Tribe's showing the MLB what a small market team can do

...

Have you forgotten about the twins the last 5 years?

...or the marlins?....or to a lesser extent the angels?

:lol :lol :lol :lol come on

That must be one hell of a lesser extent to include any team that has incorporated 'los angeles' into its name as a small market team. :lol

I meant around the time when they won the World Series, when they weren't the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California of the United States.

Why do you think they added in the Los Angeles crap? Ding ding.

To sell merchandise to a larger market?

Their payroll, before the change, was over 100 million, I believe.

Small market is Oakland with a 50 million payroll.

Stros are middle of the pack with about 76 mil I believe. May be greater now, I have tried to avoid the numbers issues the past few years cause it just drives you nuts.

from 1992 till they won the series, their attendance was better than 7th out of 14 AL teams only twice. and both of those times they were sixth.
not exactly a huge revenue.

their payrolls in that time:

1992: 33 mil
1993: 27 mil
1994: 21 mil
1995: 29 mil
1996: 27 mil
1997: 29 mil
1998: 38 mil
1999: 50 mil
2000: 56 mil
2001: 47 mil
2002(world series): 61 mil....not exactly huge

but whatever, it's so pointless to argue what we consider small market teams =)

I just got in from work and haven't seen any of the game, but am I safe in saying CHACONED? :lol

Looks like one of your scrub starters is finally regressing to the mean.

Also, Curtis Schilling isn't dead yet.

Chalk one up for the good guys and if the playoffs ended today the Yanks are out of the picture. :) Here's hoping we kick 'em down a little more for Cleveland/Oakland/Anaheim. :)

its funny seeing the Yankees have to battle it out with Cleveland and Oakland for a wildcard playoff spot. Its like Shaq playing basketball against two 12 year olds and losing.

I can't believe the Jays pulled that one out. Even more shocking is that they rewarded a starter for pitching very well and actually got him a well-deserved W.

Two very talented 12 year olds.

I'm enjoying this. The Indians have the chance to really put the final nail in the Twins coffin tommorrow (I know, they've been out of it for a while, but I'm still enjoying this) while starting to put some ground between them and the wild card pack.

Cubs 8-2 in September, only 5.5 back in wildcard now.

4 game series with the stros and fish coming up and I foresee a 2-2 split.

Playoff push for the Cubs. :)

How would a 2-2 split with the Astros help you out at all?

2-2 splt fish and stros.

On second thought, though, perhaps I should root for the stros to win 3 out of 4. Cubs have 7 games left with the stros and I foresee the cubs winning at least 6 of the 7. :)

To Raoul: In between your rants against capitalism, how about paying a visit to the Braves bullpen and 'persuade' them to stop blowing it everytime Smoltz pitches a game. :p He'd have 20 wins in the bag if it weren't for their screwups. Foster and Reitsma especially looked out of gas and there aren't many options for giving them a rest.

Go Tribe!

Bottom of the second and the Tribe is RAPING the twins.

10-0 in the bottom of the second... god damn is this a killing.

Straight to the point, if you are an Indians fan and haven't shown up at a agme, shame on you. The indians have the 4th best record in all of baseball.. SHOW THE HELL UP AND SHOW SUPPORT!

Besides, as long as the Yankees dont make it... the world is a better place.

Tribe are a better team than the White Sox at the moment.

They look like the most dangerous team going into the playoffs. Better hope they don't get in!

I'll make my first online appeal to all my fellow Red Sox fans, join me in our fight against loosing pointless games that we should win. Support the Fire Tito Francona campaign and we can stop playing Kevin Millar EVERY DAMN DAY even in the corner OF, or having Youks bat 3rd with Papi on the bench, or any of the dozens of other asinine things he should have done.

The game yesterday should have gone to OT. When Manny got on base you pinch run with Sterns, the following bloop to center lets a guy with wheels like Sterns get home, while Manny got held at 3rd by Sveum, who's also a retard.

Red Sox = Worst managed team in baseball.

Sorry dude, I can't get with the whole "Fire Tito" campaign. Yes, I spent most of last year complaining about his horrible bullpen management, oddball lineup construction (I can understand giving somebody a day off, but why give them to 3 guys on the same day?), and fixation on certain players (Millar).

The fact of the matter is, other than his use of Pete in that blowout game 7 at The Toilet, Francona made all of the right moves in the postseason. And we won the World Series. Jimy Williams and Grady Little didn't do that. They were even worse than Tito in all facets of managing. Braindead, even.

I agree with you about Sveum, I say we direct all ire for the coaching staff towards "Send em Home" Dale Sveum instead. Also, why is Stern still on this roster? We had to shuffle the fuck out of things to keep this bum, and he is worthless. Graffanino is as good if not better on the basepaths, and he can actually hit. As for Millar...there are no words. I have been sour on him for a loooong time now, and a few homeruns aren't going to change that. The fat turd can't hit on the road, is average/below average in the field, and whines whenever he feels threatened. I swear he has compromising photos of Tito and Theo somewhere. More Youk and Petagine, please.

Enough of all the bitching, we only needed to get one game at the Toilet and we did. The Big Ugly pitched a great game, and so did Wake, we just came up short. The Yankees still have a steep uphill climb to beat us, and we finish the year with SEVEN home games. I like our chances. :)

this is very true. however, both the tribe and white sox know nothing about postseason play....it will come down to the pitching.
i dunno how well the indians' staff will hold up if they make it. at least we have Garcia, Contreras, and Duque with postseason experience.

but still, it is a crapshoot. the sox have been hitting like ass since the break. if we don't step it up when the playoffs start, we will get motherfucking embarrassed.
maybe ozzie should pick a lineup instead of mixing it up every fucking day, and put mccarthy in the rotation over duque.

i love the guy, but he makes a ton of mistakes when he sets the lineups. ugh

Thats where my hope lies as well, in Francona making a complete 180 metamorphosis into a great manager come playoff time. He did last year, he's going to need to again this year. I just can't stand blatantly negligent managing. However, thats the best reason I've heard yet to stay off the "Francona Hate" bandwagon because last year he really was a great playoff manager. No clue how to work over the regular season though.

Sveum, well, I won't get into that because I'm pretty sure this board sensors, no need fill the screen with that many random characters.

Giambi is thisclose to being the feared hitter he was back w/ Oakland--the kind that could carry a team for a few weeks. So far in September, he's done just that. He still needs to show me that opposite field power he used to have before I'm fully convinced though. Good win last night. We needed a laugher against these guys. I also didn't realize the Sox were facing their own Devil Rays in Toronto. GO JAYS!!!

the way the whitesox are playign right now, i wouldn't be surprised if they just all together missed the playoffs. :lol :lol

the way they're playing, meaning beating teams they're supposed to beat, like KC?

since the break we're still 5 games over .500. everyone acts like we're playing so awful this half of the year, but it's only because we kicked everyone's dick in during the first half.
had we kept that up we woulda finished up winning like 112 games, and even i knew that wasn't gonna happen.

but whatever, i'm used to the hate by now. i just think it's funny everyone talks about minnesota the last few years and how they always have a chance to go all the way. yet we pull the same thing this year and we're a joke.
the twins were the hot pick to win the series at the beginning of this year. where are they now? 13.5 games back, that's where.

Magic number = 13

oh, and Chi Sox play-off tickets go on sale tomorrow.

MrBob and Cubsfan, thanks for covering most of the cost of my ticket :)
