Cheers, I thought the picture looked slightly blurry and sometimes depending on how you downsample the IQ actually becomes worse ( which it really really shouldn't ). I resized the original picture to 1600x900 using mspaint in w7.

Open both up and switch between them and you'll notice that the paint version is sharper/less blurry :)

I feel like the re-size function in MS paint applies a sharpening affect that isn't present when I'm playing the game. When I used it in the past, it would make the objects and surfaces in my shots come out looking a lot more jagged than I remember. I saw some really heavy stair-stepping on the tree branches in the back of the BF3 shot that was resized in MS paint. I think the results for downsampled shots are better when using Photoshop or free programs like Irfanview and Photoscape.

Get Paint.NET. I've used that and haven't noticed anything negative about it as far as resizing goes. And it's free (and almost as good as Photoshop in parts).

So wait, is downsampling something that is done in-game, or is it done to the image after you take a screenshot?

it's more like, the screen is being displayed in a higher resolution than your screen can do. the image is being shrunk down and the aliasing with it. when you take a screenshot, the picture is taken of the raw higher res input so the image it self is too large for the screen. so to share it to people displaying in 1080p or something, you have to shrink the picture it self.

Just know that they play it downsampled. it isn't done later.

Just dropped about $1100 for this new rig to upgrade from my old tired 4890 and AMD CPU.

3570k i5
Single Gigabyte 670
8 GB of DDR3

Nothing overclocked yet.

I think I might be able to downsample from higher, but when I try to go higher, from say 2560x1440, I get a flickering white line at the top of my screen with the rest of the picture being black..

It's kindof an old monitor though.

You should be able to get 2880x1620 and 3200x1800 at 60Hz. 3840x2160 with some manual settings. 54 Hz I think.

I get the same white line and black screen with anything above 3200x1800 btw. It's a driver or card issue.

Does it mean I'm ok to save that setting if I get the white line? It seriously wont let me go about the res I'm using now without it doing that :(

I downsample in Photoshop. I find it's results to be by far the best.

That's what I've been using as well, but now people using Paint have made me reconsider. I'm using Photoshop CS6 and when you resize images it automatically applies a sharpness filter to the image, however it doesn't really seem to make it all that sharp. Resizing the same image using Paint does not seem to apply any filter and it actually looks sharper than the Photoshopped image.

The same Skyrim screenshot, 1440p with 4xMSAA and transparency multisampling. Top one is resized in Photoshop, the bottom one in Paint. Open each in a new tab to see the differences.

The difference isn't huge, but I think I prefer the one done in Paint. It looks much more crisp and I can't seem to replicate that in Photoshop.

It set itself to 'Bicubic Automatic' as the default for resizing images.

It's a context sensitive setting that chooses the appropriate smoother or sharper resampling option depending on what you type in. All of my previous downsampled images have automatically used the Bicubic Sharper option and while it does look good I see people posting sharper images and was curious as to how they got them that sharp.

Share, please.

Enb used.
any notable modifications.

Also are those the same tesselation textures that've been out? or did the guy make more?

The ENB mod is Skyrim Jasmin ENB final (Im using middle quality)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26412

The texture mod is Skyrim HD - 2K Textures
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607

And the parallax mod are the Project Parallax ones

Just make sure you use the HD2K parallax ones to match the texture mod.

Ah, makes sense.

I've got the Project Parallax but I detest Skyrim HD. So that's why I don't recognize the parallax textures.

Jasmin's looking good since I last used it...

Wish someone would work on more parallax mapping in the game.

Here's my parallax shot from a while ago....

Also a friend of mine and I decided to do the Jumping puzzle achievements in Guild Wars 2...

First success!

Just tried downsampling from 3200x1800 (the game ran at about 10fps lol)

iQNqhPtja9XQ6.png

Is the game looking that good just from downsampling or any specific tweaks to the user.ini?

Do you have sharpen on?

Even with ubersampling the game doesn't look that good here (I just played on the arena though). I'll try downsampling from 1440p today.

Just to look at though, with uber on it runs at 30~38 fps in 1080p, I'd rather leave it off to run at 60, it's so good <3

God those trees on the right are terrible, like it reminds me of something out of Everquest.
Mxgt: What are your settings? Is this ultra/max?

Any chance of posting some 2560x1440p? (or is that frowned upon)
I'd like to see it in that res, since that is what I'd be playing with.
Christ the trees don't even appear to be three dimensional. Not that resolution will change that. But maybe those assets were just overlooked or something.

Can you grab a couple screens from another location, and link to 1440p?
(I know I'm asking a lot!). Thanks :)

Also: Is there a choice between rendering via Dx9 and Dx11? Or is it DX11 all the way?
