if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
I always felt that it was best to have a team full of players that had a purpose for your game plan. Not every player is going to be great, but they should be able to do something to add to the team. A team with an all star guard and center would want to have a deadly 3 point shooter. That shooter wouldn't need to have great handles or be a great defender since the guard will create opportunities and the center can help erase a lot of his mistakes. It isn't too expensive to get a guy who is just really good at shooting and not much else. You wouldn't want that same player on a team that has no ball handlers already or already has a bad defense.

I think getting specialist players is what you do last to plug holes

Every decent lottery pick has gotten 10m or so these past few years.

No GM has to pay OJ 10m a year because he isnt a restricted FA. He is making 4 million right now. Why would any GM offer him 10 or more before anybody else does? He will get low-balled.

I'm just glad Houston already made their move for Harden. They would have been primed and ready to throw money at OJ if he continues to play well. And being a complete free agent means he could get more money. When you are restricted, you're only going to get paid what the market bids for you. As a free agent, he can hold out for what he wants until he gets it. I don't see why OJ at 10m if he becomes an efficient 20,5,5 is bad. That seems on par with what you would pay somebody for playing the "Robin" role to somebody's "Batman".

Shouldn't be he was a PG project for a bit in Mem

I actually hardly ever watched Mayo while he was in Memphis, but I was hearing on some forums that his handles were bad and to be honest, he seemed to have problems with them in preseason.

Great to see that he is able to handle the ball well, I just hope to see him start attacking the rim a bit more. I know RC had him work on mainly his jumpshot all summer, but I wonder how much they've worked on attacking the basket.

You know guys, after watching a couple of highlights from bynum last year, i'm starting miss the guy. Yeah yeah yeah, howard is better defensively and what not but watching his offense these past few games has been an eyesore...Maybe winning can change that, maybe. Oh, not forgetting the obligatory firemikebrown.

Well yeah, that's what I mean. You find stars, then find cheap prospects, then find solid players that are within your price range, then you find cheap specialists. But they should all serve a purpose. And that purpose should revolve around what kind of identity your stars bring to your team.

Actually I gotta give love to Brandan Wright. Dude has been ballin this year. It's like he never misses around the rim, and now he's able to shoot a jumper? If only he can keep healthy!

Mayo doesn't have bad handles. He doesn't have a problem maintaining the ball in his hands for a play. The problem is that he isn't a spectacular iso ball handler for getting to the rim. He does it in spurts, but he loves to dribble and create space for a midrange jumper.

The new CBA taxes really start to kick in next summer. He isnt getting 10 plus unless he avgs 30 here on out, imo.

Players like Derozen's contracts don't really kick in until next year. You're basically saying that unless he becomes MJ, he won't get paid. That's ridiculous.

Wright and Ed Davis both should have stayed in school longer

And no GM had to pay derozan 11M per

No GM has to pay anyone, 11M per.

He's making 4M now on the rookie scale, next year you pay him, or he walks, you won't even get the benefit of him being a RFA, and being able to match.

People will pay him because IF he does put up 20-5-5 efficiently, those are really great numbers for a SG in this NBA.

I don't think Wright's game was hurt by lack of college play, but Wright's body definitely wasn't NBA-ready. I know he put on like 15 lbs in the offseason, which seems to have helped him not get outmuscled as much. He doesn't really look bigger, but he definitely has been playing stronger this year.

Its ridiculous, but thats exactly what Im saying.

Lets say the bucks offered 4 for 44 next summer. Why would Cuban counter that with more money, for OJ Mayo, considering tax implications?

More power to OJ and his agent if he gets 10 next summer.

Based on rookie scale, he got what everybody else got.

OJ is out that running. He will get less.

Why would the Bucks offer him 4/44 when they have Monte Ellis and Brandon Jennings? And your example is essentially an example of OJ getting payed. This isn't a question of will Dallas match OJ's best offer from others. This is a question of will OJ get paid anywhere.

Naw his footwork was horrible

And was small

And lost confidence

Staying in school could have fixed alot of that

They match in seconds because SG is the toughest spot to fill in the NBA at the moment?

And with out him they're starting Vince Carter?

But you just asked me if Bucks payed him, why would Cuban counter offer. Your argument that OJ won't get paid is "If Bucks pay him, Cuban won't". But the Bucks just paid him! So he did get paid!

At ten million or more, I dont believe he will.

He lucks out and gets 10 from somebody else, I dont see Cuban matching.

But players do luck out and get paid.

Salt Lake City police Detective Josh Ashdown said a pair of Utah Jazz fans were attending the basketball game Wednesday night when they started trash talking with a pair of Lakers fans.

The discussion escalated and the Lakers fans challenged the Jazz fans to a fight, which they declined, Ashdown said.

Security threw the two Lakers' fans out of the game, but they apparently decided to stick around to continue the confrontation with the Jazz fans, he said.

The Lakers' fans spotted the Jazz fans standing on the corner of 100 South and 400 West and started trash talking again.

At that point, one of the Lakers' fans pulled out pepper spray fogger and let loose with it, police said.

Stay classy Lakers fans

SG is even more barren than C in the league
