Unprecedented in the expression of material, in diversity as well as in fidelity to reality, TO1886 is beaten everywhere, except for the glasses where I haven't seen yet what UC4 is capable of...
Ehh, don't know about that. The food items (you see a lot of them in
Madagascar
, and the lemons early on) are really bad (low poly models with low textures), the effect of the water crashing on rocks down below is also pretty poor, and the dust mites in the first area (Spanish prison) are also pretty meh, just weird shining dots that don't look very believable.

Don't get me wrong, it's probably the best looking game I've ever played. ^^ (I have not played The Order, only seen screenshots) I think I just notice these flaws precisely because everything else is so so gorgeous, so they stand out somehow.

Materials and lighting in the home scenes are step up than the rest of the game though where it is lower in quality, since a significant portion of lighting in the home scenes are baked.

TO1886 does everything with consistency and imo it still comes out on top (overall) and is the only game apart from R&C that comes close to looking the CG.

Oh. Then I wish everybody posted their screenshots there, not here ^^

It's this way every time a new visual feast is released. When inFamous:Second Son, Driveclub and The Order 1886 came out there were pages full of nothing but screens of them. You just learn to deal with it and enjoy the eye candy that gets posted. There's also the odd game that isn't the newest eye candy that gets posted as well to break up the monotony.

I wish there were actual gameplay screenshot here and photomode shots over there. Same goes for Driveclub and other games with a specific photomode thread.
(I have no idea how to say this without sounding like a jerk - I'm not hating on the pics, I love them)

UC4 destroys TO1886 in a lot of ways. From NPC character models, to foiliage and ground/wall textures. And even with that It's hard for me to say which is better, both are amazing and have their moments of looking incredibly realistic.

I love the screenshots as well. In fact, I'm showing them off to my friends all the time. Can't wait to get my hands on the game and take a couple of my own. It's just that if anyone wants to see/post screenshots of other games, he's basically screwed. It'll pass, I guess.

There are some elements better in The Order, yes. But in terms of graphics as a whole, UC4 has a lot of interactvity, the reflections of characters are (mostly) there, the image quality is vastly superiour, it does not have black bars (thus rendering more pixels), the environments are larger etc. I think it blows the Order away when actually playing, which I never would've expected. Even the animations are much better because in UC4 they are not "set" to a specific task/contact. They are open and adjust for interactions with other characters and the environment. Seeing UC4 move is, to me, on a different level than The Order.

But there are indeed some elements in UC4 that don't look up to par. Especially the water and shadows aren't always as convincing imo. And since the game looks so great in general, it kind of becomes more apparent when something doesn't look as good.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said. I was just nitpicking a comment about materials/fidelity really.

The thing that The Order really has going for it is it's in game camera.

It actually looks like an actual camera is following you with weight and its use of motion blur and DoF. It's all very high quality.
