Bulls, Nuggets Discussing Trade For J.R. Smith

RealGM said:
The Bulls and Nuggets are discussing a trade that would send J.R. Smith to Chicago.

The Denver guard is in the final year of his contract and would give the Bulls another scoring option in their backcourt.

I'm not really sure how this could even work salary wise.

I'm sure Chicago wants to get rid of James Johnson, but who could they honestly give up that would make Denver commit to this trade? I'm guessing they would want a big, but Chicago would have to be mentally ill to give up Taj Gibson for J.R. Smith. Asik maybe?

Has to be Gibson. We've seen that Chicago is desperate to start Bogans at SG. Smith (questionable starter) is a clear upgrade, Denver needs bigs (starting Shelden Williams :lol).

Going to have to wait a few days I think - Chicago can only trade Johnson, Gibson, Rose, Noah, Asik or Deng before the restriction is lifted for trading FA's.

Brewer is the only one with a similar salary too, although the Bulls are under the cap but about 700k so maybe they can take back more?

If I am Chicago, I would be going for Affalo instead. He is a much more stable, less dumb decisions and a much better shooter than JR.

But i'm guessing Denver knows that too, which is why they are only offering a JR.

I don't buy the J.R. Smith rumors. Remember, the Bulls gave him away for basically nothing because they did not want such a headcase on the team. Pax probably called about Affalo, Denver declined, offered J.R. Smith and Pax hung up the phone.

I don't think I want JR Smith. Brewer's looking like he's going to get more play than Bogans, and they'll stick with that until they can find a replacement. Afflalo would be perfect, but I don't think Denver is parting with him. That's the only way I give up Taj though, he's turning into a real part of the Bulls core and the guys like him. No way they throw him out the door for JR. Asik I could see maybe, he looked fairly useless lately.

A pretty remarkable thing happened on Sunday: Tim Duncan played in the fourth quarter. That’s right. Duncan logged all of 2:18 in the final quarter of San Antonio’s easy win over Portland, ending his streak of three straight games in which he did not see the floor at all in the fourth.

There is room for healthy debate about the significance of the NBA’s regular season, but you cannot debate that it is long, and that it’s a very good thing when one of your most important (and oldest) guys can relax on the bench almost as much as he plays.

Duncan is logging just 28.8 minutes per game this season, easily the lowest mark of his career. Over the Spurs’ past five games, he has played a total of 9:45 in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Pau Gasol is having the opposite experience in Los Angeles. He has logged at least 38 minutes in nine of the Lakers’ last 10 games, and he has eclipsed the 41-minute mark in seven of those games. The 30-year-old is playing more minutes than he has at any point in his career, and he’s doing it despite a sore hamstring.

It may be only December, roughly a quarter of the way through the season, but early-season minutes affect the latter months of the season. The Lakers’ core isn’t young anymore, and they’re coming off three consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals. And they are killing themselves — or killing Gasol, at least — to squeak out Sunday-afternoon wins in New Jersey before Christmas.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are cruising at 20-3, and they’re about to overtake the Lakers in the league’s offensive efficiency rankings. Even worse news for the league: Their defense is playing quite well, despite the inevitable hand-wringing from coach Gregg Popovich. (Duncan had the quote of the day when someone asked him whether Popovich would be satisfied that San Antonio’s defense held Portland to 78 points: “Absolutely not. What did they score? Like 70-something points. That’s 70-something reasons for him to complain.” Classic.)

The Spurs are allowing just 102.4 points per 100 possessions. That’s the eighth-best mark in the league, but it would have led the NBA last season. If the Spurs can continue playing defense up to Popovich’s standards, they should shoot up the defensive ranks as the league’s scoring average (down a point so far this season) begins to increase, as usual.

The early-season rest has clearly helped San Antonio, and it begs the question: Is it time to declare the Spurs at least the co-favorite in the Western Conference? Or even to declare the Spurs-Mavs-Lakers tri-favorites? The Spurs are four games up on the Lakers in the loss column, and before you point out San Antonio’s weak schedule, take a look at which team has played the weakest schedule in the league, according to John Hollinger’s power rankings: the Lakers. Hollinger’s strength-of-schedule rankings aren’t the end-all, but they are a solid measure of a team’s quality of opponents.

Duncan won’t be able to take fourth-quarter vacations against the best teams, but after years of bad injury luck, everything is going as well as could possibly be expected in San Antonio. And if that keeps up, I see no reason not to declare the Spurs at least co-favorites in the West.

Can we all agree that PER is a complete joke? Kobe has always been blasted by the stat dorks for not dominating the league in PER. Well, he's up to #2 in the league now but would anyone argue that this has been a great season for him up to this point? :lol

It makes sense, Shaq was averaging the same amount of minutes at that age (with more points scored). This is the sound of old bigs fading away.

We already tanked for young talent. Thats what the last few season were about.

Now we have our G-Hill MVP and are ready to stack the rings baby :D

Check the stat sheets baby. Pau logged 31 mins tonight after averaging 40+ the last 4 games.

Bynum doin' worth!

Its the Wizards...

Lakers could have played Caracter the entire game and won. Pau would have played low minutes regardless of Bynum.

It was also the wizards without wall and blatche...we're winning the third game when we get our two best players back :lol

:lol

Reading the Raptors board on Realgm debating the merits of the Blazers castaway non-PGs like Jack and Bayless is hilarious. It's like watching a NBA game on DVR when you already know the ending.

Sorry, but that argument is invalid. He played 43 mins against Washington the last time they played least you forget. He also played 40+ against the Brooklyn fucking Farmars not three days ago. Not to mention 40+ against the Raptors and Sacramento...

This was also the second lowest amount of time he's played in the past 11 games.

Bynum. Doin'. Worth.

You guys better be epic in the chat tonight, because Bron Bron is looking to drop a Fatality on my soul.

CLE @ MIA wheeeeeeee

Really?

Lol playoffs. We're 20-3. We've already won the November championship. We are about to secure the December one.

The Lakers didn't stop us from stacking those rings, so whats to say they will do any better in May and June :lol

Damn, you guys already burnt your 2 games against Washington already? We're storing those Ws for later in the season.

But at least that other Wiz kids game had Wall (no Blatche still lolz). Point is that as long as you guys dick around for the first few quarters, hes going to be playing a lot of minutes. Bynum's lazy ass isn't going to help you guys stomp on people's throats.

Duncan: 662 total 2010 season minutes
Gasol: 975 total 2010 season minutes (5th in the league, +3 straight full playoff runs and international ball)

You guys are going to kill him.

He will. The Cavs' souls have already been crushed, they're probably playing the worst ball of anyone in the league right now.

Nah, he'll be fine going forward. We'll finish up as usual, at the top.

When do we actually play against them boys from the Alamo? Like Jan?

I feel like this ends with Anthony Randolph on the Wolves.

I miss that humble Spurs fan who would be happy if the Spurs could reach 50 wins this season. I wonder what happened to that guy.

So no Shaq tonight for Boston against the much-maligned Knicks.

In the shocking event that the Cs are dealt a loss, is this the built-in excuse? I figured I'd address it before gametime, assuming that MSG doesn't re-collapse and cause the game to be cancelled again or something.

[EDIT: If the Wolves would part with a pick and Telfair for AR, that might actually occur since it would satisfy Donnie's need for draft picks, and a quasi-competent PG to give Felton 10 minutes off a night.]

More like Roger Mason and/or Bill Walker - though knowing Kahn, he's probably asking for Fields. :lol
Wolves assistant GM Tony Ronzone loves Randolph. And Ronzone is the guy who actually makes the talent evaluations now.

It really wouldn't surprise me to see Randolph come back. Wolves have those Memphis and Utah picks they'd probably part with.

If the Knicks win tonight, I give all of Knicks-age a free pass to talk as much shit as they want. A free pass!

smh @ the lack of respect for the defending champs.

Presti needs to trade Krstic while he still has value. About his only skills that are notable are his ability to hit 15-footers consistently as a big man, and his inability to realize that his HAIR IS NOT COMING BACK. You're a millionaire, do something about that shit.

And while I love Ibaka, it astounds me how much better we would be if we weren't so atrocious at defensive rebounding (part of which has a lot to do with his obsession with piling up blocks). Work some magic, Presti, or start giving Aldrich steroids.

Sucks about the game though, too. Never fun to drag along a sad-sack, especially if things don't go perfectly for the Thunder. My brother is like this at OSU games, every time something goes wrong the fucking sky is falling.

Shades of old. Good to see T-Mac still has it. Hope this game gives him confidence to play more like this the rest of the season. :D

vs. Hawks (12/14/10)

26 min
5-9 FG
4-6 3PT
2-2 FT
6 reb (0 off)
3 ast
1 stl
1 blk
1 TO
2 PF
16 pts

God that stadium is empty.

And as much as I'd love for him to come back, that game was a fluke. He got hot from 3. Anyone with a jumpshot can do that. Sad to say, but thats about as good of a game as he can have now.

Old Mac would have done a little better than score one bucket in the paint with Damien Wilkens guarding him.

Kings notes: Evans decides to sit out, rest injured ankle

The Sacramento Bee said:
HOUSTON – When Tyreke Evans watches film of himself from recent games, he doesn't like what he sees.

And it was enough to help him decide to take some time off, though he doesn't know for how long.

The second-year Kings guard missed Tuesday night's 118-105 loss to the Houston Rockets because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Evans had resisted sitting out because of the injury.

"It is frustrating because in my mind I think I can go," Evans said. "I just watched some of the film of my layups, and I'm not getting the same lift that I used to last year. It's just a matter of me taking my time, but I'm so anxious to play I've got to try to figure out what I'm going to do."

Kings coach Paul Westphal doesn't sound as if he wants to rush Evans back.

Evans is traveling with the Kings while he continues his treatment and rehabilitation program. He said he would like to play tonight at New Orleans or perhaps Friday at Oklahoma City.
"I don't necessarily expect there to be some magic thing about (today) and that he'll wake up and feel great," Westphal said. "We want him to feel great before he plays."

It was the first game Evans has missed this season because of injury. He didn't play in the season opener at Minnesota because of a league suspension for his no-contest plea to reckless driving.

Evans decided to try some rest after speaking with the team before leaving for Houston on Monday. Yet his desire to play makes him want to get back on the court sooner than later if that means waiting until he's fully healthy.

"I think if it don't get no better I might as well play on it," Evans said.

Reunion time – Several former Kings who are now with the Rockets took turns saying hello Tuesday night.

Kevin Martin hugged Evans during the second quarter. Center Brad Miller and Rockets coach Rick Adelman also stopped by the visiting locker room to catch up.

The turnover game – The Kings had 18 turnovers that led to 23 points for the Rockets. The Kings scored 22 off 11 Rockets turnovers.

The Sacramento Bee said:

Oh, Tyreke. You truly are one special kind of idiot. Yeah, just go back and keep aggravating that injury so you end up having to miss half of next season because you're trying to salvage this season. Could somebody put some fucking sense into this kid's head, please? Plantar fasciitis doesn't just GET BETTER overnight.

Uggggghhh

I'm still not giving up on him.

Every once in a long while, he shows signs but it's going to be a long process to get him to acclimate himself to this league.

He needs to work on his "happy feet" when he gets dominant position under or near the basket, he travels more often than not before he finishes.

He is at times decent as a shot blocker but he's always getting fouls called on him which is to be expected but with his size, he shouldn't have to foul all the time.

With all this said, I'd probably like him to stay to see if there's anything there but wouldn't fret if they send him on his way.

Seems a waste though after all the wait.

He has never been so hopefully some good upgrade seats will be available (still waiting to hear from the ticket agent) and we will win otherwise he will be saying "with my luck" a lot. We have an inside joke, for some the glass is half full for others it is half empty. This guy isn't lucky enough to have a glass.

I hate that we don't rebound well since we can have team wide terrible shooting at times.
