The fanservice here was slightly different to the usual dumb, awkward fanservice you find in these kind of works. It was a little creepy, I mean, more so than usual.
As for the episode itself, it was pretty obvious where things were heading in terms of a certain character. As no work has really been done to establish a character, having them perform a certain action has no narrative or emotional weight. Sorry. The dialogue was really bad as wekk. Even for an anime. "She almost looks CG" indeed.
The whole 'void' conceit was used for no useful purpose either. It's like, they're taking a wholly remarkable idea and making it incredibly mundane and boring. It's really the complete opposite of 'interesting'.

Also more of creepy Doctor hitting on Himari. I think he plans to "steal" her away from Kanba and Shouma, since that would be a worse 'punishment' than death.

imas 17: It figures that this episode would be so incredibly heteronormative, including the actual resolution itself. But then again, gimmick characters almost never live up to their gimmick I suppose. I guess a troll could say that this episode did more with gender than Wandering Son did in 11 episodes though.

Absolutely not in any way, no. It's very good, and very similar in tone and style to the original series. Other than the cast, the biggest difference so far is that Last Exile Fam gets serious very quickly -- by episode 2, very serious stuff is going on. I think the original series had a bit more time until the situation got this bad...Masaki_ said:

Best episode so far. As a huge fan of the game, I've enjoyed each episode, but the latest episode was a noticeable improvement.
Music implementation was a lot better, and there were new Meguro original tracks in the mix. The battle scenes were great to watch and I love how they're portrayed compared to the game.
The extra scenes for Yukiko was also a nice touch.
Looking forward to the next episode, as it looks to be focusing on the social elements!

Also, why/how was the grandfather possessing Mario? I mean, he wasn't wearing the hat so it was something else.
