Kinect did not drive MS to outsell Sony WW. And damn, Sony outselling the Wii WW is very surprising. No wonder Nintendo announced Wii 2.
Software side MS is almost absent from Europe.
Galvanise_ said:Then throw in that in Japan, the PSP was a beast in 2010. It was the top selling console there. Big turn around for them there in that region.
Things could be worse in Sony land at present (barring PSN dying). PSP and PS3 doing well, NGP launching soonish. PlayStation Content on more platforms than ever before. Home pulling in lots of money. Strong line up of games for PS3, PSP and NGP. Etc.
I thought Kinect would have a bigger effect in the EU than it appears to have done. I knew it would sink in Japan. I wonder how well the PS3 would have done with a higher quality range of games for Move, and a bit more marketing. Hmm.

scently said:Erm...to properly gauge the effect of Kinect you need to compare it to how the 360 was selling relative to the PS3 before the introduction of Kinect.
Since this is a Q1 2011 result, the appropriate comparison would be against Q1 2010, then you can be able to discern if the Kinect has made any significant impact or not.

Still badly needs a price cut in the UK though. £230 is just too much.

It's maybe not as big as people would have thought but you have to take in account that in some European countries the Xbox was known as "the other console that it's not a Playstation".
OK, this a weird top 20 or else the recent March NPD is very poor. I mean Homefront 360 version is at #8, but Dragon Age II which was one place after Homefront in the NPD doesn't show up here. The split between platforms must be unsual for no version to show, or that it really didn't sell that well.
Nintendo's previous charts from NPD have not combined multiple versions (e.g: limited edition) of the same game. NPD combines them for their monthly top 10. But I guess the explanation here is really on platform share: Homefront and Bulletstorm sold a lot more for the 360, while Dragon Age II had a more even split.Saty said:OK, this a weird top 20 or else the recent March NPD is very poor. Adding to that is the case of Bulletstorm. In Feb. NPD the game sold only 285.6K copies across 3 platforms. It wasn't in the top 10 of the March NPD and its not probable the game did extremely well in its second month, but the 360 version closes the chart at #20? WTF? Better than what DA2 did either on 360 or PS3 in its #4 debut in the March NPD? I'm not even going to think what it means for the version of Crysis 2 which afterall were on sale for 2 weeks in that NPD period.
Either this Nintendo chart is inaccurate (highly unlikely, it's straight from the NPD group) or that the March NPD software numbers are pretty weak *gulp*.
Nintendo takes these software numbers directly from trackers. What you see for US is given from NPD.Saty said:Either this Nintendo chart is inaccurate (highly unlikely, it's straight from the NPD group) or that the March NPD software numbers are pretty weak *gulp*.
Not really. The truth is much simpler: this generation already is 5 years old. Sales aren't that interesting anymore when the bigger picture is more or less set in stone.klee123 said:Yep, it's only when Sony is losing is when the usual group goes wild with the posting. If not, stop being jerks to posters who are trying to discuss things and stirring up an artificial console war.
Massa said:Sales-age threads are filled with one-liners that add nothing but ignorance to the discussion and only serve to show that person's bias (as the post you replied to, btw). That's probably 90% of these threads, which are numerous in posts and nearly empty in actually interesting discussion.
Arguing against that part of NeoGAF's culture is impossible. Only the mods can change that.![]()

Also, the PSP is not doing as horrible as I was led to believe.

Kam said:So, PS3 is doing really well then, even at the higher price point.
How likely is it that we see a price cut for it this year? I was originally thinking it would drop to £199 by September. I wanted to get my older brother a console and I can imagine some really good deals around November time. The free online and blu-ray makes it a no brainer as a gift. Right now, there aren't many cheap deals without the Move (which he won't care for). The best you can hope for is around £230.
I was sure a price cut would happen this year, but this doesn't exactly scream out to me that one is undoubtedly happening if they're remaining this competitive and outselling the competition. For all I know, they stick to their guns and make some more money, if it continues to perform well, then drop it next year.
I will continue to hope though. One day it will drop a little more. And that day is sometime this year. I believe.

They don't always release them, I recall the lack of these charts when they last had their investors meeting. Basically Nintendo won't really pull up charts if there's not much to talk about, they usually focus on userbase demography instead.specialguy said:I was wondering how come we didn't get these Nintendo charts last quarter? Nintendo does release them every quarter, right?
