Vettes make em wet

Not very familiar with the C6 Z06 or ZR1, I take it?
Work on them. Talk to a gm tech that works on them. They are poorly built and engineered in just about every measurable way. But if 0 to 60 speed and quarter miles = great car, I guess that would be the only salient argument you could make in regards to those cars.

Huh? The C5 was damn good looking in it's day and still looks good today. It has timeless lines that don't heavily date the car, add to that good power and good performance.

C4's are stuck in limbo forever with a design that aged quickly and horribly, uninspired design with performance that was easily outmatched by it's predecessor.

The C4 is the the most undesirable model of Corvette to date and it looks like it will stay that way for a long time.

C5's are too bulky looking. They have that jellybean shape that was popular on all of the cars in the late 90's early 2000s. I hate the flat ass on them. I know it's supposed to be a homage to the C3's but I don't like it. No question they are better made cars than previous Corvettes, but in terms of aesthetic design, they are my least favorite. My ranking is C2>C3>C1>C6>C4>C5

I'll have to see the C7 in person, but so far, I like the front and side angles but not the rear.

Why are you dismissing their considerable handing ability? The recent high performance vettes are likely the best handling cars they've ever built.

Some details

Body is no longer fiberglass but is now almost totally made out of carbon fiber, ala Lexus LFA......least expensive car ever to use CF body panels

Car has next generation of magnetorheological dampers more advanced than the magnetorheological dampers used on the Audi R8, and Ferrari 458 or F12

7speed ZF manual (ala Porsche 991) or 8 speed asin auto (ala Lexus ISF)

Base Price slightly over 50K

Final HP at least 471 BHP

Look, the vette is like the mustang. You aren't going to convince anybody that it is anything but great if they are a fan of the body style.

Poorly built and engineered how? They break down constantly? Or?

Carbon Fiber body even on the base model? That's surprising.

Beautiful, but if I didn't already know it was a corvette I would think it was a ferrari, should have atleast kept the round taillights

I heard that the Vette will have the reverse gear below 7th.

Bit of trivia: What was the first car to have transverse mounted leaf springs for all four wheels?

Answer: The 1984 Corvette.

Ya, that's how US cars usually handled it. I haven't had a "new" car in a while though so wasn't sure if they changed it.

$50K for a near fully carbon-fiber, 470+ HP icon car. Sounds like a great deal to me!

WTF, that makes no sense. You are more likely to be in 1 when shifting to reverse, not 7.

OT: I used to own an '07 C6Z06

I currently drive a 2011 GTR premium (with the mods I have I am currently getting 600+ awd HP) and the car is actually a little TOO fast for me (lol)

I plan on trading it it on a 2nd year 2014 Z51 C7 corvette....which I anticipate will be a better balanced, but still fast car

I really, really love the C7 design.....obvious v12 front engined Ferrari influences (599 GTO, F12) which is a good thing, IMO :)

Maybe they're small aero tunnels on the body like Ferrari implemented on 458 and F12.

They are exactly that.....

Primary function is to increase negative air pressure (downforce) over the rear wheels....

Secondary function is to help cool rear brakes and tranny-transaxle/differential

Lessons learned on the track by the C6R will be implemented in this car.....

Has nothing to do with region of car manufacturer.

What's the reason then? The german cars I have have had it top left and US cars have had it bottom right, even when they have the same number of gears.

Every 5 speed manual I've driven has been like this:

But every car I've driven with a manual has been American or Japanese.

Ya, US and Japan have always done that and european cars like opal and vw have it top left where you have to push down on the shifter to more it further top left than 1st gear. At least in my experience.

speaking of which
can not wait now to see the C7R

Some of them just do. The Mustang's reverse gear is top left too; it depends on the transmission designer.

Ah, didn't know that.

Edit: Is it a more recent thing for US cars? I literally can't think of any cars from the 80s or 90s in the US that had R in the top left. I can see it more now with parts being sourced differently now.

Man that's annoying. I drive a 5 speed and it gets annoying shifting gears constantly, can't imagine what it'd be like with a 7 speed. I'll stick with 6 for my next car :)

Where do you drive that you're constantly shifting with a 5 speed?

O.o

Had no idea they were releasing this.

Though those tail lights in the R&T reveal look to reminiscent to the Camaro's tail lights, which I despise.

Well, you can always skip gears. The Tremec transmission in the C6/Camaro/Challenger/CTS-V actually makes you go from 1st to 4th if your revs are in a certain range.

In the eye of the beholder I suppose. When I bought my Malibu, which has a 6 speed auto, it felt to me like it was shifting a lot, because I was used to my Olds, which has a 3 speed auto. It shifts at around 15 mph and 35 mph.

Wut?

So, if you're really hammering it and redlining through 1st and you slam it down thinking it will hit 2nd....it goes to 4th?!?

That's awful...

I guess so. I have a 5 speed manual and even with my shitty countryish roads it doesn't feel like I have to shift too often. It makes me sad they're using less gears in manuals now for more basic cars and they get worse gas mileage because of it. I love my manuals. :(
