This game has some weird as fuck post processing. It heavily impacts the image quality. Good particle effects though.

Also these are cutscenes, but Im pretty sure they are the same models.

Do these pictures remind anyone else of Half Life 2?. Not in a old game way obviously, but the characters and environment just look 'source' to me.

I don't think I've seen either of these in here yet, so I thought I'd play them just to grab a few screens. Neither one are the "prettiest" titles of all time, but...

Dying Light screens are both "Full"

Onigiri was taken while my console was still set to "Limited"

It has horrible chromatic aberration, but in a patch I believe they added an option for you to disable it.

Also I would say prerendered cutscenes don't really make sense in the thread, but real time ones are fine.

Order looks about as blurry as unity. The only game that really does kinda need a PC port to get rid of the grain and black bars.

Eh I know prerenders are a no no but the remaster does use cutscene models in game, you can probably get similar quality shots out of photo mode. I'd give him a pass on those

It really doesn't, though. The models in the cutscenes look a great deal better than anything in game. Whether it's the facial animations, the copious amount of anti-aliasing, or some other post-processing effects, it produces a much higher quality image.

I guess I'm just against the posting of anything pre-rendered whatsoever.

The models themselves are the same in-game as they are in cutscenes.

But I do agree with you. Cutscenes that aren't 1:1 with in-game visuals shouldn't be allowed in here (imo).

Then again, we allow photo-mode shots from some games that enhance the visual quality. So maybe they should be allowed as long as they're titled?

I'm sure they are the same models, but I do wonder if the textures and shaders being used are the same. Everything just looks so much better in the cutscenes in TLOU. Having them run at 1080p60 makes you almost feel like they are real-time, but sadly they aren't.

Personally, I'm fine with photo mode since it's still being rendered in real time and you generally have control over the camera. I think real-time cutscenes, like those in AC: Unity, should be fine even though they use much higher quality assets.

In the case of The Last of Us specifically, I don't really think the cutscenes look all that better. They essentially use the same assets and same image quality as the real time game (you'll still see aliasing and stuff in the pre-rendered cutscenes, for example). The lighting is better because they can control the positioning due to the directed nature of them, and probably use more lights in a given scene, but in TLOU's case the cutscenes look more or less like the game, especially in the Remastered version where the models are identical, textures and all. Photomode has only made that explicitly clear.

But I still think shots of pre-rendered cutscenes just have no place in this thread. There's nothing unique about them, they are identical for everyone playing and aren't in real time so there's nothing inherently impressive about them. And due to compression they more often actually look worse than any real-time shot.

Haha, what? Black bars, fine, but do you actually believe the soft and grainy look is caused by insufficient power? It's OBVIOUSLY a stylistic choice. The game renders 1:1 pixel-mapped to 1080p, just with the top and bottom cut off, so it could have been very sharp had they wanted it to be.

Get rid of that film grain and blur and a lot of the background elements of The Order would probably start to look extremely ugly. They definitely need to stay in.

No thats why i wrote to get rid of the grain filter......

A option on the console version to get rid of it would be great but clearly us peasants cant deal with complicated video settings.

Why do the Sunset Overdrive shots have zero aliasing?

Does it have photo mode because I cant remember the image being that clean tbh, it was quite jaggy.

There's quite a bit of aliasing in the shots that I can see. It looks good considering 900p, but it's definitely not "zero aliasing." Are you looking at the pics full size?

1366x768 laptop screen at the moment.

They do look nice though, just thought they were a bit too clean from my perspective.

Does Alien Isolation have a photo mode on X1?

There is zero aliasing in those screenshots, I played it this morning and can't remember the image being that clean.

This thread showed me that my HTC One (M7) crushes blacks.

I see plenty of jaggies. Just look at the TVs in the upper left corner.
