :lol :lol :lol :lol

also :lol @ Gagne getting ejected even though he's on the DL

What the hell did Gagne say? I was keeping track of the game on espn and saw that Gagne was ejected! WTF! :lol

:lol I'm not sure. the ump called one of perez's pitches a ball(looked good to me), and like immediately the ump turned and pointed to gagne. funny stuff.

Damn, I'm not worried about Brazoban but this isnt exactly how I was hoping he'd start the season. By the way, who the hell is Steve Shmoll? Haha.
