Sheffield's anger would have been better directed at the real problem, Tom Gordon, who just plain fucking sucks against Boston.
The guy - obviously shit faced - went for the ball. It's against the rules, but I don't think Sheffield needed to give Boston fans more reasons to moan about the big bad Yankees and then tout that they slay them for the good of humanity. It's getting a wee bit fuckin annoying, and the only way to stop it is to show some class on the field. They did that when they stepped up to clap at the ring ceremony.
The Yankees are the bad guys in everyone's eyes, and shit like this just makes it worse. It will ALWAYS be perceived as the Yanks being in the wrong, which is why being a Yankee should come with a manual titled "We Pay You Lots, Now Shut the Fuck Up, Be Proud, Be a Man and Ignore the Bullshit." Let Jeter write it.
I guess a good contrast, meanwhile, is that the Red Sox are sitting there absolutely destroying the umps about ball strike calls for a guy who's got shit control on the mound. Bad control won't get you borderline strikes. It's a fact of life. As obnoxious as Rick Sutcliffe is (and Jesus H. Christ he is the portrait of cock sucking obnoxious), he was dead on with that observation. Regardless, two coaches blow up (one to the point where he looked like he was about to attack) and....

The funniest shit about that whole Shef thing was all the cornball fake tough guy frat kids in the tattered Abercrombie hats yelling shit like "Bring that over here," like if outside on Yawkey way at 3AM they saw Shef one-on-one they wouldn't shit their fucking drawers.

red sox fans are garbage, have been garbage, will always be garbage. they're nothing compared to new york fans who at worst will only curse at a player. and that's what you're supposed to do. talk garbage but never interfere with the players or the ballgame.
if you dont think that guy was trying to go for sheff's head or arm you're nuts or biased. probably both. this shit is gettin out of hand were you have fans going after players for no other reason because they have some sense of "entitlement" "well, he's an entertainer, he should show restraint" that's bull.
this happens way too much at ballparks and it's not the first time it happened at fenway against the yankees. in the 1999 ALCS the same exact shit happened, paul o'neill was fielding a ball in right field (close to that same spot) and another idiot red sox fan took a swipe at him. (i know joe remenbers this one, it's when that so-called security guard went after jeff nelson) you can hate the team all you want, BUT YOU CANT INTEREFERE WITH PLAYERS OR THE GAME. and no surprise that there was plenty of beer on hand.

why do they sell beer at games at all anyway? Can't people do ANYTHING without drinking? Hell they don't see beer at movie theatres, i dont' see why the same rule shouldn't apply to baseball games and sporting events.

They cried like bitches for years, and 1 winning year has gotten a little out of hand. Christ, look at last night where suddenly a pitcher with no fucking control over a god damn SLOW ASS fastball and the umpire becomes another one on George's payroll. Womack was called out on an invisible tag in the first, and Randy Johnson had the umpire waiting a good 2 or 3 seconds on some pitches to make a call - and you think its bias against your crackpot pitcher who hurls the ball like he's fucking Carmen Ronzonni before Kelly's dad got to him?
The only way to shut this shit up is with winning and class. Sometimes, you have to take the high road. So far, I feel that Yanks have done this so far in this short season - and they would have sent Boston a nice big shut the fuck up last night had they capitalized (what was there, like 900 people LOB) - and they frickin didn't. It's one of those moral victories that teams desperately need to show their sack, and the Yanks could not do it. Sheffield turning around and acting all disrespected doesn't win games.
