Mr. Boswell,
I appreciate that you will maintain your season ticket status at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It's a good thing to do, but if you're wondering why so many people are jumping ship, why don't you read the same paper you write for?
I like the Orioles as a ballclub. I've invested years of my life in seeing some of their core players, like Brian Roberts and Melvin Mora, establish themselves in the past couple of seasons. I met Rodrigo Lopez when he was a rookie who won his first couple of starts and had rocky English, but a true appreciation for fans. I've got a black BP jersey in my closet and the classic O's Cooperstown hat that Cal used to wear when his '83 squad won the World Series.
Angelos has pretty much ruined all I love about the Orioles. He made a piss-poor attempt to improve the team the past two seasons, save for purchasing Miguel Tejada, while shedding away young components such as Denny Bautista in one of the worst trades in MLB history.
Then he tells people who live in or right outside of D.C. that they belong to him, going as far to sabotage attempts to secure a NL team and continued to polarize the area. He was a complete jerk during negotiations and held our TV rights hostage, so Nationals fans could not watch games the first week of the season or all of pre-season practically.
For someone who fears driving away fans from Camden Yards, he's done as much as possible to make them unwelcome.
So while you might continue to trek up to Baltimore for games, I'm pledging that as long as Angelos is in charge, I will never step foot in Camden Yards again. It hurts. I love Tejada, Roberts, Gibbons, Lopez, etc. And I'm happy the team is getting some early success, but I'm even happier to devote my time to a team of players that are not used to fans and are embracing everyone with open arms.
So there's your answer.
