Croatian singer/starlette Nives Celzius just published her new WorldCup video, "Take Me To Brazil"

Croatia is pretty crazy every time around WorldCup, especially the production of fan-songs. This WorldCup we probably have 320 of them :)

For this Croatia has my vote in group A. Bravo sir.

Ok the Netherlands better bring it this game like they did against Lolliga. Can't sleep on the Aussies. My cousin (in Rotterdam) and I are going to video chat during the game when she comes back home. Let's do this.

According to the BBC...

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has to decide whether or not to drop Iker Casillas and play Pepe Reina in goal.

Fellow keeper David De Gea has a buttock muscle injury.

De Gea has an arse injury. Probably splinters from staying on the bench against the Dutch.

To everyone feeling confident about Spain getting eliminated tonight: put your money where your mouth is

I put my money on a draw, which technically leaves Spain still in the World Cup. I'm out.

damn I'm so fucking nervous about today's match. I really hope we beat 5pa1n, but that would mean playing our best match in a World Cup since... well, pretty much since 1962. Sadly, I think we're going to see a case of "jugamos como nunca, perdimos como siempre": we played like never before, but lost as we always do.

On the other hand, I'm hoping Alexis himselfs beats their condescending asses to the fucking ground. I'm tired of him being looked down upon by the spanish press even when he's playing well. He was even made a scapegoat for Barca's terrible performances, for a while! So yeah, I really hope he gets his revenge.

Can we get a 1st round team of the tournament going?
BRA x MEX was technically second round, so no Ochoa at GK.

Wilbur's team was pretty good, just swap out Ochoa with some other keeper. I'd say Tim Howard has a case. Was under constant pressure and made a few key saves.

Following is the unofficial 2014 World Cup anthem of the Croatian fans, by Zapresic Boys, "Neopisivo" (eng: Indescribable).

On more serious note, this is far the most positive WorldCup themed-song this year from Croatia, that - surprisingly, given the historical turn of events - cheers for both Croatian and Bosnian team, Ante Cash "Vatreni zmajevi" (eng: Fireteam Dragons, which resolves about the way both teams are called locally - Croatian team is referred as the "Fireteam" among the population, while Bosnian team is called the "Dragons" ):

Muy Bueno if the volume is muted.

Shit just read on Aussie soccer site that Milligan is out for Australia! He's probably one of the most important and experienced players for us, shit!

@GrantWahl: Percentage of possible World Cup points won vs other confederations so far: CONCACAF 67% CONMEBOL 62% UEFA 48% CAF 27% AFC 17%

I posted it yesterday with Ochoa instead, but here's mine:

K Navas (CRC); M Darmian (ITA), R Vlaar (NED), F Rodriguez (MEX), D Blind (NED); L Modric (CRO), A Pirlo (ITA); A Robben (NED), Muller (GER), J Campbell (CRC); R van Persie (NED)

Subs bench:

T Howard (USA), T Silva (BRA), H Moreno (MEX), T Kroos (GER), Sterling (ENG), Valbuena (FRA), Oscar (BRA)

I put this in my pool at work:

Australia - Netherlands: 1-3 (Goal by Cahill for the Aussies and Robben for the Dutch)
Spain - Chili: 1-2
Cameroen - Croatia: 1-2

I think we will get a tough fight against the socceroos but will win by a big enough margin eventually.

Is anyone else doing the online Panini game at the official World Cup site? I'd be happy to set up a Collector's Group or join yours if so.

C'mon Chile and Holland, please both win! Kick Spain out to wash a bit of my heavy sadness about Portugal's state away.

Hoepefully leckie can keep his form from the 2nd half against chile, considering how he was one of the best players at adelaide united at 18, its kind of depressing hes stuck in a low level in europe

K Navas (CRC); M Darmian (ITA), R Vlaar (NED), F Rodriguez (MEX), D Blind (NED); L Modric (CRO), A Pirlo (ITA); A Robben (NED), Muller (GER), J Campbell (CRC); R van Persie (NED)

Subs bench:

T Howard (USA), T Silva (BRA), H Moreno (MEX), T Kroos (GER), Sterling (ENG), Valbuena (FRA), Oscar (BRA)

Thanks. That's actually spot on. I would maybe swap Modric with Oscar but that's it.

Where is Benzegoal? Come on, you can't put him under Sterling

Wow, OT3 already? Unfortunately I'll be going on a trip today and will be able to post a lot less, because the internet of where I'm going sucks

. I'll also lose the Netherlands match because of the trip, but my thoughts will be with my dutch bros, hope you win this one.

Will Felipao continue to blindly stick with his core group or mix it up a bit? What are the press saying down there?

Felipão will keep his team. Hulk is coming back replacing Ramirez, and the player under most pressure is Paulinho.
He was Brazil's second best player in the Confederations Cup and he is MIA in the World Cup so far.
Media and fans want William or Fernandinho in his place but Scolari doesn't give a single fuck.

I have a couple of newbie questions about penalty kicking before the festivities start today. Occasionally during a penalty kick, players will line up in front of the guy doing the kicking like this:

diL0yYI.jpg

I know they're attempting to block or deflect the ball, but what is the difference between this kind of penalty kick versus the kind where a player will just attempt to kick the ball straight into the goal unobstructed (aside from the keeper that is)? Does is depend on the severity of the penalty? What dictates how far away from the player doing the kicking they're supposed to stand? I've also noticed that the number of players attempting to block the ball changes from kick to kick.

Arturo Vidal has compared Chile’s crucial World Cup match against Spain to playing in a high-pressure Champions League game with Juventus.

That's probably not the best approach.

Not sure if it's been posted about Ochoa... but some people (including me) were wondering why he's been "slumming it" in France with an unfashionable club? According to the Guardian, here's why:

Ochoa was one of five Mexico players who tested positive for clenbuterol after a Gold Cup match in 2011 and even though they were cleared two months later when an investigation concluded that they had unwittingly eaten contaminated meat, damage to Ochoa's career had already been done.

"The initial results were announced in May 2011, just before the official opening of the transfer window," the goalkeeper said last year when explaining why a planned move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through. "We were facing a possible ban of one or two seasons. It took two months for our names to be cleared .

By then, all negotiations had been cancelled and contacts disappeared. I understood the clubs. The only team who stayed in touch with me was Ajaccio."

if I understand your question correctly Lox, then it's about the difference between a free kick (the one with a wall) and a penalty kick (the one without). The amount of players in a wall depends on the goalkeeper, unless I'm horribly mistaken.

Hope for an early goal, otherwise it might be our normal struggle against "fit and physical" sides, hope not. Also really looking forward to Spa-Chi, one of the better/entertaining matches last World Cup.

What the picture is showing is called a freekick. A penalty (the kick where it's just the player vs the goalkeeper with no wall) is given when a foul is made inside the box. However, there are times when there can be a freekick inside the box. For example, if a player passes the ball back to the keeper with his foot and the keeper picks it up (which is illegal), then a freekick is given where the keeper picked up the ball, even if it is inside the box. The number of players in the wall on depends on the defending team's preference really.

HEY I know this place! This is happening here in Porto Alegre, my home town! I sadly couldn't afford any tickets, but the atmosphere here is AMAZING! There are tons of Dutchs and Australians all around, all getting along (and getting our girls also). Really cool, WC is delivering
