why wouldn't it be okay to run to the media about what you're asked in a job interview though? it's not like that shit's confidential

He's just salty that people are infringing on his illegal desire to ask people if they're Green-voting gays in job interviews (no really).

Most politics talk on Facebook is vapid, depressing at the lack of knowledge displayed and just shit but I saw this the other day and felt it was pretty spot on.

Had 1592 fb shares at the time of posting.
You should link to it so we can share too, tiger.

I think he might have some misapprehensions of what the 'gay lifestyle' is like. From what I can tell, the gay lifestyle is pretty much like the normal lifestyle, in that there's an infinite variety of configurations for that lifestyle except for the whole gender preference thing.

Anyone watching Q & A? I'm not sure what to think of this. I wish there were better questions.

Well the clear takeaway is that Hockey is basically just throwing out talking points that are only barely related to the questions and trying to dump on Labor at every opportunity

Yes. I guess you could say I was hoping for more. But I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. There are some interesting clarifications though.

He also just fucked up the reduction of the newstart no-welfare benefit - said it was a year p/full year employment, but it's a month p/full year employment

/edit seems to have gotten wind of that. Probably just a spoken misttep, but still a bad look overall

It's pretty obvious what agenda news.com.au has now...

http://www.news.com.au/finance/econ...ce-chapman/story-fn84fgcm-1226924825918?pg=1#

That selective comment approval...

It seems the strategy now is to put out articles as neutral as can be - then allow all the comments that suit your viewpoint the best - lots of people nowadays just scan the headline and head into the comments.

That social proof...

Annabel Crabb had an excellent piece on this earlier this week, choice quote:

Among the hardest-hit are firebrand conservative columnists, whose crucial supply of rant-fuel has been cut off abruptly by the newly released national fiscal blueprint...

Hearing Alan Jones say that an increase to fuel prices is a good thing, as it will drive down the use of a scarce resource had me rolling.

Cross-post, for our American (and other) friends:

It's a good summary for those unfamiliar with just how much of a tool our current PM is.

And then there’s the irreverent hashtag #MorePopularThanAbbott, which suggests that both toilet paper and flat tires are more popular than the prime minister.

Haha, I love it.

Can't believe I've never seen these guys before. They're great!

Absolutely! And while a lot of it might be difficult to dig up, there would have to be around three decades worth of content from them in the ABC archives, as funny today as ever.

When I told this to my co-workers yesterday, they stared at me in disbelief.
I'm confused as to how I'm managed to miss them for so long too.

It's okay, there is still time to make up for your oversight. Sort of boggles my mind that anyone interested in politics hasn't seen them. Won't hold it against you though :)

Friday nights on A Current Affair. When they actually had on current affairs, before they turned into another version of every fucking breakfast/morning show on the planet.

They must be loving this shit. Giving them ammunition for days. John Clarke is so bang-on with his impersonations it's ridiculous. He does an amazing Hockey (and Abbott for that matter).

PS. Don't forget that show they did. I can't remember what it was... I know they did The Games, but didn't they do something else as well?

I don't know if Holycheck still reads this thread but he was talking about the wait for Newstart and I was just reading this which is interesting:

People under 30 with no work history will be subject to a
six month waiting period to access Newstart Allowance or
Youth Allowance (Other). Each previous year of full-time
equivalent employment reduces the waiting period by a
month (capped at five months). These restrictions will not
apply to those in education or training.
From the Centre for Independent Studies. If they're correct that means everyone* has a wait, of at least a month which runs contrary to what we thought before.

This is reading like a ploy to force people into education/training with uncapped fees (since there's no upfront cost) and then saddling them with massive debt in order to pour massive amounts of money into the hands of training/education providers.

If the federal government just wanted to pump money into those sectors, couldn't they just skip the middle man step of forcing people into the choice of : debt or starvation ?

This has the added bonus of reducing the bargaining power of workers. Or rather, the money flowing to private education is the added bonus, the stratification of society is the goal. Can't forget that the government giving money to the sector reduces the individual's reliance on the provision of private capital, whereas forcing them into debt increases it.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Question from a non Aussie fellow Commonwealth person. Are these changes things that the current government ran as a platform to get elected? Some of this stuff is just...WOW!

Some of them are things they specifically ran on not doing actually (education cuts, pension cuts, deficit levy and fuel excise increases, health funding cuts) .

But they did run on bringing the budget back into surplus. Which they've now decided is their over arching core promise which trumps all other commitments.

They did run on being absolutely horrible to refugees but in fairness our center-left party was right on board that particular bandwagon.

So balancing the books outweighs the metric shit ton of promises they're breaking in their minds? Not being able to get the budget back into a surplus might piss off some people, but this move of theirs is guaranteed to piss off a lot more.

A part of the reaction is that this party went so heavily on the attack when they were in opposition, when the previous government wanted to institute a tax they didn't go to an election with. It was a big issue for them that they hammered into people's minds for three years, so their hypocrisy is harder to underplay.
