You're talking about regular season basketball dude. Good teams in the playoffs will run teams off threes and clog the paint.

A open mid range shot is better than most contested layups against elite defensive teams. The near basket efficiency stats are inflated because it includes 100% conversation rates of fast break layups, alley oops, put back dunks.

You're a damn Miami fan, you're acting like Miami didn't just win a chip off of two wide open mid range Lebron jump shot game winners 6 months ago

CHICAGO—Close friends and family confirmed Tuesday that Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has remained completely silent for the past 17 days, failing to utter one word since learning that the torn meniscus in his right knee will cause him to miss a second consecutive season. “Derrick just sits there; he hasn’t even moved,” said Rose’s friend Andre Hamlin, adding that the three-time All-Star spends most of the day on the couch staring at the ceiling. “Yesterday he inhaled deeply like he was about to say something, but then he just sighed and changed the TV channel he was watching.” Rose’s mother, Brenda, reportedly visited over the weekend and told her pajama-wearing son to remain positive in the face of adversity—an encouragement sources said the 2011 NBA MVP responded to with a shrug.

I'm lamenting the death of the mid range game. This is D'Antoni style basketball during the regular season. You win chips when you can knock down open mid range shots because that's the easiest open shot to get in the nba

That's still my view on the game

The midrange shot is statistically the most worthless. You should only ever take it if you have nothing else. There's a reason it's not featured anymore.

Uh yea. You don't watch basketball man, you just run numbers. The difference between games 1-4 and game 7 for Lebron was he was making his mid range shots. Basketball isn't a damn computer simulator, not all shots are equally open.

Open mid range shot is far better than contested threes or contested layups against Duncan or Hibbert or another good rim protector.

Those kind of shot charts won't happen in the CF or Finals, that's not how u win

Rewatch game 7 Lebron highlights. Bron does nothing but threes and layups until 4th quarter than he hits like 4 mid range shots.

Dirk
Jordan
Kobe

won multiple chips off midrange shots. Lebron started winning when his midrange shot improved. You guys are like a broken record "mid range shots are not as efficient as threes and layups". Lol duh. But to win chips you have to be able to knock those mid range shots down. You're not going to get to avoid shooting them in the playoffs. That only shoot layups or 3 shit is D'Antoni regular season basketball and not how the game actually works

That layup is a rarity. If he could finish at the rim and had the ability to dribble and pass he'd be a stud. Taking him off the ball is the best thing that has ever happened to him though.

I meant his vastly improving shooting ability and defense.

Should have never been on the ball in the first place. Part of the reason this team embarrassed the Knicks last postseason.

If your only consistently open shot is a midrange shot then that's a damning indictment of your offense. Yes, a heavily contested three or contested shot at the rim is typically a bad thing, that's why entire schemes are developed in order to make those shots as open as possible. No good offense schemes for 19-footers anymore, for good reason.

Vag bringing up Lebron in game 7 is hilarious, as if he didn't keep his team ahead in that game by jacking a million open threes.

You guys are so passionate about your "enlightenment" towards the game you've lost your damn minds lol.

How many chips have been won with consistent mid range shots? And Lebron shot a bunch of open 3's because he struggled shooting all damn series. Spurs were giving him that shot. Rewatch it, they don't even close out. Once he made a few they started taking it away.

Yes getting wide open 3's is great, so is fast break wide open layups, but that's now how playoff basketball works. Show me a shot chart with just 3's and layups in the finals and I'll shut up, but that's not how the games work

Edit: lol 19 footers aren't mid range shots. Those are long 2's

Teams that win titles have superstars. Superstars are so good that you want to maximize their possessions regardless if the quality of shot is that good, therefore superstars often shoot midrange jumpers. Therefore teams that win titles often shoot midrange jumpers. Okay, fine. What does this have to do with other guys on the offense, an offense in general, or teams without a superstar (AKA, almost every team in the league)?
