2016 Microsoft E3 Conference

The GTX 1070 can handle just about every game out there at 4K/30fps. It's $379. It's not crazy to think that a year and a half from now, Microsoft would be able to release a console with the same performance for $499 or less.

You say that like they can just construct the specs the night before launch. They need to start finalizing shit way before that. This won't be a 4k 60fps system at any price that consumers will want to pay, unless they are running the games on very low settings.

this is so smart and strong longer term strategy

Did they announce if Halo 5 is coming to PC?

I've honestly lost interest in Scalebound and Sea of Thieves.

We Happy Few and ReCore look great to me though. I give this a 7/10

A solid conference. The Gears 4 and FFXV demos were bland and the constant zoom outs during trailers were beyond annoying. Battlefield 1 looks the same as it did yesterday, funny....

The Scorpio reveal was great and I'm liking Scalebound and DR4. Indies look good as well. Not quite sold on Sea of Thieves yet, but slowly warming up to it. And how could I forget We Happy Few?! I give it a 7.5/10. Hire a better cameraman next time.

Rankings:
1: Microsoft (7.5/10)
2: Bethesda (5.5/10)
3: EA (2/10)

What reveal? They just talked about it and showed nothing of it

I'll give it a C.

Sea of thieves, gwent and halo wars are nice. Little reason to buy a console though with all thr emphasis on win10 though. 98% of third party will be on steam and the 2% on Microsofts proprietary store a decent compromise.

Lots of cringe, fake live gameplay, "experience" and audience plants dragged it down to a C. Mediocre 3rd person cool people talking simulators didn't help to change that.

The most exciting one was We Happy Few. That was strange and intriguing. Scalebound was the game that might have gotten me into W10 store game (1st game) but what they showed looked boring...

Recore and Horizon 3 stole the show for me.

People hated Recore? For real? This shit is singleplayer goodness.

Agreed. Those were my two favorite games of the show.

Announcing Scorpio for Holiday 2017 leaves me a bit worried. What if Neo releases this year? Will people pass on Neo and wait for Scorpio? What was presented was just an idea, not a hardware. Not even a trailer showing something only "the power of Scorpio" could do...

Well, it was a decent conference because they showed a lot of content, and then Phil masterfully spun "We're getting our asses kicked with our underpowered console, so our future now rests on global crossbuy until the console we built to be better than a PS4 shows up."

I don't see gloom and doom or ultra-hype being warranted really. It was fine, they showed a lot of games and gameplay, and the fact that a lot of it wasn't for me didn't bring me down.

Missed the first half hour, so will need to catch up on those trailers but what I saw was disappointing, hoping for something good from Sony because otherwise this is shaping up to being the worst E3 in recent memory.

I'm just speechless you guys are excited about the Scorpio announcement. It was litterly nothing. Just vapor. Just empty speech. They had shots of a 3D render of a GPU and a cooling fan and said in a year and half were going to deliver a new console that is 6 TFLOPS while having a bunch of people in low lighting talk dramatically about preserving the identity of Xbox and the community.

No price
No games
No hardware!!

You guys are drinking the Kool Aid something fierce if thats all it takes for you to get excited.

For me, it was a 5/10. It would probably be lower, but We Happy Few and the Project Scorpio raised it up to 5/10. Was Dead Rising exclusive or it's multiplatform? I missed that part.

How am I supposed to jump into this brand??

I appreciate the options but it's fundamentally damaging confusion. Why buy an Xbox any time this year?? You're releasing one that is leaps and bounds better next year that will soon make whatever I buy today obsolete. Will all future Scorpio games be downscalable to Xbox One S? Why even buy an Xbox when most of the games are going to be on Windows 10?

Help me understand

This was awesome!
Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, Scalebound, State of Decay 2 all on Xbox and PC, custom controllers, Scorpio tease. Show was pretty damn great as well.
Not to mention tons of gameplay footage.

Not sure what's so hard to understand.
Want to play now? Buy one now.
Want plug and play gaming? Get a Xbox console.
Got the cash for a beefy gaming rig and feel like playing on a more spohisticated system? Buy a PC.

It's basically PC component buying in console space.

The Xbox x Windows 10 stuff is huge for me. Used to be a huge Xbox guy but now a Playstation user instead. Can finally jump back in on some of my favourite Xbox franchises on PC.

Guys the reason is not to buy their console anymore, it's to buy into their ecosystem
Exactly. All these people saying I'll just play the games on PC, that's exactly what they want. The hardware is just an option like a Surface is an option for a Windows 10 laptop

It was a solid yet unimpressive show. I felt they spent too much time on multiplatform games that demoed badly or did not really need the amount of time that they were given (Tekken and FF). You have to expect Minecraft, but I think their first party lineup is solid. Gears, Forza, Sea of Thieves, Recore, SoD, Scalebound, HW2, not really lacking in content on that front.

6-7/10 conference. No megatons, no really big surprises, but they showed some solid gameplay. Forza, Scalebound, and Sea of Thieves look great and I'm glad that ALL of their games are making it to PC. So that's good. Oh, and We Happy Few came out of left field for me. Certainly a really interesting game.

That camera work was AWFUL though. Fire that director immediately.

Do you guys think Sony tops that conference?

Here, let me get my crystal ball.
*IF* what GopherD and Shinobi are true, then supposedly Sony's conference is going to be a repeat of the craziness of last year.

5/10

As a PC owner "Xbox" is indeed dead to me now.

I'm really amazed that they did it...opened the show with Xbox One S and ended it with Scorpio. This is extremely risky and I expect the sales for the One to even drop more now.
Who in the right mind is going to buy a slim console for 299,-€ when a new system is in the works that will cost 399-499$?

"xbox" is a service now, an app on multiple devices

Felt a bit like they are in a holding pattern for me... They have clearly moved beyond the Xbox One, and just need time to move quickly to get them through.

Some of the games looked solid, I'm buying an S for the basement and I'm definitely in for the design your own control stuff. Was thinking about a PS4 but won't bother for now.

And day one for Scorpio (which I really expect to be a PC for the TV). Full marks for Xbox Anywhere - very brave, and customer friendly. They now need to go down the Steam route with Family Sharing and bring that back (should never have been dropped). Expect Oculus or their own VR to be at next year's E3.

This generation has been a big disappointment all around. All three consoles weren't good enough to last, and it's showing.

Oh, and this also showed why I don't care for Japanese games anymore all of those shown just look ridiculously unappealing to me (FF15, Scalebound, Tekken)

5/10.

A lot of their big hitters looked incredibly rough. In fact, it's probably due to devs switching to scorpio development. Scalebound looked shite, Gears was gears, etc. a real by the numbers conference.

Scorpio looks amazing on paper, but they announced a new console WITHOUT ANY GAMES! Clearly a desperate move by MS. They really think the most powerful console will just wipe the floor because of 6TF. MS never learn. Show me the games MS. Make me a believer.

Agree 100% I gave it a 5/10, too. Only the Scorpio announcement was interesting.
