Decided to give Star Citizen a go with the new GPU. 30FPS at 4K with Nvidias DSR downsampling. Only in free flight though, so no other ships.

How does the boost thing work? Does the clock speed automatically increase when it's under heavy load?

30fps for Star Citizen @4K, is very impressive for a 970.

Yeah. You have a baseline clockspeed, in my case it's 1314MHz. Then you have a boost clock, mine is showing as 1443 in GPU-Z. But the card can even go above that a bit if the temperature allows for it.

If it gets too hot (mine only hits ~70-75C at full load), it throttles down the boost clock a bit so it doesn't get too hot. You can set the desired temperature for when that should happen in Afterburner, mine is at 91C now and I'm not getting close to that even with a fairly low fan curve.

Star Citizen looks fantastic but it has aliasing issues akin to GTAIV. It's going to take more than 4K to ease out that wrinkle.

There is a link here for the lua script. You can easily find the 1st person mod using google. For "revhancer" I had to make an account on a russian website, but I could pm you a link with the archived content if you wanna use that.

Thanks for that link. Based on what I found looking for Revhance was that it just added some kind of color grading/bloom or something? Either way, I'm good without.

I think it's a fantastic contrast to see what kind of shots you make with it , the DoF blur removed and downsampling compared to the shots i've taken. :p

Well, 8xSGSSAA is less blurry simply because it takes more samples, heh.

I did try 0x004012C5. However, while it is clearer, the samples are so close together that it's like I'm using OGSSAA. See here.
It also produces a strange stippling effect that's subtle but visible in motion.

If there's an AA bit that produces a nice middle ground, I'd love to try one. As it is, given the choice between perfect anti-aliasing with some blur, and perfect clarity with leftover aliasing and artifacts, I'll choose the former every time.

As for the DX11 client, there is some hope as they are getting help with it from nVidia (I can't find the source but I know I read it somewhere, I swear), so there may be some chances of them adding TXAA and HBAO+ support. Maybe. Possibly. I can dream, dammit!
That 4xSGSSAA definitely does NOT look right.

Here's a 1920x1200 shot with 4xSGSSAA and HBAO+ that I took a few weeks ago

And another shot with just 4xSGSSAA at 768p

Make sure you aren't using the built in gamma correction as it causes AA to malfunction. (needs to be set to 50)

4xSGSAA with C5, once you get past sitting 3/4 feet from the TV/monitor the left over edges become basically a non-issue.

This is coming from my experience playing over a hundred+ hours now at 1366x768.

I generally agree on a little blur vs more aliasing. But 8xSGSSAA in FFXIV takes quite some GPU power. Plus, all of the sweetFX stuff you are adding is adding to it a little bit as well.

Here's also some further comparison

C5 4xSGSSAA http://i.minus.com/ibetRGBjg9XpeO.png
C1 8xSGSSAA http://i.minus.com/ibvi451E7f5BT7.png

I could be crazy, but is the aspect ratio correct on these? People look a bit stocky, especially on that bottom one.

It's because of the FOV of the game and the AR he's playing at.

You mean the chromatic aberration?

Ninja Theory sure know how to make very impressive faces. Too bad the rest of the game doesn't look as good. Got the game in the last sale, need to start a playthrough some day.

True, but given the large gap between releases it's a tough ask from us gamers ;)

But yes, do play through it. Really, really good game with a surprise or two :)

No downsampling, no HUD hide, no FXAA... Just showcase. And honestly I'm not impressed. HUD is awful, graphic stuck in 2002 but at least it have excellent game mechanics.

SweetFX finally works, so I can tweak. And get SSAA.
